AP acid attack victim obtains distinction

Hyderabad, June 05: There is not just life after an acid attack, there is even achievement. That is what Pranita, a 22-year-old who suffered an acid attack in December has shown.

Showing exceptional courage, Pranitha passed her final year BTech exams with distinction scoring 82 per cent.

“I was not in a position to even hold or open the books. My father would arrange a table, open the book, flip the page and I would just read with my eyes,” Pranitha said.

Her achievement has brought a smile back on her mother’s face.

“Today we are happy but what we lived through, nobody can or should live through. We have lived through hell,” her mother Subhashini said.

Pranita and her friend Swapnika were both final year BTech students of Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Science (KITS).

They were attacked with acid by three young men in Warangal town, about 140 km from Hyderabad. Swapnika suffered over 50 per cent burns and fought for three weeks before her end came. But Pranitha kept on fighting.

“I am placed in Infosys. I got the call letter in January. I will join and later prepare for civil services exam,” she said.

Pranita has already undergone multiple surgeries, but the doctors say her ordeal is far from over as she will have to undergo a few more surgeries to reconstruct her face.
