Researchers have said that an asthma drug omalizumab accelerates the process of desensitizing patients with food allergies to several foods at the same time.

The findings by researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford come on the heels of a recent study by the same team showing that people with multiple food allergies can be desensitized to several foods at once.

Muzaffarnagar riots main accused arrested, sent to judicial custody

A main accused involved in a Muzaffarnagar riots-related murder case has been arrested here, police said.

Pappu, son of Mahender Singh is one of the eleven accused in connection with the killing of a youth Nazim, was arrested yesterday, according to police.

A local court later sent him to a 14-day judicial custody.

He was sent to the custody by Chief Judicial Magistrate Narender Kumar yesterday.

A pistol was also recovered from his possession, they said.

No conciliation till TP row ends in Vodafone

The government will take a decision on withdrawal of conciliation offer to telecom company Vodafone for resolving the Rs 20,000 crore tax dispute after a transfer pricing case concerning the UK telecom giant is settled.

“The Cabinet has decided to instruct the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) to expeditiously solve the Vodafone transfer pricing case. Once that is done, the Cabinet will review the conciliation process,” a senior Finance Ministry official said after a meeting of the Union Cabinet on Friday.

Vodafone is locked in twin tax disputes with the government.

Woman who kissed Rahul Gandhi burnt to death by angry husband

Bonti, a woman who had kissed Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi during a recent event in Assam, has been allegedly burnt to death by her husband, according to a report in the India Today.

Reports said that a quarrel occurred between the couple over the kissing incident, following which the husband set his wife on fire.

The lady’s husband is also said to have suffered 40 percent burn injuries and is currently hospitalised.

Police suspect that she was subsequently set on fire by her husband. She suffered serious burns and later succumbed to her injuries.

ANA introduces WiFi service on international routes

Japan’s largest airline, All Nippon Airlines (ANA) introduces Wi-Fi service on its international routes enabling passengers to access internet on board.

ANA is the world’s eighth largest airline in terms of revenue and the country’s largest in terms of passengers.

The Wi-Fi service will enable ANA passengers to purchase internet access on-board through credit cards.

This technology will make it easier for the passengers to access internet on their smart phones or tablets and surf on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and various other portals.

US man ‘miraculously’ returns to life day after being declared dead

A man from Mississippi, USA, who was declared dead on Wednesday, returned to life the next day while he was getting prepared for his funeral.

Coroner Dexter Howard said that when he went to collect the body of 78-year-old Walter Williams, the latter had no pulse and was completely lifeless, CNN reported.

He continued saying that after he transported Williams’ corpse to the funeral home in a body bag, he noticed that the bag started moving in the embalming room.

Howard asserted that he noticed Williams’ legs were beginning to move and he also began to do a little breathing.

Brain differences associated with insomnia identified

Scientists have identified the brain differences between poor and good sleepers – increased brain plasticity in motor cortex.

Johns Hopkins researchers report that people with chronic insomnia show more plasticity and activity than good sleepers in the part of the brain that controls movement.

Study leader Rachel E. Salas, an assistant professor of neurology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, said that insomnia is not a nighttime disorder, but a 24-hour brain condition, like a light switch that is always on.

Kejriwal begins road show

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal kicked off his road show Saturday from the party’s office here and is slated to reach Kanpur Sunday.

Man detained for sexual assault, murder of boy

On Friday, a paedophile was arrested by the Chandanagar police for the kidnap-cum-murder of an eightyear-old boy.

According to Police, Raman Patel, a labourer, was nabbed based on the information given by some construction workers employed at Sri Sai Developers.

The boy went missing on February 18, following which his mother lodged a complaint with the Chandanagar police. On February 22, cops found a dead body in the middle of some bushes in a park at Huda layout, Nallagandla village. Residents identified the body as that of the missing boy.

National peace talks held in Venezuela to end protests

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro opened another session of a national conference for peace Friday, seeking to put an end to the country’s weeks-long violent protests.

At the meeting, Maduro proposed turning the event into a permanent forum, reported Xinhua.

Among other measures to promote peace, Maduro called for a political liaison committee as a permanent channel of communication between various sectors in Venezuela.

BJP’s regret to Muslims: Too little too late?

It has taken no less than 12 years for the top BJP leadership to come down a few notches from its high horse in offering regret for the 2002 riots in Gujarat in which at least a 1,000 people of the minority community were killed. If the apology is indeed sincere then there should not have been any reservations in going public to assuage the feelings and susceptibilities of the affected.

The timing of BJP President Rajnath Singh’s belated regret in providing a soothing balm for the Gujarat pogrom where the innocent were mowed down in cold blood is significant.

China’s manufacturing PMI drops

China’s purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for manufacturing sector dropped to 50.2 percent in February, down from 50.5 percent for January, official data showed Saturday.

February continued January’s decline with most sub-indices shrinking, according to a statement jointly released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing.

A reading below 50 indicates contraction, while that above 50 signals expansion, Xinhua reported.
