Advani’s yatra to enter Gujarat today, Modi to welcome him

Daman, November 06: After reportedly being denied permission by Chief Minister Narendra Modi to begin his ambitious Jan Chetna Yatra from the state, senior BJP leader L K Advani will today enter Gujarat on the last leg of his tour.

Mr Advani will be welcomed by Chief Minister Narendra Modi who will be accompanying the saffron veteran for the next two days as the yatra passes through the state.

Gali’s wife comes under CBI scanner now

Banglore, November 06: Two months after the arrest of mining baron and former Karnataka minister G. Janardhana Reddy on charges of illegal mining, a formal probe into the role of his wife Aruna Lakshmi in the scandal began Saturday.

The Central Bureau of Investigation, which arrested Reddy Sep 5, Saturday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Aruna Lakshmi, a requirement under law to begin formal investigation in a case, agency sources said.

Police end Congress Telangana leader’s hunger strike

Hyderabad, November 06: Congress leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s indefinite hunger strike for separate statehood to Telangana was forcibly ended by the police in Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh early Sunday.

As the condition of the legislator and former minister deteriorated on the sixth day of the fast, the police lifted him from the hunger strike camp in Nalgonda town and shifted him to a local government hospital. His supporters tried to resist the police attempt but were made to disperse.

Newborn kidnapped from Malakpet area hospital

Hyderabad, November 6: In an incident which created flutter at Malakpet last night an unknown woman kidnapped a 10 hours old newborn baby. Tension prevailed in the area when the relatives of the newborn staged protest against the negligence of hospital administration. It is said that Mohammad Feroz Qureshi resident of Aman Nagar brought his wife to the hospital. The doctors admitted the wife and at almost 1 o’clock in the afternoon Mahboob Bi gave birth to a baby boy. Till she could regain consciousness her baby had been kidnapped.

Acquire specialized expertise: Chidambaram

Hyderabad, November 06: Union Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram asked the I.P.S probationers of National Police Academy to acquire specialized skills training to combat specific crimes including maintenance of law and order and intelligence services.

He said that the Home Ministry has a proposal to impart specialized training to senior police officers who have put in 18-20 years service to deal with special nature of crimes. Hyderabad, November 06: Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy C.M. of A.P. told the district collectors to complete the given target by the end of December 2011 for Rajiv Yuva Karnalu programme for the recruitment of unemployed youths.

He advised them to register the names of eligible candidates on priority basis. The collectors have been assigned the task of selecting the training centers to train unemployed youths. Pak ties with India improving: Hina Rabbani Khar

Islamabad, November 06: Pakistan’s most troubled foreign relationships have improved in recent months, its top diplomat said on Saturday, pointing to upcoming trade talks with New Delhi and broad agreement on regional security goals with Washington as evidence.

Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, in an interview with Reuters, said negotiations to normalise trade with India would allow progress on other issues between the two nuclear-armed South Asian rivals.

“I think it’s broadly agreed that we need to make some simultaneous progress on these issues,” she said.

CBI raids hospitals in Lucknow

Lucknow, November 06: The CBI on Saturday carried out raids at several private and voluntary organisation-run hospitals in the city, official sources said here.

The raids were conducted at around 10 eye hospitals by a CBI team from Delhi, in connection with alleged irregularities in National Rural Health Mission funds, they said.

Anna dares govt to go ahead with phone tapping

New Delhi, November 06: The tension between Team Anna and the government has escalated with the anti-corruption activist, Anna Hazare, daring the government to go ahead with tapping the phones of his team members.

“I know our phones are being tapped, but we are not doing anything wrong, if they want to tape our phones let them do it,” Anna has been quoted as saying by a news channel.

In the meantime, Team Anna members have asked the Home Ministry if any sort of permission was granted to any agency to tap their phones.
