Vijayawada, June 14: Notwithstanding the weightage given to the Intermediate marks while awarding the ranks in Eamcet, the medical council of India (MCI) has set 50 per cent marks in both the examinations as minimum qualifying marks for admission into the medical colleges. As per the latest directive from MCI, the student should have secured marks not below than 50 per cent in Intermediate and also in Eamcet to get an admission into the medical stream through any route.

Though the rule was implemented last year too, ambiguity arose among the students

New Delhi, June 13: India has appreciated the steps Australia has taken for the safety of Indian students, some of whom have faced allegedly racist attacks, even as it released a list of do’s and don’ts for Indians studying in that country. “We hope that the Australian government will succeed to stop the attacks. It is a terrible thing that the attacks are continuing,” Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon told reporters here on Friday.

He signaled appreciation for the efforts of the Australian government and said that New Delhi and Canberra were in touch during the crisis.

New Delhi, June 13: The National Capital Territory of Delhi is all set to modernise Madarsas to promote education among the Muslims. The Directorate of Education (welfare branch) under the local Government today invited proposals from the Islamic seminaries for their modernisation.

The scheme known as ‘programme for the modernisation of Madarsas’ is full financial backing of the union Human Resources Development ministry. According to the sources in the HRD ministry the scheme is a pilot project in Delhi and after response from here it would be implemented across the country.

Mumbai, June 13: Every one at Bombay Scottish School, Mahim, was surprised when Prerna Khullar, who was expected to top the school at the ICSE, scored a dismal 60% in mathematics, despite scoring 95% and above in every other subject. Their doubts weren’t misplaced.

Kolkata, June 12: Fifty-five children were treated for shock and nausea in a children’s care centre in Birbhum district of West Bengal on Friday after they found a dead snake in their mid-day meal.

The food was prepared at the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) centre in Kabirajpara near Rampurhat. Hospital superintendent Himadri Halder said no symptoms of food poisoning had been found so far.

Ahmedabad, June 08: The state education department seemed to be luring toppers to take up civil services as a career option. Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) on Sunday organised felicitation function for class X and calss XII state toppers of 2008 and 2009. There were close to 200 students who made it to the toppers’ list and were given certificates by the board.

Aligarh: The Governor of West Bengal, Mr. Gopalkrishna Gandhi today urged the Aligarh Muslim University to play an important role in ‘exploring the deprived sections of society including women who suffered from lack of education’.

Chennai, June 08: Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital, one of the two Chennai-based institutions found charging illegal donations by a TOI-Times Now investigation, began offering the MBBS course in 2002, the same year that it received `deemed university’ status. Using the autonomy, the college designed its own courses, syllabus and teaching methodologies. Five years later, it awarded degrees to doctors under its own name.

Chandigarh, June 06: Soon close circuit television (CCTV) cameras might be noticed in the classrooms of government schools as the UT education department is working on a project under which cameras would be installed in and outside the classrooms to promote better administration.

When contacted, DPI (schools) Samwartak Singh said, ‘’The entire project will depend on requirements of the schools concerned. The cameras will be installed basically to keep an eye on the administration.’’

Chennai, June 06: Even as questions swirl over the impunity with which private medical colleges are charging illegal donations despite an explicit Supreme Court ban, it now appears members of the apex regulatory body — the Medical Council of India (MCI) — themselves have strong links with the offending institutions.

Hyderabad, June 05: There is not just life after an acid attack, there is even achievement. That is what Pranita, a 22-year-old who suffered an acid attack in December has shown.

Showing exceptional courage, Pranitha passed her final year BTech exams with distinction scoring 82 per cent.

“I was not in a position to even hold or open the books. My father would arrange a table, open the book, flip the page and I would just read with my eyes,” Pranitha said.

Her achievement has brought a smile back on her mother’s face.

New Delhi, June 04: A total of 28 students of MCA at Desh Bhagat institute were selected for their six-month summer training at Sebiz Infotech Ltd, Mohali.

The students were selected after a round of interviews, group discussion and one-to-one sessions. The selection process was held at Desh Bhagat Institute of Management and Computer Sciences, Mandi Gobindgarh.

Kolkata, June 04: Mohammad Asif Iqbal, 30, went door-to-door to enlist in a private tutorial before appearing in a management entrance exam, but was refused every time. Reason: he was visually impaired. But Iqbal finally cracked the entrance test on his own.

Iqbal, now working as a senior consultant in an MNC firm after passing out from a prominent private MBA institute in Pune, is not the only one who succeeded. There are many who rose above the social impediment and succeeded in different walks of life.

Chennai, June 03: Less than a week after the Tamil Nadu government claimed to have put in place a system to curb collection of capitation fees by private medical colleges, a investigation has caught on camera officials of two leading medical colleges demanding Rs 20 lakh to Rs 40 lakh for an MBBS seat.

New Delhi, June 3:Concerned over racial attacks on Indian students in Australia, the Centre would collect the details of students going abroad for education, Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said.

Based on the information gathered, a data bank of Non-Resident students along with other NRIs would be set up, Ravi told reporters at Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.

It has also come to the Centre’s notice that some ‘illegal groups’ sending students abroad for education were operating in South India like the fake job recruitment agents, Ravi said.

Foreign minister S M Krishna reminded Australia about its responsibility to ensure the well-being and security of Indian students studying in that country.

“I have been appalled at the attack on our students in Melbourne,” Krishna said in a statement here while commenting on the assault on four Indian students, one of whom is battling for life in a hospital there.

Mumbai,May 27: It’s an irony of sorts that, while the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) pass percentage for the Chennai region – which includes Mumbai has been inching upwards over the last three years, the pass percentage for Maharashtra is marginally lower than what it was in earlier years.

The CBSE Board announced its results for the Class X board examinations in three regions, Chennai, Ajmer and Panchkula, on Tuesday.

New Delhi, May 26: The Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) will declare the results of Class X for Ajmer, Chennai and Panchkula regions on Tuesday.

However, the results of other regions and Delhi will be announced by the end of this month.

The results will be put up on the website www.cbse.nic.in and www.cbse.results.nic.in .

The schools can also get results by giving their school code and email-id by registering themselves. Students can get their results on their e-mail address by registering themselves on the web sites: www.results.nic.in.

Hyderabad, May 26: Students from the State put up a spectacular show in the Indian Institutes of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) for which results were declared on Monday. The State bagged two of the top 10 all India ranks, with Gopi Shivkanth and M Pranay Kumar securing third and eighth ranks respectively.

Hyderabad, May 25: The much-awaited results of the Joint Entrance Examinations for admission into various Indian Institutes of Technology and other allied institutes would be announced on May 25.

Counselling for the candidates would commence from June 13 and the final allotment of seats and courses would be made by June 24, according to JEE officials.

Compared to last year, the competition for the seats has increased dramatically despite the introduction of two new IITs at Indore and Himachal Pradesh. “The students-seats ratio has increased from 44:1 to 49:1.

Columbia, May 23: People seeking jobs are more likely to succeed if they have English names, according to a Canadian study, which suggests that immigrants from India, Pakistan or China face discrimination by employers.

The new University of British Columbia study, which sent thousands of resumes to Canadian employers, found those with English names like Jill Wilson or John Martin received interview callbacks 40 per cent more often than identical resumes with names like Rajan Pillai, Sana Khan or Lei Li.
