South Carolina Democratic Chairman Dick Harpootlian has defended controversial comments he made about Governor Nikki Haley .
Harpootlian said he hoped that in about 18 months from now, gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen, will have sent Haley back to “wherever the hell she came from”, adding that the country can move forward after her departure, reports the Huffington Post.
Harpootlian said this at a state Democratic party event.
When asked to clarify what he meant by “where she came from,” Harpootlian said, Lexington County where Haley lived, adding that anybody implying anything different is attempting to feign insult.
Haley’s spokesman said the comments were “the lowest common denominator”.
Haley is a US citizen who was born and raised in South Carolina. Her parents are immigrants from India.
Last year, Harpootlian had compared Haley to Adolf Hitler’s mistress. (ANI)
