Vijayawada, February 08: The bandh call given by Joint Action Committee (JAC) of students for Unified Andhra Pradesh for closure of all educational institutions in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions evoked partial response in Krishna district today.
The students of JAC had given the bandh call yesterday in protest against the midnight’s preventive arrest of 28 students in a driving school near Nandigama in this district while they were on a ‘Padayatra’.
Vijayawada, February 08: The First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate today remanded Venkata Rao Goud, accused of kidnapping and killing a ten-year-old girl, Naga Vaishnavi, and her car driver Lakshman Rao on January 30, to judicial custoday till February 22.
Rao was produced at the residence of the Magistrate M Satyanarayana by the Vijayawada Police this morning amidst tight security.
Though large number of mediapersons were present there, they were not allowed to take photograph of the accused.
It was not clear yet when and where Venkata Rao Goud was arrested.
Tirupati, February 08: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Samaikya Andhra (SA) Medical today demanded Indian Medical Association (IMA) to take stern action against doctors who said they will not treat Samaikya Andhra supporters as part of their Telangana agitation. Addressing a press conference, JAC convener and Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) leader Dr C Subramnyam and Co-convener Dr K Sreedhar said it was unfortunate that some of the responsible doctors hailing from Telangana, stated that they would not treat Andhra people.
Hyderabad, February 07: A veterina ry assistant surgeon in Karimnagar was caught with disproportionate assets worth more than Rs two crore by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials today.
ACB officials conducted searches on the residence of Dr Y Jayaramulu, veterinary assistant surgeon, Ramavaram in Husnabad mandal in Karimnagar, today. Simultaneous searches were conducted on the house of his friend, G Venkatesham at Karimnagar, and also on the doctor’s office at Ramavaram and poultry farm owned by him at Karimnagar.

Uppalapadu, February 06: Vaaka Adi Reddy (26), a student from Andhra Pradesh studying MS at the University of Oklahoma, USA, was shot at from a close range by unidentified persons on Thursday .
A native of Uppalapadu, Prakasam district, Reddy was working in a provisional store as a part-time employee. The attack took place while he was in the store. He was rushed to the Oklahoma University Hospital, where he was operated upon .
Vijayawada, February 05: Madhulatha fought back tears, skipping roll no: 23 while taking attendance of her Class IV students at the NSM school here on Thursday.
The number was that of Naga Vaishnavi who was kidnapped and murdered last Saturday.
The silence in the classroom was deafening. Neither the teacher nor the students spoke for the first few minutes, acutely conscious as they were of Vaishnavi’s gruesome murder.
Vijayawada, February 05: Six days after the kidnap and murder of schoolgirl Vaishnavi, the Vijayawada police arrested two persons in connection with the case.
The accused were identified as Morla Srinivas (38) and Vemparala Jagadish (26) of Guntur district and cases were registered against them under Ssections 302, 363, 364, 201, 120 (B), r/w 34 under IPC and crime no. 56/10 against them in Satyanarayanapuram police station.
Tirumala, February 05: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) started the process of appraisal of Lord Venkateswara’s jewellery by thirdparty experts at Srivari temple here today.
A four-member team from the gemology laboratory of the Mumbai mint along with a 12-member verification committee including TTD officials participated in a scientific grading and valuation of the antique jewellery of the temple for which a makeshift gemology laboratory was set up inside the temple.
The devasthanam has procured the necessary equipment as per the recommendation of the Mumbai mint.

S Bhanu Prakash, chest specialist at the Help Hospital where Prabhakar Rao was admitted, said, ‘‘as soon as he was brought here on Monday night, we had to fix artificial respiration to restore his heart beat.

Vijayawada, February 02: Unable to bear the shock of the gruesome murder of his 10-year-old daughter two days after she was kidnapped, a top Andhra Pradesh businessman died of a cardiac arrest Tuesday morning.
Palagani Prabhakara Rao, who was in the liquor, real estate and finance business and was a leader of a backward class organisation, collapsed in Vijayawada Monday evening after hearing the news of his daughter’s killing. Doctors said he had two cardiac arrests and died at a private hospital Tuesday morning.
Vijayawada, February 02: Father of the nine-year-old girl, who was kidnapped here and found dead at Guntur, died today due to cardiac arrest, authorities said.
Prabhakar Rao fell unconscious after he learnt of his daughter Vyshnavi’s death and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the city yesterday.
He died this morning due to cardiac arrest, hospital authorities added.
A large number of political leaders, including Chief Minister K Rosaiah, TDP President Chandrababu Naidu, will be attending his funeral, which would take place this evening.
Guntur, February 02: In what has come as a rude shock to her family members, the charred body of eight-year-old Naga Vaishnavi, who was kidnapped 60 hours ago from Vijayawada, was found in a boiler at a Nuts and Bolts Manufacturing Unit -Sarada Industries – in Auto Nagar here on Monday.
The most disconcerting aspect of the brutal murder was that it was allegedly masterminded by Vaishnavi’s father Prabhakar Rao’s first wife Venkatramanamma’s nephew Srinivas Rao who owns the Sarada Industries.
New delhi,February 02 :The Home Minister said the government was on the job of drafting the Terms and Reference of the Committee and would announce it. “Terms and reference can’t be kept in secret. When we will draft it, we will announce and circulate it”, he said.
Last week, Chidambaram had said the Committee to examine the demand for separate Telangana will be announced this week.
Hyderabad, February 01: Congress leaders from Telangana region would on Monday discuss the party’s directive that they should “withdraw” from the all-party Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC).
The matter would be discussed at a meeting of the leaders from Telangana, Congress MLA B Saraiah told reporters on Sunday night.
He said the JAC was formed at the residence of senior MLA and former minister K Jana Reddy and that it never acted against the party.
Another senior leader and former minister T Jeevan Reddy said formation of Telangana state would solve all problems.
Hyderabad, February 01: In yet another boat tragedy, 11 people were feared drowned as a country-made boat capsized in Tandava reservoir in Andhra Pradesh today.
This was the second boat mishap after yesterday’s incident, which claimed 11 lives in West Godavari district in the state.
The mishap occurred when 14 villagers of Ammapeta in Golugonda mandal in Visakhapatnam district were returning in a boat after worshipping a local deity on a hillock, Visakhapatnam Rural Superintendent of Police Vineet Brijlal, who visited the spot, told PTI over phone.
New Delhi, February 01: Grappling with the ticklish Telangana issue, Congress today indicated that the much-talked about mechanism on it was unlikely to be formed soon and asked partymen to withdraw from the Joint Action Committee agitating for statehoood, warning them of stern action for indiscipline.
Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily said the Centre was seized of the matter on the formation of a committee or mechanism to look into all issues and concerns of all regions in Andhra Pradesh.

Warrangal, January 31: Over 60 lakh pilgrims worshipped deities Sammakka and Saralamma at Medaram till the third day of the Jatara today.
While 5 lakh pilgrims travelled by RTC buses to the Jatara, the others came by private vehicles. The Jatara will conclude on Saturday with the tribal priests taking back Sammakka to the forest. District Collector N Sridhar has directed the officials to camp at Medaram till the festival concluded.
The Collector and Superintendent of Police Shahnawaz Qasim were personally monitoring the arrangements.
Narsapur, January 31: An early morning boat journey by villagers going for a holy dip in the Godavari turned tragic after the boat capsized drowning 12 persons at Biyyaputippa village of Narsapur mandal in West Godavari district Saturday.
