IT refund scam bust, 6 held

The City Police today claimed to busted a gang involved in income tax refund scam to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore. In a release, the City Crime Station (CCS) here said Shaik Mohammad Jahangir (32) a Tax Consultant, Ms B. Anju Rani (27) a outsourcing employee in Income Tax Department, Mohammad Raziuddin Siddiqi (32), Mir Mustafa Ali Hussaini (43), Mir Mujtaba Ali Hussaini (31) and Mohammad Abdul Wahed (47) (all hailing from city) were arrested in this connection. Properties worth Rs.50 lakhs, house documents, cars and gold bracelet were seized from the accused.

Planning Commission sanctions Rs 300 cr for Bio Diversity conference

The Planning Commission has sanctioned Rs 300 crores to Andhra Pradesh for the Bio Diversity Conference to be held here in next month. This was informed to the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy by the Planning Commission, an official release said here today. The Chief Minister thanked the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia. It may be recalled that the state government is spending Rs 450 crore for this prestigious conference.

SCR partialy cancelled few trains due to track works

Due to track works in view of bank slip between Balharshah and Manikgarh stations in the Balharshah-Kazipet Section, South Central Railway (SCR) will partially cancel the some of the trains. In a release, the SCR here said today Train No 17234 Ballarshah-Secunderabad Bagyanagar Express scheduled to depart Ballarshah at 0210 hrs is partially cancelled tomorrow between Ballarshah and Sirpur Kaghaznagar and it will run between Sirpur kaghaznagar and Secundrabad.

Former minister Dr P. Shanker Rao has said the image of the Congress was waning day after day due to feuding between PCC Chief Botcha Satyanarayana and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Railway constable held for rape

A 21-year-old woman was sexually harassed here by a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable who has been arrested, said police Wednesday.

The incident took place Tuesday in New Delhi Railway Station’s dormitory situated on the second floor.

Following the victim’s allegation, constable Pintu Kumar, 24, who joined RPF two years ago, was arrested from his residence Wednesday. A rape case has been registered against him, a police official said.

Washington Post denies apologising for PM article

The Washington Post Wednesday denied it has offered an apology for an article which described Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as “a dithering, ineffectual bureaucrat presiding over a deeply corrupt government”.

“I am not apologizing,” Washington Post journalist Simon Denyer said, defending the article on the CNN-IBN channel.

Rs 26,000-Cr. Benefits To People Annually: CM

TRS Chief K Chandrasekhara Rao has said that anything could happen during his Delhi stay from today onwards.
