Lahore, November 30: Kot Lakhpat police on Tuesday registered a case against a private school principal on charges of raping his 10-year-old student.

The accused, identified as Shahbaz, is still at large.

Labourer electrocuted: A 25-year-old labourer was electrocuted in Johar Town police precincts on Tuesday.

The deceased, Muhammad Akhtar, a resident of Dipalpura, worked in a marble factory located at 316-Canal Road. He was busy in his work when he touched a live wire. As a result, he received a serious electric shock and burns.

Arrested IAS officer turns witness, leads mining trail to YSR

Hyderabad, November 30: IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, who was arrested in the Gali Janardhana Reddy illegal mining case on Monday, has agreed to become a witness in the case.

Accused of favouring Gali’s Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) by overlooking other bidders for giving mining licences in Anantapuram district, Srilakshmi is learnt to have told the CBI that former minister for mines and geology P Sabita Indra Reddy, who is Home Minister now, pressured her to sign and even “speed up the files” for allotting 68 hectares and later 32 hectares land to OMC for mining.

Jackson doctor pay more than $US100 million and sentenced four years jail

Los Angeles, November 30: Murray was convicted on November 7 of injecting the overdose of the anesthetic propofol that killed the 50-year-old pop icon in his rented Los Angeles mansion on June 25, 2009. A 12-person jury unanimously found him guilty following a six-week trial.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor handed down the maximum penalty for the felony conviction.

In a statement issued before the sentence was handed down, Jackson’s family said that they were seeking justice, not revenge, by asking Judge Pastor to impose the maximum punishment.

CBI giving communal touch to Sohrabuddin case: Guj

New Delhi, November 30: Gujarat government on Tuesday alleged before the Supreme Court that CBI is trying to give a communal touch to Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter killing case to get the trial transferred outside the state.

The state government brushed aside the contentions of the agency which pleaded that trial of the case should be transferred as there is a “surcharged” atmosphere in the state with communal feeling” regarding the case.

54 YO man charges for taking nude photos of women with hidden camera

Oak Creek, November 30: A 54-year-old Oak Creek man is facing charges after he allegedly placed hidden cameras in his home and filmed two women without their knowledge.

Gary Millard was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Friday with one count of capturing an image of nudity without consent and one count of possession of recorded nudity without consent. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison and $20,000 in fines.

Egypt poll counting: Islamists expect gains

Cairo, November 30: The Muslim Brotherhood said the Parliament that emerges from Egypt’s landmark elections should form a government, setting the stage for possible confrontation between Islamists and the ruling generals who have only just named a new prime minister.

The results of the first phase of the three-stage poll which could bring the Muslim Brotherhood closer to power were due to start coming out on Wednesday, but the military council which took over from ousted President Hosni Mubarak has yet to step aside.

Gujarat ATS Has Been Discredited: SC

Ahmedabad, November 30: Gujarat Police today got a flak from the Supreme Court which said the state’s anti-terrorist squad (ATS) responsible for the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter killing case has been “discredited”.

“Your (Gujarat) ATS stands so discredited,” said a bench comprising justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai.

The remarks came when Gujarat government was countering CBI’s theory that Popular Builders firing case of 2004 in Navrangpura area in Ahmedabad was stage-managed to create a case against Sohrabuddin before eliminating him.

Anna Threatens Fast on Dec 11, Dharna From Dec 27

New Delhi, November 30: Putting the government on notice on Lokpal issue, Anna Hazare today threatened to go on an indefinite fast in Delhi from December 27 while terming that the draft report by Parliamentary Standing Committee as a “betrayal” of countrymen.

Hazare said he did want the government to “make a fool of us” on the issue. Hazare also announced that he will sit on a one-day fast in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on December 11.

FDI Deadlock Despite PM’s Defence

New Delhi, November 30: The deadlock on FDI in retail showed no signs of resolution today with government not yielding to the opposition demand for rollback and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh going a step further by strongly justifying the move.

Even as the Prime Minister put up a defence of the decision, it came under attack from a Congress MP who said that it would hurt the poor, traders, hawkers and farmers and demanded a rethink on it.

Patna, November 30: BJP leader Uma Bharti today said that Janta Party president Subramanian Swami was prime ministerial material, but clarified that it was her personal opinion.

Ishrat case: Court warns IPS officer for not appearing

New Delhi, November 30: Indian Police Service officer G L Singhal, prime suspect in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, has been issued a warning by a court hearing the Naroda Patiya riot case after he failed to appear before it despite summons.

Singhal, currently Kheda SP, was investigation officer of the Naroda Patiya case for two years, when he was serving as DySP with the city crime branch after the riots in 2002.

He was summoned to appear before special judge Jyotsna Yagnik on Monday but he remained absent and sent a report that he was having health issues.

Petrol in India costlier than in US

New Delhi, November 30: Petrol in India is costlier than in its neighbouring countries and in the US, primarily because of high taxes.

Petrol in Delhi today costs Rs 66.42 per litre as against Rs 44.88 a litre price in the US, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas R P N Singh told Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question.

Even after the November 16 reduction of Rs 2.22 per litre in rates, petrol at Rs 66.42 a litre in Delhi is costlier than Rs 48.64 a litre in Pakistan.

Krishna calls for fast-tracking passport delivery

New Delhi, November 30: Amid unending complaints about delays in issuing passports, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna Tuesday urged officers to develop a “good working relationship” with police so as to issue passports promptly to citizens.

Woman claims 13-year affair with U.S. presidential

Atlanta, November 30: An Atlanta woman came forward on Monday evening to claim she had a 13-year-long affair with Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain, just weeks after a series of claims regarding sexual harassment. Cain has denied the latest allegations.

The woman, 46-year-old Ginger White, made her allegations in an exclusive interview with WAGA-TV in Atlanta. She said her off-and-on affair with the presidential candidate ended about eight months ago, just before Cain announced he is running for the White House.

6 UK embassy staff taken hostage in Iran

Tehran, November 30: Six British embassy personnel in Iran were taken hostage Tuesday when student protesters broke into the British Council and the British embassy here.

A large number of students were staging a noisy protest at both places to denounce what they said was Britain’s hostility to Iran.

Some 100 of them forced their way into the British Council building and took six staffers hostage, Xinhua reported. It did give their nationality.

A similar protest saw a similar invasion by students earlier at the British embassy in central Tehran.

Doctor molests minor during check-up

New Delhi, November 30: A doctor has been arrested for molesting a girl here during a medical check-up, police said Tuesday.

The victim, a Class VI student of a government school and a resident of Palam in south Delhi, had Monday afternoon gone for a check-up at a clinic where Harpal Singh, in his 40s, misbehaved with her.

He was arrested after the girl’s parents lodged a police complaint.

Singh, from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, was staying at Sangam Vihar in south Delhi.

Iranian hard-liners storm UK Embassy, residential compound (With Pic)

Tehran, November 30: Iranian protesters briefly took six British embassy staff hostage yesterday when they stormed two diplomatic compounds in Tehran, smashing windows, hurling petrol bombs and burning the British flag in a protest against sanctions imposed by Britain.

Calling the attack “outrageous and indefensible,” British Prime Minister David Cameron said that Iran’s failure to defend the embassy and its staff was a disgrace and would have “serious consequences.”

‘US used nukes on Iraq, Afghanistan’

Kabul, November 29: “Tactical nuclear weapons were used, at least one in Iraq and several were used in Afghanistan –in the Tora Bora mountains,” Peter Eyre, a Middle East consultant, said.

Eyre pointed out that the atomic bomb dropped on Afghanistan’s Tora Bora region was so powerful that it actually created an earthquake there.

The analyst went on to say that the use of such lethal weapons by US military, which is a gross violation of the Geneva Convention, has been sanctioned by the US presidents; thus they should be prosecuted for war crimes.

Four arms suppliers held in Jharkhand

Ranchi, November 29: Four arms suppliers were arrested and 5,000 detonators seized from them in Giridih district of Jharkhand Tuesday, police said.

The four were intercepted while travelling in a car near Jogia hill in Giridih, some 190 km from here, a police officer said.

The detonators, hidden in the car’s boot, could have been meant for Maoists.
