Azamgarh tense after student’s death in accident

Lucknow, November 04: A mob fought pitched battles with police and resorted to arson and vandalism in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district Friday after a school student was mowed down by a private bus, police said.

Vipin Kumar, 14, was crushed to death by the speeding bus in Aaho Patti area while going to school.

“Agitated over the accident, locals in large numbers indulged in heavy brick batting, torched the private bus and damaged some private vehicles,” Superintendent of Police (City) Ashok Kumar told reporters in Azamgarh, some 300 km from Lucknow.

October sees 10% dip in hiring employees

Hyderabad, November 04: Signs of the economic slow down may be dropping hints as the city witnessed a 10% decline in recruitment in the month of October when compared to the previous month. The Naukri Job Speak Index stated that all key industry sectors and functional areas of the city have witnessed dips in their hiring activity.

Added to the possible global slow down, the index cited that the double digit percentage dip in hiring could be attributed to the festive season spanning across October. But they also said that the Oct-11 index at 997 is 7% higher than the Oct-10 index.

Kanimozhi to appeal for bail in high court today

Delhi, November: DMK MP Kanimozhi will appeal in the High Court today for bail in the 2G scam case. Yesterday, a CBI court in Delhi had dismissed her bail plea along with that of seven other accused.

The court’s decision stunned many as the odds were in favour of her getting bail after more than five months in prison for her alleged role in the telecom scam.

The CBI, which had contested three earlier bail applications for her, had said a few weeks ago that this time around, it has no objections to her leaving prison.

Drive against drunken driving starts from today

Hyderabad, November 04: It’s time for motorists to rethink about driving after downing a peg or two. The traffic police’s drive against drunken driving will start from Friday. Unlike in previous such initiatives, when drunken drivers were penalised and let off, police will be hauled off to drivers from now on.

Announcing the spirited drive, additional commissioner of police (traffic) CV Anand said drunken drivers will be booked under Section 185 (a) of the Motor Vehicle Act and produced in court on the very next working day.

Teacher made 11-yr old to do 200 sit-ups

Hyderabad, November 04: A mathematics teacher was assaulted by the parents and relatives of a student for beating the boy and making him do 200 sit-ups at the Bhashyam Public School in Attapur.

The teacher, D Sudhakar, had allegedly forced Sai Pranay, a student of Class VIII, to do 200 sit-ups for not paying attention in class and failing to complete his work on Tuesday. Sai Pranay, whose legs were swollen as a result, complained to his parents.

Police seeks to question Hasan Ali

Hyderabad, November 04: City Police is seeking to question Pune-based businessman Hasan Ali Khan in connection with a case in which he is accused of procuring a fake passport from the city.

“We need to interrogate Hasan Ali Khan on charges of obtaining a passport from here by fraudulent means. We have definite evidence against him and have filed an application for a prisoners transit warrant in a court here to bring him from Mumbai,” Hyderabad Police Commissioner AK Khan told reporters here.

London, November 04: Russian strong-man Vladimir Putin has been accused of being a “wife-beater and a philanderer” by German spies when he worked as a KGB agent in the German city of Dresden, a leading German paper reported.

89,000 illegal pilgrims returned

Makkah, November 04: The Passport Department has sent back 89,000 people who were traveling to Makkah without Haj permit.

The passport officials also arrested 1,600 overstayers and those who violated residence regulations or attempting to sneak in with forged permits, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.

There are 16 passport checkpoints around Makkah and four in Madinah region.

Rammohan Rao allowed the Govt. of A.P. to go ahead with the process of the appointments of vice chancellors of various state Universities in A.P. The division Bench vacated the stay order of a single judge who had interdicted the process of the appointment of search committees for suggesting a panel for the appointment of Vice Chancellors. Mr. B. Srikanth had filed a writ petition complaining that the appointment of Vice Chancellors was not as per the rules.

Funds released for ‘Rajeev Yuva Karnalu’ Programme

New Delhi, November 04: India’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, regarded as Iron Man of India, had told the them prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru that the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi was not result of any conspiracy by RSS, but by a section of the Hindu Mahasabha, Media reported today.

Previously unpublished correspondence between the two leaders reveals that Patel was miffed over orders being issued by the prime minister “in matters which fall within my departmental responsibility”.

Notification for Sub-Inspectors’ posts issued

Hyderabad, November 04: The State Government on Thursday issued notification for the recruitment of sub-inspectors in the Police department.

As many as 1,238 men would be recruited as Sub-Inspectors under Civil posts in the Police Department; 306 in Armed Reserved; 10 in SAR CPL; 406 in the Andhra Pradesh Special Police and 17 in the 15th Battalion of APSP and 68 men would be recruited as sub-inspectors in Special Protection Force. In addition, 21 men would be recruited as Station Fire Officers in the AP Fire and Emergency Services Department.

CBI to quiz Jagan Mohan Reddy today

Hyderabad, November 04: YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, son of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, would appear before the CBI for questioning on Friday in connection with alleged multi-crore iron ore mining scam.

Jagan Mohan, MP from Kadapa, is under the agency’s scanner over his alleged nexus with Janardhana Reddy, whose company Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) has been accused of violating mining norms in the Ananthpuram disctrict of Andhra Pradesh. He will have to present himself at the CBI office today.

Four killed, 57 trapped in China coal mine rock blast

Beijing, November 04: A sudden explosion of rock in a coal mine in central China following a small earthquake killed four miners and trapped 57 others, a state news agency reported on Friday.

The accident in the coal mine in the city of Sanmenxia in Henan province occurred Thursday evening when 75 miners were working in the shaft, the official Xinhua News Agency said. Fourteen workers escaped.

The Qianqiu Coal Mine belongs to Yima Coal Group, a large state-owned coal company in Henan, the State Administration of Work Safety said on its website.

Fire at naval dockyard building

Mumbai, November 04: A major fire destroyed the second floor of the main administrative building at the high-security naval dockyard here on Thursday evening. A part of the heritage building constructed in 1807 was also gutted.

“There are no injuries or casualties. The fire was due to short circuit. It is under control now,” Narendrakumar Vispute, Public Relations Officer, Defence, told reporters outside Lion Gate of the Naval Dockyard, against the backdrop of the rising smoke and billowing flames.

San Barnardino, November 04: On a warm Thursday morning outside the John M. Pfau Library at Cal State San Bernardino, 24-year-old psychology student Gina Cuellar waited for her study partner.

Other young women passed by her, many wearing blue jeans and boots. Cuellar wasn’t hard to spot.

A recent convert to Islam, she sported a hot pink head scarf known as a hijab, with her sunglasses propped on top.

“I think God watches over me whenever I wear it,” she said. “You get blessings.”

Veena Malik detained at Mumbai airport

Mumbai, November 04: Veena Malik was detained at the Mumbai airport on Wednesday for evasion of customs duty, according to news reports.

Veena, a Pakistani national, was reportedly found to be carrying undeclared dutiable goods worth `40,000 to `50,000. Reports said the actress was let off after paying a fine of `10,000. Veena is the second Pakistani artiste to have been penalised.

Earlier this year, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was detained for carrying unaccounted foreign currency while leaving Mumbai.
