Bombay Scottish girl’s maths marks go from 60 to 98 on re-count

Mumbai, June 13: Every one at Bombay Scottish School, Mahim, was surprised when Prerna Khullar, who was expected to top the school at the ICSE, scored a dismal 60% in mathematics, despite scoring 95% and above in every other subject. Their doubts weren’t misplaced.

Her papers were given for re-evaluation by the school. On Friday, Prerna’s parents were informed by the school that she scored a whopping 98% in math. The additional 30 marks push up her average to 98.2% (English plus best four subjects). Not only does this make her the school topper, but it also means that she has scored a mere 0.8% less than the all-India ICSE topper.

The school received a verbal confirmation on Prerna’s marks from the ICSE board, says a teacher from the school, adding that her marksheet would arrive shortly.

“I am so excited about this! I’m on top of the world!” gushed Pankaj Khullar, Prerna’s father. “I was shocked when I found that my daughter had such low marks in mathematics. I knew those were not her marks,” said her father, who is yet to come to terms with the good news.

Prerna, who is currently in Kota, preparing for the joint entrance examination at a well-known coaching class, will be in the city on June 26, to attend a function, at which she will be felicitated for topping her school.
