Schoolgirl gangraped in moving car

Surat, June 13: A 17-Year-old schoolgirl was kidnapped from the Majura Gate area and gangraped by three youths in a moving car in broad daylight on Friday.

The police arrested all the accused later in the day and seized the Opel Corsa car used in the crime. Two of the accused are sons of policemen.

The police said the girl was kidnapped from outside a private coaching centre while she, along with a male classmate, was waiting for classes to begin. A car approached them and three youths inside the vehicle forced them into the car, saying they were policemen, and drove away. The trio allegedly took turns to rape the girl, while the car was being driven around. They also captured the act on their mobile phones and later dropped the girl and the boy near their coaching centre.

The two rushed to their homes and informed their parents about the incident. The girl’s father immediately contacted the Athwalines police station and lodged a complaint of kidnapping-cum-rape. The girl was taken to the New Civil Hospital where medical examination confirmed rape.

Based on the complaint, all branches of Surat police were alerted. Much to the shock of the police, the car’s registration number took them to the house of Anand Inspector Zahir Saiyed on Habib Shah Street in Nanpura.

The boy who was kidnapped, identified Inspector Zahir’s son Shahid as one of the accused. Saiyed named his neighbours Tarik Saiyed and Abubaker Saiyed as his accomplices, and they were immediately arrested. Tarik is the son of a constable posted in Surat city, while Abubaker is into second-hand mobile phone business.

Surat DCP D R Patel said all accused are aged between 27 and 30 years. “The victim told us that they had captured the crime on their mobile phone, so we have seized their cellphones too,” he added.

This is second such rape incident in Surat in the last nine months. Last October, a 15-year-old schoolgirl was kidnapped from the Rander area by three youths and sexually abused in a moving vehicle.
