Woman takes up prostitution for hubby

Chennai, November 10: A woman was forced to take up prostitution at the age of 26 for her husband when he was badly injured in a road accident and needed money for treatment.

P Lata narrates the circumstances that made her enter this unfortunate profession. Lata had got married at the age of 18 to her boyfriend, who was welder by profession. She worked as a security guard in a Chennai city hospital for a monthly salary of Rs 3000. With two small children and a husband who was getting addicted to drugs, Lata was left to fend for herself.

Pak is making use of you, Modi tells Chinese leaders

Beijing, November 10: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi today told top Chinese leaders that Pakistan had been making use of them for its own ends.

He raised the issue of presence of Chinese troops in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir during his talks with Communist Party leaders in Beijing, Times of India reported.

“I told them – whatever your intentions, Pakistan is making use of you,” Modi said after his meeting with three Chinese leaders including Wang Gang, a politburo member of the Communist Party of China and vice-chairman of the China People’s Consultative Conference.

China’s No. 1 Target Is US, Next Is India: Bush

Mumbai, November 10: Former US president George W Bush on Tuesday said the United States was “China’s target number one, and next is India”.

Speaking to a group of select CEOs at a later dinner meet here on tuesday, Bush delivered a blunt warning to Indians about the intentions of China.

Bush said his country’s patience with Pakistan was wearing thin, reports Times of India.

“If the US had not befriended Pakistan, Pakistan would have become more dangerous. But now US patience is wearing off,” he said.

Naidu threatens of farmers’ revolt

Vijayawada, November 10: Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday stated that the hapless farmers in the State would soon revolt against the indifferent State Government.

Talking to media persons before proceeding to Khammam district from Vijayawada as a part of Rythu Poru padyatra, Chandrababu Naidu expressed serious concern over the pathetic condition of farmers in the state. Quality of education in India remains poor: World Bank

Doha, November 11: Though India is enrolling more students in schools and colleges, the quality of education in the country remains poor, a top World Bank official said.

“It’s not enough that you are putting more children into schools and colleges each year, you will have to bring them at par with international standard,” World Bank Director Education Elizabeth M King told PTI on the sidelines of World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) here.

King said the World Bank expects India to have ambitions to compete with the best in the world.

Saudi girl lures rapists into police trap

Riyadh, November 09: Three Saudi men who kidnapped and raped a girl later found themselves in police grip after they were lured into a snare by the victim herself.

The three had snatched off the Saudi girl as she walked back home from work in the eastern province of Ihsa. They bundled her in their car, drove to a deserted farm and took turns in raping her.

Acting on police instructions, the girl called them a few days later and said she would like to be with them again.

Over 100 hitmen arrested in Karachi: Malik

Islamabad, November 09: More than 100 hitmen have been arrested in the Pakistani port city of Karachi and all of them admitted to their crimes. This has led to the restoration of peace in the city, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said.

The minister said on Tuesday an investigation team was going to be constituted to probe the alleged networks of banned outfits operating from jails.

Hundreds of people in karachi, Pakistan’s major business hub, have died this year in ethic violence.

New Delhi, November 09: Taking on Team Anna, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday broke her silence on the issue of graft, saying corruption cannot be fought by speeches.

In her speech which was read out to the crowd by Defence Minister AK Antony, she said that corruption cannot be fought by speeches.

“Corruption cannot be fought by speeches, so I don’t understand why this noise,” Sonia said in her speech which was read out at Karanprayag rally in Uttrakhand as she was unable to attend it.

32 convicted in Gujarat riot case

Mehsana, November 09: A special court in Gujarat has convicted 32 people out of 73 accused in one of the nine Gujarat riots cases of 2002. The court in Mehsana delivered the judgement on Wednesday in the Sardarpura riot case in which 33 people were burnt alive in Sadarpura March 1, 2002.

The charges against those convicted included murder, arson and rioting.

But the court also acquitted 41 people accused of being involved in the case. The quantum of sentence will be announced later.

Sonia unwell, not going for Uttrakhand rally

New Delhi, November 09: UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is not going for the Uttrakhand rally as she is suffering from viral fever.

“The Congress President is suffering from fever. Her visit to Uttarakhand has been cancelled,” AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi said.

Besides addressing the rally, Gandhi was also expected to lay the foundation stone for the much-delayed Rishikesh-Karanprayag rail project at Gauchar in Chamoli district.

Congress sources said that Gandhi’s speech would be read out at the rally venue at Gauchar.
