Wakf problems represented to CM

Hyderabad, February 01: Chairman of AP State Wakf Board, Maulana Khusro Pasha along with the Minister of Minorities welfare met the CM of AP Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and apprised him of the problems faced by Wakf Board.

Talking to newsmen, the Chairman said that he made a representation to CM for filling up vacant posts in Wakf Board, introduction of pension scheme for its employees and enhancement of Govt. grant. He said that at present Wakf Board is left with 169 employees.

Eight Information Commissioners appointed

Hyderabad, February 01: At last after delay of 14 months, Govt. appointed eight information commissions. A meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy CM of A.P. to finalize the names of the information commissioners which was attended by leader of opposition Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, Dy. CM Mr. Raja Narasimha, Chief Secretary Mr. Pankaj Dwivedi and other higher officials. The committee finalized eight names for appointments as Information Commissioners. They are Mr. C. Madhukar Raj, Former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Mr. S.

Programme on Rushdie cancelled

Hyderabad, February 01: A programme was scheduled to be held on “Freedom of Speech” on 1st February at Urdu Hall, Himayathnagar in support of Salman Rushdie.

As soon as the news spread, Mr. Amjadullah Khan Khalid, Corporatory of MBT represented to Home Dept. successfully and got it cancelled. It was planned by some intellectuals and professors of the city. Police started searching the organizers. Mr. Khalid represented to the Govt. that if any programme is organized to support the ideology of Salman Rushdie, Muslims would launch agitation.

Waqf building lease scandal: IRC gives clarification

Hyderabad, February 1: President Al-mahd lil Jous al Islamia Islamic Research Centre, Mohammad Mahboob Aalam Ashrafi told that the waqf board has given only 298.97 sqyd land on rent to the research centre, from the 400 sqyd waqf land at Kattalmandi Abids. He clarified that the board has not allotted the entire 400 sqyd land to research centre.

Previous year’s tenants of the building have handed over the building to the Islamic research centre, impressed by its aims and objectives, and the building is under the use and possession of the centre for the past two years.

Unpalatable food provided for mid-day meal

Hyderabad, February 1: Mid-day meals were started by the state government with the following objectives; to avoid classroom hunger, to increase school enrolment, to increase school attendance, to address malnutrition, etc.

This mid-day meal scheme started off as an incentive to coax parents of economically underprivileged backgrounds to send their children to school, but having a few morsels, we can vouch for the fact that the meal served provides a pretty good reason to bunk.

3 forces maid into prostitution

Dubai, February 01: Three Bangladeshi men stood trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday for allegedly forcing a maid into prostitution.

The trio – HRA, 34, tailor; ARS, 26, electrician; and SAA, 31, painter – are accused, along with others who are still at large, of human trafficking and running a brothel in Hor Al Anz area.

The victim, 36-year-old Indonesian, said that she was working for an African family when she happened to meet a Bangladeshi woman, Salma. When she poured out her grievances to her, Salma encouraged her to run away from her employer.

Vidya, Veena, Poonam nude paintings destroyed

Mumbai, February 01: Painter Pranava Prakash was attacked at a gallery in Delhi (India), where he was exhibiting a number of nude paintings of Bollywood actress Vidya Balan, Veena Malik and Poonam Pandey.

Five unknown men, miffed with the paintings put on show at a gallery, assaulted the artist.

The miscreants reportedly were heard saying that the paintings were “against Indian culture” they then stormed in and destroyed the art work.

Bent on laptops, spondylitis afflicting India’s young

New Delhi, February 01: Shweta Arya was 29 years old when she first had a back problem. Ignored initially, her pain spread upwards and aggravated to a level where she was not even able to move her neck.

“Employed with an infrastructure consultancy, I used to work on a laptop with a bent neck. The back pain went on increasing and finally my situation was so bad that I could not even move my neck,” she said.

Baby abandoned on train

Kolkata, February 01: Even as the nation remains shocked over the condition of Falak, the battered two-year-old girl battling for life in a Delhi hospital, a six-month-old baby girl was found abandoned on a Kolkata-bound train.

As per reports Wednesday, the innocent angel was found lying unattended in a coach of the Udyan Abha Toofan Express when the train reached Chittaranjan station in West Bengal.

She was handed over to the railway police at Asansol, which in turn took the baby to a local NGO.

The baby would be produced in a local court today.

Vadodara, February 01: AT 65, women of her age enjoy the bliss of playing with their grandchildren. But for Vadodara’s Raju Ben this Republic Day brought the joys of motherhood for the first time after 40 years.

Raju and her retired police constable husband Hawa Singh, 68, suffered the agony of being childless for four decades after their marriage during which time she suffered four miscarriages.

She had to undergo multiple surgeries on her tubes and uterus because of tuberculosis and ovarian cysts making it all the more difficult for her to conceive.

10 people killed in Karachi in sectarian violence

Karachi, February 01: In a renewed wave of sectarian and ethnic killings in Pakistan, at least 10 people were killed in the last 24 hours in southern Sind’s provincial capital, the police said Tuesday.

Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan said 10 people had been killed since Monday and admitted some of the target killings appeared to be because of sectarian disputes.

Security has been beefed up and a ban has been imposed on pillion riding in the city as a precautionary measure, he told a press conference here.

13/7 blasts: Maha ATS arrests fourth accused

Mumbai, February 01: Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested yet another accused in connection with the 13/7 Mumbai blasts case. The accused, identified as Kanwal Wazirchand Pathrija is the fourth arrest in the case. Pathreja, 42, was arrested on Monday night from Delhi. ATS sources informed that he supplied Rs 10 Lakh to Yasin Bhattkal, the main accused of 13/7 blasts.

Pathrija, who was running a jewelley shop in Chandni Chowk, had reportedly worked with the Hawala racket as well.

Water Board, GHMC chiefs caught off guard

Hyderabad, February 01: Managing Director of the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board Adhar Sinha announced that all pending and ongoing pipeline works in Greater Hyderabad region, 1,100 in number, will be taken up soon and finished by March ending.

He declared this at the Ranga Reddy District Review Committee meeting on Tuesday, which was dominated by discussions about acute drinking water scarcity and lack of supply infrastructure.

Six Assembly seats by-poll: TRS on shaky ground

Hyderabad, February 01: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) appears to be on a shaky ground in the run-up to the impending by-elections to six assembly seats in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh.

Contrary to expectations that it would ride high on the so-called ‘Telangana sentiment’ in the by-polls, the TRS may have lost a lot of ground in the last few months after the statehood movement remained paralysed, obervers say.

Adding to its woes is the strong antagonism being faced by at least two of its probable candidates in their respective segments where by-elections are due.
