Lalit Gate: BJP slams Congress for raising baseless issues

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday criticised the Congress for coming up with a baseless issue over former IPL boss Lalit Modi’s alleged job offer to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s husband, Swaraj Kaushal, saying it had been done on a personal capacity.

“Regarding all the allegations, an email is sent on personal capacity to a professional appointee who is lawyer in this case which is Swaraj Kaushal and he’s not even accepted it. If this is the Congress’s idea of impropriety then they need to reflect on all cases that happen everyday in the country,” said Kohli.

Delay in purchasing goods would have resulted in lapse of funds: Pankaja

Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Pankaja Munde on Wednesday denied the charges of corruption levelled at her saying that the funds released by the Centre would have lapsed if there would have been further delay in ordering purchase of good for the department.

The Congress alleged that the changes were made from a government of India IP (Internet Protocol) address.

The very first paragraph of the article has been subject to unscrupulous change. It says ‘Jawaharlal Nehru was the first Prime Minister of India and a central figure in Indian politics for much of the 20th century. Security forces bust terrorist hideout in J-K

Security forces have busted a terrorist hideout in the Keshwan area of the Kishtwar District of Jammu and Kashmir.

The joint operation by the state police and the army also resulted in the recovery of a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives.

According to reports, this hideout had been used by terrorists in the past as well.

137,000 refugees, migrants crossed Mediterranean this year

A record 137,000 people made the perilous journey across the Mediterranean to Europe in the first half of 2015, most of them fleeing war, conflict and persecution, the United Nations said on Wednesday.

“Europe is living through a maritime refugee crisis of historic proportions,” the UN refugee agency warned in a report, adding that the number of people making the crossing swelled 83 per cent in the first six months of 2015 compared to a year earlier.

HC defers Salman’s appeal to July 13 as actor seeks time

The Bombay High Court today deferred till July 13 an appeal filed by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan against the five-year sentence awarded to him in the hit-and-run case, after the actor’s lawyer sought time to check documents.

Although the ‘paper book’ (compilation of evidence and documents) is ready and copies have been served to both the sides by the court), Salman’s counsel Amit Desai urged for three weeks’ adjournment to check whether the documents were in order.

Justice A R Joshi, however, granted adjournment till July 13 to carry out the drill of checking documents.

Danish woman appears in court, records statement

A 52-year-old Danish woman, who was allegedly gangraped by eight persons here last year, today appeared in a Delhi court which commenced recording of her statement.

The woman came to the court from Denmark in pursuance of summons issued earlier and her statement is being recorded before Additional Sessions Judge Kaveri Baweja in an in-camera proceeding.

The court had summoned the woman on February 24 this year for recording of her testimony after the earlier one issued on January 13 could not be served upon her.

Two French soldiers suspended over Burkina child sex claims

France has suspended two of its soldiers over allegations they sexually abused children, including a five-year-old girl, in the west African country of Burkina Faso, the defence ministry said.

“Two French soldiers on mission in Burkina Faso were suspected… Of engaging in acts of a sexual nature with two children,” France’s defence ministry said in a statement.

The suspensions follow an alleged sex abuse scandal involving French troops in Central African Republic (CAR), which caused outrage and only came to light after claims were leaked to the British press.

2 Bajrang Dal activists held for assaulting man

Two Bajrang Dal activists were arrested for allegedly beating up and parading a person for stealing a calf from a chowshed in Shamli district, police said here today.

Bajrang Dal district convener Vivek Premi and activist Sanni were arrested yesterday for allegedly assaulting the man, said SP Vijay Bhushan.

The incident, which took place last week, led to tension in the area, police said, adding, besides the arrested duo, a case has been registered against four other persons.

Police initiated action after a video of the incident surfaced on social networking websites.
