Mopidevi’s judicial remand extended till June 21

The CBI Special Court at Nampally on Thursday extended judicial remand of former Prohibition and Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana till June 21. He was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the disproportionate assets case of YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The court took this decision after Mopidevi was produced following the expiry of his judicial custody. Following the court’s directions, the officials shifted Mopidevi to Chanchalguda Central Jail.

Attachment of Satyam promoters’ properties gets CM nod

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday approved the attachment of 44 properties in various districts in the name of the family members of promoters of Satyam Computers.
The properties located in in Ranga Reddy, East and West Godavari districts are worth about Rs 2.48 Crores. The government has approved this on the request of Central Bureau of Investigation. TRS cannot achieve Telangana: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party state president G Kishan Reddy on Thursday stated that the Telangana State formation would not be possible with regional parties like the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
Addressing an election rally in Parkal Assembly constituency, Kishan Reddy said that the regional parties would be confined to the State and the demands like granting statehood for a region could be fulfilled by national parties like the BJP. “It is not possible for the TRS to achieve the Telangana State without the support of national parties,” he said.

Petition to probe YSR entire cabinet filed in Supreme Court

New Delhi, June.7 (NSS): One Sudhakara Reddy, a lawyer, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court
seeking investigation on the role of the entire cabinet of the AP government in issuing 26 controversial
GOs. He stated in this petition that it was the cabinet that had taken decision on the GOs which were

issued by six ministers.
It may be mentioned here that the Supreme Court on March 12 issued notices to six ministers
and eight IAS officers on the controversial GOs. CBI also started investigating about the role of these
ministers and officers.

HC REJECTS CBI PLEA FOR EXTENSION OF JAGAN’S CUSTODY

The CBI’s lunch motion seeking custody of YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for three more days was rejected by the High Court on Thursday.
The five-day custody of Jagan given by the High Court to the CBI ended on Thursday. As the CBI could not get any useful information from him in the disproportionate assets case, the investigating agency filed a lunch motion seeking his custody for three more days. However, the High Court has turned down CBI’s request.

Pakistani kills ex-girlfriend with hammer

A jobless Pakistani national bludgeoned his Filipina ex-girlfriend to death with a hammer after a split with the 37-year-old mother of his two-year-old daughter, a British court heard.

The court heard that 28-year-old Muhammed Niazi savagely murdered Charito Cruz in September 2011 after discovering she was flirting with an ex-boyfriend on Facebook.

He became depressed and asked police to deport him. But he was turned away and told to contact the Home Office, the Daily Mail reported.

Russia supports Iran’s peaceful n-programme: Putin

Russia supports Iran’s right to peaceful use of nuclear energy and is in constant contact with Tehran on nuclear issues, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday.

“We have always supported the Iranian people’s right to modern technology, including the peaceful use of atomic energy,” Putin told his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Beijing.

Russia is aware of Tehran’s position, “which is that Iran is not working on the development of nuclear weapons”, Putin said. “That is our assumption.”

14 killed, nearly 40 wounded in Pakistan blast

At least 14 people, including two children, were killed and around 40 injured Thursday in a bomb blast outside an Islamic seminary in Pakistan’s Quetta city, police said.

The blast at the Jamia Islamia Miftahul Uloom in Satellite Town area took place around 3 p.m. when a large number of people gathered for the annual degree and prize distribution ceremony, Deputy Inspector General Qazi Abdul Wahid was quoted as saying by Geo News.

Wahid said an unidentified militant had hidden explosive materials inside flower garlands brought for the ceremony.

Another explosion in Allahabad, five kids injured

Five children were injured Thursday when a bomb went off in a village in this Uttar Pradesh district — the second blast in about a fortnight, police said. All five are out of danger.

The children, residents of Ghoorpur village, were taking their cattle to graze when they spotted a “ball like object” and picked it up. Minutes later there was a deafening explosion in which Mausam Yadav, Sushma Yadav, Jyoti Yadav, Sashi Yadav and Ajay Singh — all aged between 7 and 12 were injured.

Zardari talks Afghanistan with Krishna

India and Pakistan Thursday briefly discussed Afghanistan when Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna spoke to Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit here, an official said.

Zardari asked Krishna about Indian investments in Afghanistan. Krishna replied that these were concentrated in the areas of health, education and capacity building, the official said.

While addressing the summit, Krishna had referred to the $2 billion that India has allocated for Afghanistan’s reconstruction.

Chidambaram hit by court ruling, opposition gunning for his head

The Madras High Court Thursday declined to dismiss a case against Home Minister P. Chidambaram for allegedly manipulating the 2009 elections in his Lok Sabha constituency, prompting the BJP and Tamil Nadu’s ruling AIADMK to demand his resignation.

In a clear setback to the minister, the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court gave the ruling in response to a petition challenging Chidambaram’s election from Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu.

‘Military rule prevailing in Andhra Pradesh’

Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy was running a “military” regime in Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress’s honorary president and Pulivendula MLA Y S Vijayamma alleged on Thursday.

Addressing roadside meetings at Rayachoty, Rajampeta and Kodur towns as a part of by-election campaign, she alleged that the investigation into the 2009 chopper crash, in which her husband and former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy died, failed to explain “two missing bullets” from the revolver of his security officer Vesli who also died in the crash.

Youth murdered over enmity

Unidentified assailants today murdered a youth in Pachperva area of this district.

Jokhu Yadav was sleeping in his house at Shankarpur vilage, when the miscreants attacked him with a knife. He
died on the spot, police stated.

Old rivalry was said to be the reason behind the crime,police added.

An investigation was on into the matter.

Karnataka officer’s murder case solved, four held: Police

Four people, including a cashier in a cooperative credit society in Bangalore, were arrested Thursday for the fatal attack on a Karnataka government officer known to have exposed scams in several such financial societies, police said.

S.P. Mahantesh, 48, was killed on a contract given by the cashier, Kiran Kumar, who feared that his misappropriation of the society’s cash would be exposed as the officer had begun auditing the accounts, Bangalore City Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothiprakash Mirji told reporters here.

CBI gets another month to probe Prajapati killing

The Supreme Court Thursday gave the Central Bureau of Investigation a month’s extension till June 30 to complete its probe into the killing of Tulsiram Prajapati in an alleged staged shoot-out case and file a charge sheet.

A bench of Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Justice J.S. Khehar granted the CBI’s request, after it was told that the investigating agency needed more time as there was a change of investigating officer and the new officer had to go through the records before the charge sheet was finalised.

The University of Salford, a British university, has offered scholarship for one Indian manager to study in its MBA programme.

The Global Leadership Scholarship is worth $24,981 and will allow its winner to pursue full-time resident MBA course in the university’s facility in MediaCity.

The candidates have to write an essay on “What does leadership mean to you and how can a Salford MBA help you contribute to global leadership?” The applicants should have an honours degree and three years of work experience. The deadline for application is June 22.
