Few new ideas in Rajnath’s speech

BJP president Rajnath Singh’s speech at the party’s national council meeting here Saturday appeared to have little by way of new ideas or demands to catch popular imagination but he spoke with ease and command.

Among the new demands the new party chief made were for India to take initiative for tripartite water treaty with China and Bangladesh over the Brahmaputra river.

He also demanded that seats reserved for PoK residents in Jammu and Kashmir assembly be filled by refugees and Kashmiri Pandits.

NCP raped Maharashtra for 14 years: Raj Thackeray

Renewing his attack on the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray Saturday accused the Sharad Pawar-led party of “raping” Maharashtra for the past 14 years.

“The NCP is holding all the crucial departments, home, irrigation, power and roads since 14 years. But what have they done so far? The NCP has raped the state,” Thackeray said at a public rally in Jalna, 452 km to the east of Mumbai, in the parched Marathwada region.

Modi hogs limelight at BJP meet, may be taken into parliamentary board

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, favoured as a prime ministerial candidate by many in the BJP, hogged the limelight at the national council meeting here Saturday even as president Rajnath Singh asked the party ranks to be prepared for early Lok Sabha polls.

Meanwhile, the national executive authorised Rajnath Singh to reconstitute the parliamentary board, clearing the way for induction of Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in BJP’s highest decision-making body, said party sources.

Congress to move court against post-poll violence in Tripura

The Congress Saturday threatened to move the courts and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) against alleged attacks on party workers by CPI-M activists after the Tripura polls.

“We will report to Congress president Sonia Gandhi about the atrocities on party workers by the CPI-M. The party will move to the court and NHRC to intervene into these violence against Congressmen,” Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters here.

“This is the responsibility of the Left Front government to take appropriate steps to stop the post-poll violence,” he said.

UAE, Spain hold talks

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Spain have held discussions over relations between the two countries.

The meet was held between UAE ambassador to Spain Hasa Abdullah Al Otaiba and Juan Jose Lucas, first vice president of the Spanish Senate.

Lucas, during the talks, welcomed bilateral cooperation between the two nations while expressing his admiration about the prosperity attained by the UAE and Emirati women empowerment in political arena.

Five killed in China road crash

At least five people were killed and three injured when a minivan fell off a cliff in China’s Guizhou province.

The accident occurred Saturday morning when a minivan carrying eight people plunged 100 metres down a cliff near Wugu village, said officials and rescuers.

The cause was yet to be ascertained.

Asad owaisi,2 Corporators arrested and released in Basavakalyan

The Hyderabad MIM Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi and two of its corporators have been arrested by the Karnataka police for defying police orders.

According to the latest reports the MP along with corporators Wajahat Ali Khan and Samad Bin Abdad were arrested near Basavakalyan area of Karnataka while he was on the way to Humnabad.The Mudgi police detained him on the allegations that he addressed a meeting for which the police did not granted permission.

Later they were released on furnishing personal bonds.

Bihar CM Nitish calls Congress ”inflation” party

Patna/Chennai, Mar. 2 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday lashed out at the UPA Government over the recent hike in petrol prices, saying the other name of the ruling Congress Party at the Centre is inflation.

“Sometimes the price of petrol, diesel, rail fare is increased and sometimes the price of essential commodities is also increased. The other name of Congress party is inflation party. The prices will continue to rise till the party is ruling,” he told media in Patna.

Vaiko demands independent probe on war crimes committed by Lankan military

Chennai, Mar. 2 (ANI): Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) leader Vaiko on Saturday pressed his demand for an independent international investigation on the war crimes committed by Sri Lankan military on Tamils.

Vaiko said that Indian Government should severe all economic ties with Sri Lanka.

“Our demand is very clear. There should an independent international investigation about the genocide of Tamils committed by the racist Sri Lanka Government. There should be an economic embargo as a resolution adopted in Tamil Nadu assembly,” Vaiko told media here.

Congress pulls up BJP for focusing on Modi

New Delhi, Mar. 2 (ANI): Congress Party on Saturday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for unnecessarily highlighting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and sidelining the other leaders.

Lack of protein linked to dementia

Washington, Mar 2 (ANI): A shortage of a protein called TDP-43 causes muscle wasting and stunted nerve cells, a new study has suggested.

This finding supports the idea that malfunction of this protein plays a decisive role in ALS and FTD.

ALS is an incurable neurological disease which manifests as rapidly progressing muscle wasting.

Both limbs and respiratory muscles are affected. This leads to impaired mobility and breathing problems.

Shinde hopes NIA and Hyderabad Police work together to probe twin blasts

New Delhi, Mar. 2 (ANI): Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Saturday said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the local police of Hyderabad would work together and crack the case of the recent twin bomb blasts that rocked the city on February 21.
“When I visited the blast site the second day, I had taken our NIA team with us, and the local police were also present there. As far as possible, we don”t want to put pressure on any state,” Shinde told media on the sidelines of an event here.

UK web users double in six years, says report

London, Mar 2 (ANI): The number of British adults using the Internet on daily basis has doubled in the last six years, a report has said.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said that in 2012, 33 million adults used the internet daily, compared with 16 million in 2006.

Over the same period, the percentage of people who say they never use the Internet more than halved, from 36 per cent in 2006 to 16 percent last year, the report said.
