Man dies after boarding aircraft

Kolkata, June 15: A Bangladeshi air passenger on Sunday died of heart attack in a Dhaka-bound flight, minutes after boarding it at Kolkata airport.

“From preliminary investigation it appears that 75-year-old Gobinda Lal Saha died of heart attack after taking his seat in the plane at about 4.45 pm,” Medical officer at NSC Bose International Airport, Dr S E Dey, said.

The body has been handed over to police for postmortem, he added.

Saha along with his wife and son had came to India for treatment and was due to return today through an Air India Express flight, sources said.

Manager held for accidental death of man in theatre

Chennai, June 15: Police on Saturday arrested the manager of the cinema hall where a 40-year-old man died last week when he tripped and fell on an iron
rod protruding from the seat. He has been booked for negligence. Hunt is also on for the owner of the theatre who is said to be in Singapore.

The identify of the man, who died in the theatre last Thursday, is yet to be established. “We have printed pamphlets with the victim’s photograph and circulated them in the Kothavalchavadi area to trace his identity,” inspector G Hari Kumar of Kothavalchavadi police station told The Times Of India.

Indian nuclear scientist found dead in mysterious circumstances

New Delhi, June 14: The body of India’s senior atomic scientist was recovered from a river near a nuclear plant in India’s southern Karnataka state after six days of search operations following his disappearance, news reports said Sunday. Divers found the body of Loknath Mahalingam, 47, in the Kali river on Saturday night, after he went missing from the Kaiga Atomic Power Station, about 500 kilometres north of state capital Bangalore, Mahalingam’s family identified the victim, the report said.

Two days ago, Abhijit Das, the victim went to Burrabazar with his employer’s money and was robbed by a gang. Rabindranath Ghosh, the owner of the shop, did not believe the incident had taken place and put pressure on him to refund the money.

Probe revealed that Das, a resident of Rishra in Hooghly, worked at Ghosh’s shop on Jadu Pandit Lane in north Kolkata for the past few years.

Kolkata, June 14: Mohammad Rehan Ali, a two-and-a-half-year-old boy, was electrocuted when he touched a water tap at a south Kolkata school on Saturday morning. Probe revealed that the metal outlet of the water tank had been touching a live wire hanging from the meter box.

Rehan’s father Mohammad Siraj is one of the security guards of the school Ballygunge Park Day School on Syed Amir Ali Avenue. The family stays on the school campus.

Though he initially tried to dispose of the bodies, the accused apparently had a change of heart and walked up to the police station and confessed.

Bar singer raped by autorickshaw driver

Mumbai, June 13: A 21-year-old woman working as a singer in a bar was allegedly raped by the driver of an autorickshaw in which she was returning home in the wee hours of Friday. The driver was arrested when he was taking her home after the incident, the police said.

The alleged victim (name withheld to protect her identity) is a native of Delhi. She has been living with her sister at Four Bungalows in Mhada Colony in Andheri (W) for three years.

The driver, Pramod Amarnath Shukla, is a resident of Vaishali Nagar in Dahisar (E).

Case of ‘suspicious’ death turns out to be murder, six held

Chennai, June 13: A mysterious death eventually turned out to be murder. Basing their investigation on the postmortem report, suburban police arrested six persons for the killing of P Sakthivel (29), whose body was found on the roadside near Kudrathur on December 24 last year. Sakthivel was murdered for eloping with the daughter of his employer. Police arrested the girl’s uncle Thyagarajan (30), his friend Poyyamozhi (40), and Senthi (22), Murugan (28), Velu (30) and Ramesh (22) who were hired for the deed.

Bangalore, June 13 : A 74-year-old retired defence officer murdered his wife by assaulting her with a crow bar, even as she was playing with their 10-month-old grandchild and their seven-year-old granddaughter was crying.

Soon after assaulting Rosylin, 58, K V Benny drank phenyl and tried to commit suicide. He is now recovering in hospital.

Chhota Shakeel denies rift within D-Company

New Delhi, June 13: Intra-gang rivalry in the Dawood Ibrahim group reportedly intensified so much that there are reports of one of the faction leaders Chhota Shakeel fleeing Pakistan.

Reports said he feared for his life and thus fled Pakistan. The factions, led by Anees Ibrahim, Dawood’s younger brother, and Shakeel have been at loggerheads for several months now. Surat, June 13: A 17-Year-old schoolgirl was kidnapped from the Majura Gate area and gangraped by three youths in a moving car in broad daylight on Friday.

The police arrested all the accused later in the day and seized the Opel Corsa car used in the crime. Two of the accused are sons of policemen.

Baby dies after being forgotten in car by father

Mexico City, June 13:A nine-month-old baby suffocated to death inside a car in the Mexican city of Saltillo, after his father forgot him there for seven hours, the Mexican daily La Vanguardia reported Friday.

The incident happened Thursday in Saltillo, about 850 km north of Mexico City.

The man realised what had happened when – at the end of his working day – he went to the day care centre to pick up his son and was told that he had never got there in the morning.

“I had him in my car, I forgot to bring him!” the man reportedly said.
