Anil Dua quits Hero MotoCorp; to pursue career abroad

Country’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp Monday said its Senior VP (Sales & Marketing) Anil Dua has put in his papers.

Dua will continue in his current role till June 24, Hero MotoCorp Ltd said in a statement.

Confirming the development, Dua said: “I have accepted an exciting opportunity outside of the country to begin a new chapter in my professional career.”

Driver arrested for collision with Munde’s car

The driver whose car rammed into Gopinath Munde’s car, killing the union minister, has been arrested, police said Tuesday.

Gurvinder Singh, who was driving the car, was arrested from the spot.

Singh, 32, was driving his personal Tata Indica car, which rammed into the senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader’s Maruti Suzuki SX4 on the side he was sitting, police said.

“We are investigating whether he (Singh) jumped the red light in the morning,” Delhi Police Joint Commissioner M.K. Meena told IANS.

Gopinath Munde dies in road accident

Maharashtra BJP leader Avdoot Bagh says that Mundeji’s car accident is a big conspiracy and may have been done by some people who are not happy with Narendra Modi and Gopinath Munde’s win.

The driver of the Indica car, which hit Munde’s vehicle is registered with Imperial Hotel. The driver is in police custody has been identified as Gurvinder.

Sensex up 70 pts in early trade ahead of RBI policy meet

The benchmark BSE Sensex rose over 70 points in early trade today as funds and investors made fresh buying ahead of the RBI’s bi-monthly policy review.

The 30-share barometer gained 70.89 points, or 0.29 per cent, to 24,755.74 with stocks of consumer durables, metals, IT, realty, oil and gas and power sectors leading the rise.

The Sensex had gained 467.51 points in the previous session on the back of slight improvement in HSBC Indian Manufacturing Purchasing Manager’s Index (PMI), a measure of factory production in May.

Rural Minister Gopinath Munde dies in road accident, funeral tomorrow

Senior BJP leader and union minister for rural development Gopinath Munde died this morning of a heart attack after a road accident in Delhi. He was 64.

At about 6.20 this morning, Mr Munde was on his way to the Delhi airport when an Indica car crashed into the minister’s SX4 car at the the Prithviraj Road and Aurobindo Chowk cross-section in the heart of the capital, the police said.

HM makes interim payment to workers

India’s oldest carmaker Hindustan Motors, which declared suspension of work at its Uttarpara plant on May 24, on Monday made an interim payment to workers.

The company paid Rs 7,000 each to around 2,500 workers with the total outgo touching Rs 1.8 crore, sources in Hindustan Motors said.

The money was credited to the bank accounts of workers, they said.

The sources said that the company had to arrange funds since there was no cash earnings as sale of Ambassador cars had dwindled resulting in zero production of the iconic brand.

Gopinath Munde killed in Delhi road accident

Union Rural Development Minister Gopinath Munde Tuesday died in a car accident here, doctors said.

“On his arrival to the AIIMS trauma centre, there was no spontaneous breathing, no blood pressure, no pulse and there was no cardiac activity. So immediately CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) was started and continued for the next 15 minutes.

“Despite all aggressive resuscitative measures, he could not be revived and has been declared dead at 7.20 a.m. Immediately the CPR was started and was continued for the next 50 minutes,” an AIIMS doctor told media.

Star set to swallow two exoplanets in 130 million and 155 million years

Astronomers have said that the planets Kepler-56b and Kepler-56c are going to be swallowed by their star in a short time by astronomical standards.

Their ends will come in 130 million and 155 million years, respectively.

Lead author Gongjie Li of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), said as far as they know, this is the first time two known exoplanets in a single system have a predicted “time of death.”

Four killed in Pakistan roadside blast

At least four people were killed and three injured Tuesday in an explosion in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan, a media report said.

The victims were travelling from Khurram region near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and were inside a vehicle when the explosion occurred, Dawn online reported. IANS

Extremely saddened by Munde’s death: Modi

Gopinath Munde was “a true mass leader”, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was “extremely saddened and shocked” by the union minister’s death.

“My tributes to a dynamic leader whose premature demise leaves a void hard to fill,” tweeted Modi.

Munde died in a car accident in Delhi early Tuesday.

Modi said in another tweet: “Gopinath Munde ji was a true mass leader. Hailing from backward sections of society, he rose to great heights & tirelessly served people.”

US intends to work with Palestinian unity government

The US intends to work with the new Palestinian unity government, but will monitor its policies closely, the State Department said Monday.

“At this point, it appears that President Abbas has formed an interim technocratic government that does not include ministers affiliated with Hamas,” Xinhua quoted State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki as saying at a press briefing. “Based on what we know now, we intend to work with this government.”

The first session of Telangana State Legislative Assembly will begin on June 9, according to Home Minister and TRS senior leader Nayani Narsimha Reddy.

Talking to mediapersons at Telangana Secretariat here on Monday, Nayani said the ruling party legislators would elect Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly during the session. The Cabinet would also take a decision to conduct the Assembly session as many days as possible.
