Ahmedabad, February 01: After facing embarrassment over some party leaders’ praise of Narendra Modi, Congress today targeted the chief minister, likening his rule with that of the Nazis.

“The Nazis also built autobahns (German expressways) but what defined the Nazi regime wasn’t those autobahns. It was Auschwitz (concentration camp). It was Treblinka (extermination camp). It was ghettos (where jews were forced to live),” party spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters.

Tewari, however, hastened to add that he was not drawing any parallel.

Ahemadabad, February 01: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L K Advani has said there are no differences between party leaders in the running to elections in Uttar Pradesh.

“There are no differences within the party for the election campaign in Uttar Pradesh. It is not much of an issue. Everybody is going (there) as per own convenience. We have many campaigners. And we are optimistic about it,” Advani said.

Seven disillusioned Maoists surrender in Chattisgarh

Kanker, February 01: Denouncing violence and exploitation, seven Maoists surrendered before the police in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker District with the hope of turning over a new leaf with the help of the rehabilitation policy offered by the Central Government.

The Maoist cadres, including four men and three women vowed to start their life afresh before Superintendent of Police, Kanker, Rahul Bhagat and Inspector General of Police, T J Langkumer, on Monday.

Briefing media, Bhagat said the surrendered Maoists against being forced to indulge in were fed up with criminal activities.

Taslima’s book ‘Nirbasan’ launched amidst protest

New Delhi, February 01: Controversial writer Taslima Nasrin’s book ‘Nirbasan’ was finally launched under the open sky at the Kolkata Book Fair on Wednesday despite heavy protests from extremists.

Reports confirm that publishers launched the book outside in front of their stall in protest.

Taslima Nasrin tweeted, “The PBS publisher with friends has released my book under the open sky at Kolkata Book Fair. Book release in the AC hall was banned”.

11 Iranian pilgrims kidnapped in Syria

Tehran, February 01: The Iranian pilgrims were on their way to Damascus when they were abducted. No further details of the incident have surfaced yet.

This is not the first time that Iranians have become the target of abduction by unknown gunmen in Syria over the past months.

On January 26, a group of unidentified armed men attacked a bus carrying Iranian pilgrims on the road connecting Damascus to the northwestern city of Aleppo.

Cold weather kills 43 in Ukraine

Ukraine, February 01: The ministry said that most of the victims are homelesspeople who were found dead on the streets.

It noted that 13 people have died of cold only in the past 24 hours.

Hundreds of people also went to hospitals to receive medical help due to frostbite, hypothermia and other cold-related ailments.

More than 1,735 shelters have been set up to provide food and heat to homeless people, the ministry said.

Temperatures have plunged to minus 30 degrees Celsius (minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit) in some regions.

WikiLeak’s Assange extradition fight heads to UK Supreme Court

London February 01: WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s extradition fight goes to Britain’s Supreme Court on Wednesday for two days of hearings on whether he should be sent back to Sweden to face allegations of rape and sexual assault.

In November, Assange — who is under house arrest — lost a court battle to stay in Britain. The following month, the British High Court said he would be allowed to mount an appeal.

Assange’s lawyers have vowed to take the fight all the way to the European Court of Human Rights if necessary.

The Somali militant group Al-Shabaab

Mogadishu, February 01: The Somali militant group Al-Shabaab says it has banned the International Committee of the Red Cross from operating in the regions it controls, accusing the organization of distributing expired food.

In a statement on Twitter Monday the group said it “has decided to terminate the contract of #ICRC permanently… Following the repeated distribution of expired food and false accusations,” that the organization is hindering food distribution.

Police in search of Kunduz man in Afghanisthan

Kabul, February 01: Police in the northern Afghanistan province of Kunduz are looking for a man they say strangled his wife after she bore him a third child that was not a son.

Sher Mohammed, 29, married his 22-year-old wife, Storay, four years ago, police said.

The couple had three daughters, the last of whom was born three months ago, said Khanabad district police chief Sufi Habib.

After the youngest daughter was born, Mohammed blamed his wife for not being able to deliver a boy, Habib said.

Heavy police posse at Gandhi hospital

Hyderabad, February 01: Heavy police posse was posted at the Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad, as tension prevailed on the eighth day of the junior doctors’ strike. As the medicos called for “Chalo Hyderabad”, their colleagues from various parts of the State, started pouring into the city.

Sensing trouble, police have closed the gates of Gandhi Hospital.

Addressing the media, junior doctors said that a heavy posse of police force and their trucks surrounded the hospital. They said that they failed to understand why police were over-reacting to their peaceful agitation.

Body found in Renigunta was not Bhanu’s

Tirupati, February 01: There was confusion when a dead body found in the Agraharam tank at Renugunta was suspected to be that of Bhanu Kiran, prime accused in the murder of Maddelacheruvu Suri.

However, police said that it might not be Bhanu’s. CID officials said measurements of the body did not match Bhanu’s and even by looks, it did not resemble the accused. They, however, said they were trying to match the moles and height of the body with Bhanu’s known description.

Ahmedabad, February 01: The Gujarat high court rejected an application seeking direction to the Nanavati commission to summon chief minister Narendra Modi and question him in regard with the 2002 riots.

A division bench of justices Akil Kureshi and Sonia Gokani upheld a single judge’s order passed in November 2009, and observed that the issue of summoning any person was the discretion of the quasi-judicial body, which could take decision on the basis of its appreciation of evidence gathered during the proceedings.

Sharjah police officer risks life to rescue 9-year-old girl from rape

Sharjah, February 01: A police officer in Sharjah risked his life to save a nine-year-old girl from a man who was about to rape her in a deserted house after snatching her just in front of her home. Four hours later, police said they caught the man who they described as a “barbarous criminal.”

The unnamed man had taken the girl to an abandoned house but apparently had not realized a police officer lives nearby, Emirat Alyoum daily said.

Hyderabad, February 1: Bahadurpura police has arrested the son who brutally killed his mother and sent him to judicial custody. Inspector Bahadurpura Mr. Biksham Reddy told that Aleem was arrested on the basis of suspicion and he has accepted his crime.

According to police Aleem had 2 wives. The first wife left him 6 years ago and the 2nd wife left him two years ago.

Aleem was a drunkard and of hysterical nature. He used to immolate himself to harass and scare his wife. Nearly 100 wound marks were found on his body according to inspector.

RGI airport gets first place in pvt. Institutions
