Congress core group meets on Bansal, Ashwani fate

The core committee of the Congress party met here to discuss various issues including the fate of Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and Law Minister Ashwani Kumar following the demands for their resignation.

The meeting is being held at Prime Minister’s Manmohan Singh’s residence, party sources said.

Ram Charan assaults car driver

Union Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi’s son and upcoming cine actor Ram Charan beat up a vehicle driver at the Taj Deccan Hotel on Sunday.

Ram Charan was furious when the driver of a Maruti 800 hit his Austin Martin car.

He got down from his car and heaped blows on him.

Added to this, Charan’s personal body guard also assaulted the driver.

The driver was grievously injured and his shirt was torn. He went to the Banjara Hills police station and lodged a complaint against the actor and his body guard.

Police said they were investigating the case.

State keen on providing adequate power to key sectors

To bail the State out from severe power crunch and to avoid restrictions in the long run besides achieving targeted goals in power sector, the State Government has firmed up its resolve to expedite implementation of five-point program to provide adequate and satisfactory power supply to key sectors like Agriculture, Industry and domestic supply.

No severe differences in party: Kripa Rani

Union Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology Dr Killi Krupa Rani has said there were no serious differences among the party leaders barring some trivial differences of opinion on some issues. She also made it clear that differences of opinion were quite natural in a big party like Congress as there was internal democracy and freedom of speech. She said the so-called differences among leaders in the ruling party were creation of the media and Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy knows how to deal with the situation.

Democrat wants Nikki Haley to be sent back to ‘wherever the hell she came from’

South Carolina Democratic Chairman Dick Harpootlian has defended controversial comments he made about Governor Nikki Haley .

Harpootlian said he hoped that in about 18 months from now, gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen, will have sent Haley back to “wherever the hell she came from”, adding that the country can move forward after her departure, reports the Huffington Post.

Harpootlian said this at a state Democratic party event.

Imran Khan vows to abandon ‘American war’ in Pakistan, if voted to power

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ( PTI) chief Imran Khan has promised that his party would abandon the war on terror as “it was an American war being fought on Pakistan’s soil”, if his party is voted to power.

The Daily Times quoted Khan, as saying that he would also order the army to shoot down US drones if it crosses the Pakistani border.

After coming into power, he said that he would maintain zero tolerance against corruption, nepotism and injustice in the society and introduce reforms in police, local government and revenue systems for the socio-economic uplift of masses.

JUI-F issues fatwa: Voting for Imran Khan is ‘haram’

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman has issued a decree (fatwa) against Imran Khan , saying that vote to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief is ‘haram’.

The Daily Times quoted Fazl as saying that Imran was an agent of ‘Ahmedi’ and Zionist lobbies.

Fazl also reminded that Imran gave a fake decree with the reference of Maulana Saeed Ahmad Usmani, who had passed away in 2010.

Facebook could make you mentally ill

Facebook and other social networking sites can affect your mental health, scientists have claimed.

They have linked psychotic episodes in patients to internet addiction and delusions related to virtual relationships, the Daily Express reported.

While all the participants in a study had social problems such as loneliness, none had previous episodes of psychosis or drug abuse.

“As internet access becomes increasingly widespread, so do related psychopathologies,” Lead researcher Dr Uri Nitzan said.

Finance Minister P.Chidambaram on Saturday said the government is confidentabout pushing ahead with its proposal to raise the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) cap on the insurance and pension sectors. Chidambaram also said that an independent regulatory authority would be announced shortly for the road and coal sectors and as also for tariff setting in the Railways.

IT dept detects Rs. 7 crore evasion in Gadkari’s companies

The Income Tax department has detected alleged tax evasion to the tune of Rs. 7 crore in the business transactions of Purti group of companies related to former BJP president Nitin Gadkari.

Probing the alleged dubious transactions of the Purti Power and Sugar Limited (PPSL) since last year, the department has completed assessments pertaining to the last two financial years and has found evasion to the tune of more than Rs 7 crore, top official sources said.

Man Swallowed by Hippo Lives to Tell Tale

A man from Zambia has revealed that he was once swallowed by a hippo.He was 27 and owned a business taking clients down the Zambezi river near Victoria Falls, the Guardian reported.

That day he’d taken clients out with three apprentice guides in kayaks.

They were near the end of the tour, when the hippo took him by surprise.

His boat, with his clients still in it, had been lifted half out of the water on the back of the huge bull hippo.

He was trapped up to his waist in the hippo’s mouth.

Karnataka assembly polls: 15 to 20 percent voting in first three hours

About 15 to 20 percent electorate has cast their vote in the first three hours of polling in Karnataka on Sunday.

Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Ministers M Mallikarjuna Kharge and M Veerappa Moily, Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G Parameshwara and Karnataka Janata Party supremo B S Yeddyurappa were among those who voted in the initial hours.

Polling commenced at 7 a.m. would continue till 6 p.m. The timing for the casting of votes has been extended by an hour in 223 Assembly segments of the total 224.

5 E! Online’s Twitter account was hacked on Saturday, claiming to have an exclusive of Justin Bieber coming out of the closet.

The hackers quickly began spreading bogus 140-character bits of celebrity gossip to its 5 million followers, the New York Daily News reported.

“Exclusive: Justin Bieber to E!online: I’m a gay,” the E! Online account announced — prompting 1,200 retweets and 351 favorites.

A group billing itself as the Syrian Electronic Army claimed responsibility for the takeover.

Mahesh Kumar suspended for allegedly paying a bribe to Bansal”s nephew

Mahesh Kumar, Member (Staff) Railway Board who had allegedly paid a bribe of Rs 90 lakh to the nephew of Railway Minister P K Bansal, was suspended last night.

According to television reports, Kumar was placed under suspension after receipt of a report from CBI in the said matter. Kumar was arrested by CBI after the agency apprehended him while paying the bribe to Bansal”s nephew Vijay Singla reportedly for a plum post.

With the arrest of Kumar and another middle man Rahul Yadav, CBI claims the total number of arrests has gone to seven in the bribery case.

Yeddyurappa confident of forming next govt. in Karnataka

Ahmedullah attempts to resolve tug of war between Waqf Board and Hajj Committee

Minority Welfare Minister Mr. Ahmedullah has taken initiative to settle the dispute between Waqf Board and Hajj Committee on the construction of a new Hajj House near Shamsabad. He informed that he will convene a meeting of Hajj committee and Waqf Board officials in a day or two, to sort out the matter.

As soon as the matter is sorted, he will try to arrange for the foundation laying ceremony by chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy within a month. Mr. Ahmedullah noted that stalemate continues in the construction of New Hajj House for the past two years due to some or other reasons.
