Hyderabad, August 30: The Prof. G. Ram Reddy Centre for Distance Education, Osmania University, has invited applications for admission to Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A) and Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics from candidates without entrance test across the country.

Counseling for engineering stream begins

Hyderabad, August 30: Counseling for engineering aspirant students began on Sunday with the verification of certificates at 61 helpline centres set up across the state.

According to sources, the certificates of special category students like physically handicapped, NCC, Children of Armed Personnel and Sports would be verified on Sunday and Monday.

The verification of certificates of general category students would begin on August 31. The optional subjects of candidates would be verified from September 2.

Job quota for backward Muslims in Bengal by September-end

West Bengal, August 30: Nearly 1.4 crore backward Muslims in West Bengal would be issued OBC certificates under a reservation policy for poor people of the community after the state Cabinet approves the decision on September 22. This will be in keeping with Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s promise in February this year that the step will be taken before year-end.

ICET counselling for minority candidates from today

Hyderabad, August 23: The online counseling for ICET-2010 qualified minority candidates for admission into MBA and MCA courses of Muslim, Christian, Sikh and Linguistic minority colleges will start from tomorrow (August 23).

The counseling for 65 MBA and MCA minority colleges that are part of Single Window-II will be held simultaneously in Hyderabad, Kadapa, Vijayawada and Nellore. Counselling in Hyderabad will be held at AP Veterinary Association hall, Shantinagar.

Decision on web based EAMCET counseling Today

Hyderabad, August 23: The state government will make a announcement on Monday regarding the web-based counseling for Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test-2010 (EAMCET-2010), stated Technical Education Commissioner K Lakshminarayana.

Speaking to media persons on Sunday, Mr Lakshminarayan said the government has decided to conduct counseling for EAMCET candidates from August 29.

The government will announce the dates for verification of certificates and option for students and other related issues in the web-based counseling on Monday, he stated.

IGNOU launches PC hardware course

New Delhi, August 22: A certificate course in PC Hardware and Networking was launched in association with HCL Infosystems Ltd at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

“It is a state-of-the-art industry ready course created jointly by IGNOU and HCL. This programme is to be offered in Instructor Led Teaching (ILT) mode,” IGNOU chief public relations officer Ravi Mohan said.

The programme will be delivered in separate batches at Computer Division, IGNOU Main Campus as well as HCL Career Development Centre in Noida with the first batch commencing from Sep 15, he said.

Computer education compulsory in Haryana

Haryana, August 22: Computer education has been made compulsory by the Haryana government in all its colleges from this year.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Cooperatives Sukhbir Singh Kataria said in a statement that modern computer labs are being set up in every government college in the state.

A government spokesman said that as per the decision, students of B.A., B.Com, M.Com and BBA will also have to acquire knowledge of computers for attaining a degree.

Haryana has over 650 colleges and eight universities, including an all-women university near Sonipat.

New Delhi, August 22: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Sunday launched a certificate course in PC Hardware and Networking in association with HCL Infosystems Ltd, an official said.

Prof S M Rashid new Pro-VC of Jamia

New Delhi, August 16: Jamia Milia Islamia has appointed Prof S M Rashid, an expert in the field of remote-sensing, as its new Pro Vice-Chancellor.

Rashid, who is a Professor at the Department of Geography at the prestigious university and has been associated with the institution for 50 years both as a student and teacher, took charge on Friday, Jamia said in a statement.

Rashid, who has held other administrative positions in the university, was serving as the Dean of Faculty of Natural Sciences before taking up the new assignment.

Mumbai, August 16: The state government is readyto implement the fee hike policy formulated a month ago. After a new government resolution (GR) was passed on July 15 and a subsequent court hearing, the authorities had announced that it would be implemented from August 15.

From Monday, school managements will be unable to introduce a random fee hike, without the approval of the school management committees or parent-teacher associations. Also, schools will now be compelled to set up a website with vital information, such as their balance sheet.

Teacher slaps kindergarten student

Hyderabad, August 14: Close on the heels of a headmistress of a government school inflicting burns with a firewood on 12 students in Jamandlapalli village of Mahabubabad mandal in Warangal district, a teacher of a private school in the city allegedly slapped a two-and-half-year old student resulting in injuries on the girl’s face.

Though the incident took place yesterday, the parents of the child lodged a complaint with the police today against the teacher.

Cheaper and Quicker UK Visas for Indian

London, August 13: British Prime Minister David Cameron on Thursday promised to make the system of issuing visas to Indians quicker and cheaper.

Counselling dates for ICET, EAMCET announced

Hyderabad, August 11: State Higher Education Council Chairman Prof K C Reddy on Wednesday stated the counselling for Integrated Common Entrance Test candidates will begin on August 19.

Talking to media persons, Prof Reddy said the counselling, which was scheduled to begin on July 19, was postponed due to some unavoidable circumstances.

The Prof said that the going might get tough for ICET students since more than 1,50,000 students have cleared the qualifying examinations.

Change in all-India bar exam pattern sought

Hyderabad, August 10: The pattern of all-India Bar examination scheduled to be held on December 5 may be changed. A meeting of 16 of the 19 state bar councils in Hyderabad passed a resolution opposing the current pattern of the exam and made several suggestions to the Bar Council of India.

In the present scheme, whoever has passed LL B in 2010 can appear for the All- India Bar exam, paying a fee of `1,300, six months after enrolling themselves in the state Bar Council. They will be allowed to practise only after clearing the exam.

Anti-ragging campaign on bus in Delhi University

Goa university to have chair for diaspora studies

Panaji, August 10: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has agreed to create a chair for diaspora studies at the Goa university, Goa non-resident Indian (NRI) commissioner Eduardo Faleiro said Tuesday.

He said at a press conference here that the university had been asked to draft a proposal for creating a diaspora studies chair and send it to the UGC to expedite the process.

Board to regulate madrassa education planned

Lucknow, August 09: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is all set to create its independent education board to institutionalize and modernize madrassa education in the country.

Lucknow’s Naib Imam and prominent member of AIMPLB national executive Maulana Khalid Rasheed told IANS here Monday: “The new board would be set up on the pattern of CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) and ICSE (Indian Council of Secondary Education), with a view to promote literacy among Muslims.”

‘HRD Ministry to get Rs 2.31 lakh crore over 3 years’

Kolkata, August 08: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said the Human Resource Development ministry would be allocated Rs 2.31 lakh crore over the next three years to set up infrastructure for implementing the Right to Education.

“The HRD minister has said that Rs 2,31,000 crore will be required for implementing RTE in the next three years for setting up schools, appointment of teachers and building of infrastructure. I said that the money will be provided,” Mukherjee said at a seminar here.

Muslim organisations planning to set up education board

Lucknow, August 08: In a bid to improve the standard of education and to provide better educational opportunities to their youth, Muslim organisations in the country have taken an initiative to set up a separate board on the lines on ISC and CBSE.

“It has been decided to set up a Muslim Education Board on the lines of ISC and CBSE boards which will give affiliation to religious and non-religious educational institutions in the country,” member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali told PTI.

26 more new engineering colleges get affiliation

Hyderabad, August 07:Clearing the decks for engineering counselling, the All-India Technical Education Council (AICTE) today sanctioned affiliation to 663 engineering colleges including 26 new colleges in the state. The list of engineering colleges which were sanctioned approval was handed over to the delegation of the technical education department in New Delhi today.
