India, Pak discussing ways to avert conflict on high seas

To avert military confrontations on high seas, India and Pakistan are discussing the establishment of a mechanism of direct contact between the navies of the two countries.

The mechanism could involve a communication system like hotline between senior officers of the two navies akin to that between the armies.

“These are issues we are discussing and certainly with respect to Pakistan, it forms part of the discussion between the two foreign ministries which is the protocol to prevent incidents at sea,” Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma told reporters here.

Pay compensation to dead Sikhs, BJP tells US

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday urged the US to pay compensation to Sikhs killed by a gunman in a gurdwara in Winconsin.

“The injured (should) be provided best medical facilities and compensation (should be paid) to the kith and kin of the killed,” BJP leader Vijay Jolly said in a communication to US envoy Nancy Powell.

Jolly, convenor of the BJP’s overseas affairs, demanded “adequate security” for all gurdwaras and Hindu temples in the US.

IndiGo launches its First ever International Operations to Hyderabad from Dubai!

IndiGo, India’s premier airline launched its new daily flight on the Dubai-Hyderabad sector today, with an Airbus-320 aircraft. The new Dubai-Hyderabad flight will be IndiGo Airlines’ first international service to Hyderabad, and its first service from Dubai to Southern India.

The first flight landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) from Dubai at 11.05 hrs today and received a traditional water canon salute welcome at the airport in the presence of RGIA and IndiGo Airlines officials.

Tell legislator to remove structure near Jama Masjid: court urged

Delhi Police Tuesday moved the high court seeking direction to legislator Shoaib Iqbal to remove the structure built by him in Subhash Park, near the Jama Masjid, where the ruins of a 17th century mosque were unearthed.

Showing its helplessness to provide force to the North Municipal Corporation of Delhi to remove the structure, as directed by the court, police said it is the month of Ramzan and if their application is not allowed, it might result in disturbance of peace.

Rajesh Khanna’s classic movies “Aradhana” and “Haathi Mere Saathi” emerged as the late superstar’s most popular films among online users during the month of July, when he breathed his last.

Rajesh Khanna died July 18 after battling health problems.

Mom-in-law upset with Farah Khan

Director-turned-actress Farah Khan has revealed that her mother-in-law is a bit upset ever since she saw Boman Irani in a towel during the shoot of “Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi”.

“Shirish (Kunder), as usual, has not reacted at all. He has this deadpan reaction. But my mother-in-law was very excited that I was acting in a film. So she came to watch the shoot one day but unfortunately that day Boman was shooting the semi-nude scene,” the 47-year-old said here Monday in an interview.

Deshmukh’s condition critical

The condition of Union Science and Technology Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, admitted to a private hospital here for liver-related ailment, is “critical,” hospital sources said today.

“His condition is critical. He is in the ICU. Doctors are attending on him,” said an official in the Global Hospital at suburban Perumbakkam, where he was admitted after being brought to the city in an air ambulance yesterday.

The 67-year-old two-time Maharashtra Chief Minister is under the care of noted liver transplant surgeon Dr Mohamed Rela at the hospital.

Moonshine kills 11 in Punjab

Illicit liquor has claimed 11 lives in a village in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, police said Tuesday.

The victims belonged to Johal Nangal village near Batala town, 250 km from here.

At least 15 others who had also consumed the liquor Monday night were admitted to a Batala hospital in serious condition.

Residents of the affected village staged a protest, denouncing the administration for not taking any steps to control the illegal manufacture of liquor.

Fiza cremated in Chandigarh

Fiza Mohammed aka Anuradha Bali, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her house, was Tuesday cremated as per Hindu rites by her relatives.

Fiza had married former Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan but was later divorced. She was found dead Monday in Sector 48 of Mohali near here.

Earlier, doctors at a government hospital at Mohali conducted post-mortem of her highly decomposed body and said there were no signs of any external injury.

“Her viscera has been sent for examination to know the exact cause of her death,” a doctor said in Mohali, 10 km from here.

Nasim Ahmad Zaidi is new election commissioner

Former civil aviation secretary Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi was Tuesday appointed an election commissioner by President Pranab Mukherjee.

“The president has appointed Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi as the election commissioner with effect from the date he assumes the office,” a statement issued here said.

Zaidi, a 1976 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh Cadre, retired as the civil aviation secretary July 31. He will be India’s election commissioner till 2017.

Crisil cuts India’s growth forecast to 5.5 percent

Research and ratings agency Crisil Tuesday cut India’s economic growth forecast to 5.5 percent for the 2012-13 financial year from its earlier estimate of 6.5 percent, citing deficient monsoon and worsening Eurozone crisis.

It also raised India’s core inflation forecast to 8 percent for this fiscal from 7 percent announced earlier.

“The downward revision in India’s growth forecast factors in the adverse impact of rainfall deficiency (an expected deficiency of 15 percent for June-September 2012) and worsening of the Eurozone growth outlook,” Crisil said in a report.

13 killed, three missing after heavy rains in Beijing

At least 13 people were killed and three others remained missing in floods and landslides caused by heavy rainstrom in China’s central Hubei Province.

The rainstorm triggered by Typhoon Saola has also left 725 people injured and destroyed thousands of households while many were forced from their homes. Floods and landslides triggered by maximum precipitation surpassing 400 mm has affected 120,000 households and caused direct economic loss of USD 124 million, state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

Saudi lingerie shops given female staff deadline

Lingerie outlets and other shops selling women’s accessories in Saudi Arabia have been instructed to ensure they are fully staffed by women and have no male employees on their rosters.

The directive, that has come with a mid-August deadline, stems from a new legislation, that bars men from manning such shops.

Any store found employing male workers beyond that date, likely either August 18-19, will be closed down, local media quoted Labour Ministry Undersecretary Fahd Al-Takhayyufi as saying.

Dismal condition of Nilofer hospital

Nilofer Farhat Begum Sahiba was one of the last princesses of the Ottoman Empire. She was married to the second son of the last Nizam of Hyderabad in India. Several years passed after the marriage, but still Nilofer did not conceive a child. She found that there were no specialist doctors in Hyderabad whom she could consult. She had to travel to Europe to consult doctors, which she did. During this time, one of her maids died in Hyderabad during childbirth, again as a result of the lack of medical facilities.

Fiza’s autopsy report out, cause of death unclear

The autopsy report of Fiza aka Anuradha Bali, the ex-wife of former Haryana chief minister Chander Mohan Bali, has indicated no injury marks on her body, and adds that the cause of her death is unclear.

The report, that came out on Tuesday, says that the viscera has been sent for chemical examination.

Fiza’s dead body was found on Monday at her Chandigarh residence by one of her uncles, Satpal, who had gone to visit her.

The Mohali Police is probing the cause of her death, and are not calling it a suicide yet.

US mosque gutted in fire in a suspected arson atta

A day after the tragic shooting incident at a Gurdwara, a mosque in the US was burned to the ground for the second time in little more than a month in a suspected arson attack.

The FBI said the Islamic Centre of Joplin in Missouri was gutted down to the ground yesterday. The center was vacant at the time of the fire and no individuals sustained any injuries.

Posters warn women of acid attack for wearing jeans

Posters put by an outfit in the Jharkhand capital have threatened acid attacks on girls and women who wear jeans or do not wear a dupatta. The police said it could be a case of mischief.

The handwritten posters, put up by Jharkhand Mukti Sangh at several points in the city, including St. Xavier’s College and Albert Ekka roundabout, read: “From 20/8/2012 (Aug 20), jeans have been banned for girls. Any girl will be found wearing jeans and moving without dupatta will be attacked with acid.”

Odisha: Wanted Maoist arrested

A Maoist, allegedly involved in obstructing security forces in launching a search for BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka after his abduction in March, was arrested in Odisha’s Koraput district, police said on Tuesday.

Bhima Huija was involved in road blockades in Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon blocks when the tribal MLA from Laxmipur was abducted, they said.

Huija, who also led the extremists in Maudivalsa panchayat, was in the wanted list of police for a long time, Koraput SP Awinash Kumar said.

Osmania University College for Women, Kothi, Sultan Bazaar is starting a course in spoken English for ladies. Kofta Curry Recipe

Ingredients:

1 kg mutton, boneless
2 pyaj
oil (tel) for frying
6 green chilies finely cut
2 1/2 tblsp besan roasted
salt (namak) to taste
1 egg
1 tsp red chili powder
2 inch piece ginger (adrak) finely cut
for the curry
2 tsps. coriander leaves (dhania patta)
1 tsp haldi powder
3 pyaj
1 tsp garam masala
3-5 garlic (lasan)
1 cup. tomatoes, boiled & skinned
salt (namak) to taste
1 1/2″ ginger (adrak)
1 tsp red chili powder

How to make kofta curry:
To make the koftas, grind the meat with all the other ingredients.
Make small balls with this mixture.
