A few days back, incidents of pelting stones on the houses belonging to Minorities and causing injuries to Muslim youths occurred in Musheerabad area.

For violence in Sabzi Mandi police is responsible: Tameer-e-Millat

All India Majlis-e-Tameer-e-Millat, a Muslim organization of the city alleged that police is responsible for the unfortunate incidents of violence in Sabzi Mandi area in which the properties of the Muslims worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed. This area is a sensitive spot prone to communal riots. It has a long history of various incidents of violence and communal tensions. Police didn’t do anything for maintaining Law and Order in this area. Last year also, miscreants had set ablaze Hazrath Mahboob Subhani’s Chilla and flag, which is set up in the middle of Sabzi Mandi Market.

Bank cheaters jailed
(Siasat News); The CBI court on Tuesday ordered the eight persons accused of defrauding Andhra Bank of Rs. 1.1 crore to three year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 20,000 each.

M Pratap Reddy, M Latha Reddy, Ashok Reddy, T Pratap Reddy and Y Ram Reddy had taken a loan of Rs. 1.1 crore from Andhra Bank’s Baghamberpet branch in the guise of running a poultry business.

They took loans using dales documents in the name of fictitious firms, with the help of bank manager Sri Ramgopal.

Woman with 165 kg pumpkin wins contest

A woman in Latvia has won a competition for having the largest pumpkin in her northern European nation after her gourd was found weighing 460 kg, the contest organiser said Tuesday.

Daine Badovska, of Skrunda city which is 130 km from capital city of Riga, had won the same competition last year too.

While the pumpkin which remained at second and third places during this year’s contest for largest pumpkin weighed 117 kg and 110 kg respectively.

Ailing Pak woman sells only child for Rs 1.2 lakh

A poor woman from Punjab province has sold her seven-month-old son to an expatriate Pakistani family for Rs 1.2 lakh to meet the cost of her medical treatment, prompting police to act against both parties.

The incident occurred in Gujranwala district, 80 km from Lahore.

Khalida Bibi, who is suffering from cardiac and liver ailments, sold her son Faizan yesterday for Rs 1.2 lakh to Mohammad Shaukat, who works in UAE.

“I had no money for my treatment and so I decided to sell my only child,” Khalida told reporters.

Homeguard staff killed in mishap in UP

A homeguard was killed and his friend injured when their motorcycle collided with a truck in Civil Lines area, police said here Wednesday.

Sachin (36) and his friend Rajesh was seriously injured in the mishap near Naushera village last night.

They were rushed to a hospital where Sachin died during treatment.

3 IAS officers revolt against govt.

Three senior IAS officers of the rank of special chief secretaries virtually revolted against the government for creating chaos in the administration. The IAS officers opposed the appointment of a junior officer M Samuel as chief commissioner of land administration (CCLA). The protesting officers approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) and urged the tribunal to annul not only Samuel’s appointment as CCLA but also his promotion to the post of a special chief secretary. The CCLA’s post is seen as the stepping stone to that of the chief secretary.

Janardhana Reddy gets bail in judge bribery case

The Andhra Pradesh High Court Wednesday granted bail to former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhana Reddy in cash-for-bail controversy.

However, the mining baron will remain behind the bars as he is yet to get bail in Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) scam, the main case against him. He is currently lodged in Chanchalguda Central Jail here.

A court of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cases earlier this month had dismissed Janardhana Reddy’s bail plea in cash-for-bail case. He had subsequently moved the high court.

Cyclone ‘Nilam’ brings downpour in Tamil Nadu

Cyclonic storm ‘Nilam’ on Tuesday brought heavy rains in several parts of North Tamil Nadu, affecting normal life.

As the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal intensified into the cyclone and remained practically stationary, centred at about 450 kms south-southeast of Chennai and 130 kms north-northeast of Trincomalee in Sri Lanka, the city and several parts of the state experienced incessant rains since morning.

The storm is expected to cross the coast between Cuddalore in the state and Nellore in Andhra Pradesh tomorrow.

Rains lash Andhra Pradesh under influence of cyclone

Rains and strong gales hit Nellore in Andhra Pradesh and other neighbouring districts of Tamil Nadu under the influence of cyclonic storm ‘Nilam’.

The cyclone is expected to make a landfall this evening between Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu and Nellore, bringing in heavy rains in the region with tide expected to reach levels of 1.5 meters.

The Andhra Pradesh Government has put administration of the coastal districts under alert to face the situation and made arrangements accordingly.

Rescue workers began evacuating stranded residents from flooded neighbourhoods after Sandy, the most devastating megastorm in decades, hit densely populated US East coast region, even as President Barack Obama warned that the storm was “not yet over“.

The storm hit the East coast with fierce force, killing nearly 50 people across seven US states, plunging millions of homes into darkness and leaving the New York Stock Exchange shut for two straight days for the first time since 1888. Many of the victims were killed by falling trees, Fox news said.

Salman to keep his hands off Kareena

He is called ‘Bhai’ for a reason. Superstar Salman Khan will soon be sharing screen space with the newly married Kareena Kapoor in a supposed raunchy item song called ‘Fevicol’ for Salman’s home production, ‘Dabangg 2’.

Reiterating that the corruption charges against him were part of a conspiracy, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari Wednesday said his assets were worth Rs.12.5 crore and he was ready for any kind of probe.

Gadkari, who arrived in Mumbai Wednesday morning, was welcomed by hundreds of supporters at the airport.

“There are attempts being made to slander me, to destroy my reputation,” he said.

“My assets are worth Rs.12.5 crore and I am ready to face any probe,” he told reporters in Hindi.

Miandad threatens legal action against Sarfaraz

Pakistan’s former captain and Cricket Board official Javed Miandad has threatened to sue ex-teammate Sarfaraz Nawaz for stating that he pushed for the inclusion of tainted players in the PCB.

Miandad’s warning to Nawaz came just a day after Pakistan’s former Test pacer Ata ur Rehman said he had consulted his lawyers to send a notice to Nawaz for his comments.

Nawaz was until recently employed as a coach by the Board. His accusations came after the PCB recently appointed ex-Test spinner Akram Raza to the umpires panel and also appointed Rehman as coach for the FATA area.

‘Shameful’ industrialist: Digvijaya takes on Anil Ambani

Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday termed as “shameful” industrialist Anil Ambani’s comparison of Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to his late father Dhirubhai Ambani.

Addressing a youth Congress function, Singh said he read in newspapers that Anil reportedly compared Chouhan to his father.

“For me, such a statement is nothing but shameful,” he said, adding there was no way Chouhan could be compared to Dhirubhai, who started out as a petrol-pump attendant and went on to become the country’s biggest industrialist.
