Hyderabad, January 22: E Srinivasan Lakshmi Narasimhan was on Friday sworn-in as the full-time Governor of Andhra Pradesh.

He was administered the oath of office by AP High Court Chief Justice A Ramesh Dave at a brief function in the Raj Bhavan at 9.45 am this morning.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah, his Cabinet colleagues, state Chief Secretary S V Prasad and others attended the function.

The Chief Secretary read out the warrant of appointment of Narasimhan following which the High Court Chief Justice administered the oath.

Hyderabad, January 22: BJP State president B Dattatreya demanded that the Congress leadership should shed its `silence’ at least now and spell out its stand on Telangana.

Addressing a press conference at the part y headquarters here today, he blamed the Congress leadership for the spate of suicides in Telangana region.

Nagpur, January 21: Normal life was paralysed on Wednesday following the Vidarbha bandh (shutdown) called by organisations demanding a separate state of Vidarbha.

Agitators took to the streets defying prohibitory orders. More than 200 people – including 55 in Nagpur – were detained for violating the orders.

Four pro-Vidarbha youths tried to climb up a BSNL communication tower but were forced to come down by the police.

Hyderabad, January 21: Congress MLAs and MLCs from Andhra and Rayalaseema have decided not to join the proposed joint action committee to spearhead the Samaikyandhra movement.

At the same time, they have decided to work with other political parties of the region on specific matters.

About 30 MLAs and MLCs met in the Assembly Committee Hall today to discuss their future course of action.

New Delhi, January 21: As the Telangana agitators hit the road in Hyderabad once again and a student allegedly committed suicide for the cause, the separate statehood issue was back to haunt the Congress leadership in New Delhi.

To put pressure on the Central Government and the Congress party, the MPs from the region are expected to land here on Thursday. “The MLAs and MLCs are coming the following day,” sources in the party said.

Visakhapatnam, January 19: Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration Minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy unveiled the statue of former late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy near Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC) office.

Speaking on the occasion yesterday, Mr Ramnarayan expressed that YSR was one of the most loved chief minister of the state. He said, YSR, who was also known as ‘people’s leader’ brought awareness among the rural masses and started various social tribal welfare programmes.

He was one of committed and sincere leaders, said the minister.

Warangal, January 19: It was a 24-hour-long rescue operation that lakhs of people watched live on television, praying for its success. At stake was the life of twoyear- old Mahesh who fell into an open borewell while playing at Chandru thanda in Torrur mandal, Warangal district on Sunday evening.

Officials pooled in men and machinery from near and afar. In the end, rescue teams fished out the toddler’s body after a herculean effort this evening.

Hyderabd, January 19: All efforts went in vain to rescue a two-year-old toddler a day after he fell into 35-feet deep borewell at a hamlet in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh.

After 24 hours of effort, the rescuers found the child dead, dashing the hopes of his parents and people across the state who were praying for his safety.

Police said the rescue team found Dharavath Mahesh dead after digging a parallel pit and a hole to the borewell.

Hyderabad, January 18: An eight-member delegation of Bhutan Health Ministry led by the country’s Health Minister Lyonpo Zangley Dupka called on Chief Minister K Rosaiah today. The team was visiting the State to study the innovative health scheme Arogyasri and 108 and 104 services.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister said that nearly seven crore people of the State were being benefited by these services. About eight to nine States in the country were trying to replicate them, he said.

Warangal, January 18: “Government has made all the arrangements for the convenience of devotees for the coming Medaram Jatara,’’ said Ministers Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Ramreddy Venkat Reddy.

The ministers today visited Medaram and inspected various facilities, including bathing ghats on Jampannavagu, internal roads, queue lines and drinking water facilities.

Later they reviewed the arrangements with the officials at the Government guest house here.

Hyderabad, January 18: The pedagogic practices in teaching science subjects need a complete revamp in order to boost the scientific temper amongst the present generation of students, Dr Qazi Azher Siraj, an Indian scientist working in the United State of America, opined.

Interacting with students at a seminar organised by the Jana Vignana Vedika at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram on ‘how to formulate a science project’ here today, he advised students and teachers to focus on methodology rather than formulas in science and mathematics.

Hyderabad, January 18: Efforts are on to rescue a two-year-old toddler, a day after he fell into a 35-feet deep borewell at a hamlet in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh, authorities said Monday.

Dharavath Mahesh fell into the borewell at Chandrutanta hamlet in Polepally village of the district, about 90 km from Warangal town, Sunday evening.
A team from Singareni Collieries has joined police and fire services personnel in the rescue operation, being supervised by District Superintendent of Police Shahnawaz Qasim and District Collector N. Sridhar.

Hyderabad, January 18: In view of the increase in traffic on the outskirts of the city, Cyberabad police have extended the restrictions on the plying of heavy goods vehicles like lorries, lorry trollies, tippers, concrete mixtures lorries and containers on the roads from Miyapur to Godrej, Godrej to Erragadda, Godrej to Ferozguda, Bahadurpally to Narsapur junction.

The plying of these vehicles would now be restricted between 8 am to 11 am and between 5 pm and 10:30 pm, Cyberabad Police Commissioner S Prabhakar Reddy said in a notification on Sunday.

A high-capacity excavator has been arranged to carry on the operation being carried out in flood lights till reports last came in.

Hyderabad, January 18: Twelve-year-old N Nichiketan did not know what was in store for him when his father asked him not to accompany him to Sabarimala. The boy did not heed his father’s advice and accompanied him on the pilgrimage for darshan of Lord Ayyappa. He did not return home. He was one of the five persons from the city who lost their lives in a ghastly road accident at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Sunday.

Hyderabad, January 17: A toddler fell into an open borewell pit in a hamlet in Warangal district this evening, police said here.

The one-and-half-year-old boy, identified as Darawath Prasad, accidentally fell into the open borewell in an agriculture field in Thorrur mandal at about 4.30 pm while playing, they said, adding he was believed to be trapped at a depth of 30-feet.

Hyderabad, January 16: Hyderabad police have booked Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao’s daughter K. Kavita for making a provocative statement against the screening of the Telugu film “Adurs.”

Kavita, president of the Telangana Jana Jagruthi, the cultural arm of the TRS, Jan 12 called upon the people to stall the film in Telangana on the grounds that its producers were opposed to the demand for a separate Telangana region.

Banjara Hills police station booked suo moto cases against her for making a provocative statement and for criminal intimidation.

New Delhi,January 16: A high-level meeting of the Congress and the government this evening deliberated on the Telangana issue amid indications that a decision on the mechanism would be taken by January 28, a deadline set by proponents of the separate state.

The meeting of the Congress Core Group chaired by party chief Sonia Gandhi and attended by prime minister Manmohan Singh discussed in detail the law and order situation in Andhra Pradesh.

Hyderabad, January 14: In the wake of apprehensions over the fate of non-Telanganites living in Hyderabad after formation of Telangana state, Health Minister D Nagender announced here today that a peace rally would be organised to express solidarity with and assure safety to all residents of the State capital, especially non-locals. An all-party meeting will be conducted soon to discuss the arrangements for the rally.

Hyderabad, January 14: Adurs, a film starring NTR Jr, was released in the city today without musch stiff resistance from Telangana activists.

Screening of the film became an uncertainty in the wake of a threat issued by Telangana Jagruti, the cultural wing of the TRS led by KCR’s daughter Kavitha, that it would obstruct the film’s screening.

Hyderabad, January 14: Apprehending that they are being `cornered’ by the TDP and the TRS on the resignations issue, the Telangana Congress MLAs are planning to float a separate forum for T cause. They intend to place their proposal before the Telangana JAC.

Sangareddy, January 14: Balladeer Gadar urged MLAs and MPs who had submitted their resignation seeking carving of separate Telangana State not to withdraw their resignations until separate Telangana State was carved.
