Hyderabad, Sept.5 (NSS): Gathering vital information, a special team of city police on Wednesday intensified search for Dr Harsha Reddy, who was allegedly abducted for ransom. As Dr Harsha Reddy, working in the Yashoda Hospital at Malakpet was found missing since Monday evening, his friends lodged a complaint with the Malakpet police.

Parthasarathy moots healthy classrooms for students

Secondary Education Minister K Parthasarathy on Wednesday said that the classrooms and playgrounds in the schools would build students’ personality and mould their character.

Telangana will be among major issues for next elections: Advani

BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani on Wednesday announced that separate Telangana would be second major issue after corruption for the party for the next general elections.

Addressing the concluding function of party’s three-day Telangana Poru Deeksha at Jantar Mantar here, Advani said if the UPA fails to give statehood for the region, then BJP would include formation of Telangana as the second issue in its election manifesto. He slammed the Congress party for going back on its promise of initiating the process of formation of Telangana.

Shankar Rao predicts major political changes after Sept 10

Former Minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Wednesday claimed that major changes might occur in the State Government and Congress party after September 10th.

Talking to reporters in the Assembly premises, Dr Shankar Rao said that Union Ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad, Vylar Ravi and AK Antony would be visiting the State from September 10 and major changes could be expected after their visit. Criticising Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s style of functioning, he said that the Congress party has been losing its vote bank and grip among different communities due to his irresponsible behaviour.

India’s flamboyant cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who was battling with cancer, finally came out of it and now is all set to spread the awareness of early detection through a show titled ‘Zindagi Abhi Baki Hai’.

Going down the memory lane Yuvraj recalled the days when he was battling rare germ cell cancer. Yuvraj, who was the hero of India’s 2011 World Cup win, said when he was diagnosed with cancer the only thought in his mind was that of “saving his life”.

NRI businessman offers Rs 1 cr prize for garland of shoes for Raj Thackeray

London based NRI Anshuman Mishra has offered Rs 1 crore prize money to anyone who puts a garland of shoes on MNS chief Raj Thackrey.

In a statement, Mishra has said, he would offer the money even if any body throws a shoe at the MNS chief, as an Iraqi journalist had done the same to former US president George W. Bush in Baghdad.

“Such a person will not only get Rs 1 crore, but a job anywhere in New York or London, based on his or her resume”, Mishra’s statement says. The job would be given to ensure lifelong protection to the shoethrower, Mishra said.

Terror, 26/11 trial in Pak India’s core concerns

Setting the tone for the Foreign Minister-level Indo-Pak talks in Islamabad, India on Wednesday made it clear that terrorism and early conclusion of Mumbai terror attack trial in Pakistan remains “core concern” for it.

“All issues are going to be discussed…Terrorism is certainly a core concern to us. Mumbai (26/11 trial) is a core concern to us,” highly-placed sources said when asked about the agenda of the meeting between External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar on Saturday in Islamabad.

23 Indians on ship hijacked in Nigeria by pirates

Twenty-three Indian sailors are on board an oil tanker hijacked by pirates off the coast of Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, said the oil tanker company on Wednesday.

Pat Adamson, spokesperson for the Dubai-based Pioneer Ship Management Services LLC, told Xinhua on phone that all the crew on the fully loaded gasoline tanker are Indian nationals.

He said the company lost contact with the crew after they sent distress signals even as the pirates boarded the ship in the night, with their last message indicating they had locked themselves inside a panic room on the vessel.

‘SP-BSP scuffle over job promotion quota bill unfortunate’

Terming the scuffle between SP and BSP members in Rajya Sabha during the introduction of a bill to provide reservation in promotion for SCs/STs as “unfortunate”, Union minister V Narayanasamy on Wednesday said the government will have to “live with the situation”.

“I had to face (similar) turbulance in the House (Rajya Sabha) when I moved the Lokpal Bill (in the winter session). But we’ll have to live with the situation,” the Minister of State for Personnel told reporters after introducing the Constitutional amendment bill.

BJP asks Mayawati to back opposition fight against corruption

A day after BSP supremo Mayawati sought its support for a bill seeking reservation in promotion for SC/ST employees, BJP Monday asked her to back the opposition in its fight against “corruption” in UPA government.

“I want to request Mayawati that she should at least once support us in our fight against corruption against so many scams such as the 2G, CWG, there is issue of airport land and Coalgate,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.

“I just want to say that Mayawati should come in our support in fight against the corruption in the UPA regime,” Prasad said.

TRS chief expects Telangana issue resolution this month

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao Wednesday exuded confidence that the Telangana issue would be solved this month.

“The Telangana issue will definitely be solved this month. There is no doubt about it,” he remarked, before leaving for New Delhi along with other leaders amid intensified efforts in the national capital to seek immediate steps for the formation of a separate Telangana state.

CAG, government on same page: Kamal Nath

Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath Wednesday said the Congress-led UPA government and the country’s official auditor were on the “same page” on the issue of allocation of coal blocks that has so far disrupted proceedings in parliament for 11 consecutive day.

Responding to reporters who asked him about the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report on coal blocks allocations that suggested a presumptive loss of Rs.1.86 lakh crore ($37 billion), he said, “We are on the same page”.

Willing for debate on coal allocation after PM resigns: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday said it was willing to debate in parliament on coal blocks allocation only after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s resignation.

“There is a logjam in parliament as BJP has raised the issue of coal blocks allocation. We want prime minister’s resignation as the allocations were made when he was holding the portfolio of coal minister,” said BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad.

“Besides, we want cancellation of all 142 allocated blocks and an impartial probe after which BJP is willing for any debate,” he said.

No report of Chinese incursion in JK: Antony

There is no report of any Chinese incursion in Jammu and Kashmir but the areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) are under constant army surveillance, the Rajya Sabha was informed Wednesday.

“No report of Chinese incursion has been received from the government of Jammu and Kashmir…The areas along LAC are kept under constant surveillance by regular patrolling by troops and other aerial, optronic and electronic means,” Defence Minister A K Antony told the Upper House in a written reply.

Over Rs 2 L cr spent on defence equipment in 3 yrs

India spent around Rs two lakh crore for procuring defence equipment for its armed forces in the last three years, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

“Rs 1.98 lakh crore has been the total expenditure on procurement of defence equipment for armed forces during the last three years,” Defence Minister AK Antony said in a written reply.

India has undertaken a major military modernisation drive under which it is planning to spend more than USD 100 billion in the next five years for procuring weapon systems for the armed forces.

Hyderabad police intensify search for kidnapped doctor ‎

A special team of Hyderabad police Wednesday intensified their search for a doctor who was allegedly kidnapped for ransom.

Police traced the mobile phone of Harsha Reddy, a radiologist at Yashoda Hospital, in neighbouring Nalgonda district. The police suspect the kidnappers threw the doctor’s mobile phone at Durajpalli and it was recovered from a villager who had picked it up from the roadside.

Following the recovery of the phone, the police intensified checking along the Hyderabad-Suryapet highway in Nalgonda district.
