Cabinet to take up Aviation Authority Draft bill

New Delhi, November 17: A draft bill to set up a powerful Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for better regulation of the aviation sector is in an advanced stage of getting the official nod, official sources said on Thursday.

“A draft legislation has been prepared. It is currently being vetted by the Law Ministry. After this, it will be taken up by the Union Cabinet for approval before it is placed in Parliament,” the sources said here.

PM to visit Russia on December 16

Moscow, November 17: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will arrive here on December 16 to attend the annual Indo-Russian summit.

The announcement was made by External Affairs Minister SM Krishna, who arrived here today on a three-day visit to finalise political and economic agenda of the summit.

Krishna met his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov and is understood to have discussed key regional and global issues including the situation in Afghanistan, West Asia and Syria.

BJP MPs framed in cash-for-vote case: Gadkari

Ayodhya, November 17: BJP national president Nitin Gadkari on Thursday claimed that the party MPs were being “framed” in the cash for vote case and they were innocent.

He alleged that the UPA was responsible for the scam. “I can’t say whether Prime Minister Manmohan Singh knows or not,” he told reporters on the sidelines of party’s Vijay Sankalp Samagam here.

“Our MPs are being framed in the case and they are innocent,” he added.

In reply to a question, the BJP president said that the party’s issue was that of Ram Raj.

Corrupt people made PM helpless: Ramdev

Allahabad, November 17: Sharpening his attack on the Congress-led central government on the black money issue, yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Thursday termed Manmohan Singh “a helpless prime minister who is surrounded by corrupt people”.

“There is a strong prime minister, and a helpless one,” Ramdev said at a press conference here, 200 km from Lucknow.

Though Manmohan Singh is personally very honest, he has been made helpless by the groups of corrupt people around him, the yoga guru said.

Man held for planning to attack Advani

Chandigarh, November 17: A man has been detained here for allegedly planning an attack on L.K. Advani during the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader’s Jan Chetna Yatra, police said Thursday.

“We have taken a person into custody. We are investigating the matter,” Chandigarh senior superintendent of police Naunihal Singh said here Thursday.

Naveen Patnaik injured

Bhubaneswar, November 17: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle after slipping and falling near his residence here Thursday, an official said.

“He slipped near the gate in Naveen Nivas at about 6.45 a.m. during his morning walk,” a senior official at the chief minister office’s told facenfacts.

“Doctors checked him and the X-ray revealed that a ligament in his right ankle has been affected,” he said.

Top Andhra official appears before CBI

Hyderabad, November 17: A top bureaucrat of the Andhra Pradesh government Thursday appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) amid speculation that she may be arrested in the illegal mining case involving the mining company of former Karnataka minister G. Janardhana Reddy.

After remaining elusive for the last few days, Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official Y. Srilakshmi, who figures as accused number four in the case, reached the CBI office at Koti.

The CBI officials began questioning her. Officials said the questioning may continue till evening.
