Child born with heart outside body dies

Hyderabad, May 06: A child born with his heart outside his body in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district died at a hospital here Thursday, less than 24 hours after birth.

The baby boy whose heart was atop his chest died a few hours after he was shifted to Care Hospital here for corrective surgery.

Doctors said the child born with Ectopia Cordis, a condition where the heart develops outside the body. A team of doctors was preparing for the corrective surgery when he succumbed to his rare condition.

Hyderabad to host WTDC-10

Hyderabad, May 05: The fifth World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-10) will be held here from May 24 to June 4.

The objective of holding the WTDC-10 in Hyderabad International Convention Centre(HICC) was to identify priorities for the development of telecommunications and information and communication technologies (ICTs), taking into account contributions made by Member States and Sector Members, according to a press release here.

AP CM Rosaiah inaugurates Brandix India Apparel City

Visakhapatnam, May 04: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah inaugurated the Brandix India Apparel City and urged the company to provide the jobs they promised to the people.

Promoted by Sri Lankan textile major Brandix, the Apparel City is at Achyutapuram, 50 kms from here. It is spread over 1000 acres in a Special Economic Zone and is expected to attract an investment of Rs 4,500 crore in the next few years.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister told the company management to provide employment in the textile units to locals whose lands were acquired for the Apparel City.

AP cannot take unilateral decision on Telangana issue: Rosaiah

Chennai, May 03: The Andhra Pradesh Government could not take any unilateral decision on the Telangana issue, Chief Minister K Rosaiah said today.

In a brief chat with reporters at the airport here on his arrival from Nellore en route to Visakhapatnam, he said the Centre had constituted a committee.

”The committee is seized of the issue and it will submit its report to the Central Government,” he said.

4 education Bills to be tabled in parliament

Banglore, May 02: Union Minister for Human Resources Development, Kapil Sibal, said four bills related to education would be tabled in the parliament on Monday.

He was speaking after opening the new campus of National Assessment and Accreditation Council on Saturday.

The four bills are: Foreign Education Providers Bill; Prohibition of Unfair Practices in Technical, Medical Educational Institutions and Universities Bill; Educational Tribunals Bill; National Accreditation Regulatory Authority for Higher Educational Institutions Bill.

Tainted NIT Director gets back to work

Hyderabad, May 02: Tainted Director of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) YV Rao is at it again. The man, who had been sent on a long leave after students virtually necked him out for his alleged corrupt practices, was back in office.

Sources in NIT told Express that to the surprise of everyone on the campus, including senior faculty members, YV Rao walked into the Director’s chamber and occupied the chair around 12 noon on Saturday, a holiday.

HC quashes complaint against Chamundi

Hyderabad, April 30: Justice Tamada Gopalakrishna of the AP High Court on Thursday quashed a complaint against Chamundeshwarinath, a former functionary of the Andhra Cricket Association. The petitioner questioned the lodging of a criminal complaint against him charging him of forgery and manipulating the bylaws of the Andhra Cricket Association.

State looking to N-power industry

Hyderabad, April 30: In view of the acute shortage of power faced by industries, the State Government was keen on seeing a couple of nuclear plants coming up, Chief Minister K Rosaiah said here today, and added that he was sure the response from the Department of Atomic Energy would be positive.

Elaborating, he said the Atomic Minerals Directorate had prospected for uranium in the Kadapa Basin and there were indications of a 160-km-long uranium mineralisation belt.

4 types of laparoscopy out of Arogyasri

Hyderabad, April 30: The State Government has decided to suspend four types of laparoscopic procedures from the Arogyasri scheme since they were much vulnerable for malpractices.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the Arogyasri Trust Board Meeting.

JAC appeals to TD, Cong not to contest bypolls

Hyderabad, April 30: The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) today appealed to Congress and the TDP not to contest the ensuing bypolls in Telangana region to pave way for re-election of those who resigned for the Telangana cause.

The MLAs had quit for the sake of Telangana.

If a contest is forced, it amounts to dividing the people of Telangana. So we appeal to the parties not to contest the bypolls, JAC chairman Kodandaram told reporters.

Engineering students design ‘foolproof’ EVM

Machlipatnam, April 30: A group of students from DMS SVH College of Engineering, Machilipatnam designed a foolproof electronic voting machine with provision for biometric and photo identity system to prevent bogus voting.

The new machine will also help transmitting the data immediately to the State and Central Election Commissions through GSM transmission system.

Demonstrating its functioning here today, the students said that they had thought of designing the new electronic voting machine, which is useful for public in place of the existing electronic voting machines.

London, April 28: Suntanned women and girls who are like ‘walking mannequins’ will be arrested in Iran, Tehran’s police chief has warned.

The warning comes close on the heels of a hardline Iranian cleric claiming that immodestly dressed women disturbed young men and caused earthquakes.

‘The public expects us to act firmly and swiftly if we see any social misbehaviour by women, and men, who defy our Islamic values. In some areas of north Tehran we can see many suntanned women and young girls who look like walking mannequins.

Cops raid businessman’s birthday bash venue

Hyderabad, April 26: Police raided a function hall on the outskirts of the city where a birthday bash was organised by a businessman late last night and arrested 10 bar dancers from Mumbai who were indulging in obscene dances. To top it, the birthday boy suffered fractures as he jumped over the compound wall in a bid to escape from the police.

The businessman from Koti, Ajay Agarwal, who entered into the 40s, threw a party at Raghavendra Function Hall at Shamshabad. He hired bar dancers from Mumbai through some DJs to entertain the guests.

‘Nano materials will play key role’

Hyderabad, April 26: Nano materials may soon play a key role in medical science to cure some of the deadly diseases, speakers at a symposium here today said.

Speaking at the inaugural of a twoday symposium on `Trends in Molecules and Cellular Applications of Nano-Sciences’, held at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in collaboration with Deakin University of Australia.

Five of a family die in road mishap

Eluru, April 26: Five members of a family were killed and four others injured in a ghastly mishap on the bypass road near Duggirala village this morning.

The accident occurred when the cement-laden lorry in which they were travelling overturned after ramming into a divider. Belonging to Kothapalli village of Sankhavaram mandal in East Godavari district, the deceased have been identified as P Chinna Appa Rao, P Gogulamma, P Jyothi, P Chinnari and P Rajesh.
