Hyderabad, July 02: Congress MP JD Seelam’s remarks at a seminar on Dalit Christians here on Friday that the state government has been neglecting Christians made chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy seeth with anger.
Seelam alleged that even during YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s regime Dalit Christians were neglected.
Kiran Kumar Reddy termed Seelam’s remarks as ‘unfair’ and said that his government was committed to the welfare of Christians and other minorities.

TJAC to submit memo to President on Telangana

Hyderabad, July 02: Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) has reiterated its stand saying that they were not ready to accept any alternative proposals other than separate state for Telangana.
The TJAC steering committee met here at TNGO Bhavan on Friday under the leadership of Professor M Kodandaram.
The meeting discussed the ongoing political developments in Delhi and Hyderabad and decided to lead a delegation to Delhi before July 10 and submit a memorandum to President Pratibha Patil on the Telangana issue.

Congress cool to Telangana leaders’ deadline

Hyderabad, July 02: In what is clearly a face-saving exercise, Congress MLAs and MPs from Telangana threatened to resign by July 4 if there’s no positive decision on T statehood by then. But the party high command doesn’t appear rattled.
Within hours after the elected representatives handed out the threat, AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is camping in Hyderabad, advised his partymen not to resort to such hasty steps.
In Delhi, Cong res s spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi ruled out the possibility of any crisis in Andhra Pradesh in the face of the latest T tremor.

Chiru’s Union Cabinet entry may be delayed

Hyderabad, July 02: All-India Congress Committee general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday dropped hints that Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi may not be accommodated in the Union cabinet in the next round of reshuffle.
Chiranjeevi will have to wait for some more time to become an MP and then only he would be inducted in the Union Cabinet, Azad reportedly informed Chiranjeevi.
He met Chiranjeevi at his residence along with APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana and deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarsimha.

Telangana Congressmen set July 4 to quit

Hyderabad, July 2: In a show of proof that they are not for power or pelf but for statehood to the region, Telangana Congress public representatives decided on Friday to resign from their positions and submit letters to the authorities concerned individually at 11 am on July 4.
The MPs will submit their letters of resignation in a proper format to the Lok Sabha speaker and the Rajya Sabha chairman, while the MLAs and MLCs will submit theirs to the Assembly speaker and Council chairman respectively.

27,000 more seats for engineering colleges

Hyderabad, July 2: More than 27,000 new seats including 2,100 seats in seven new colleges will be added to the engineering stream in addition to the existing 2.7 lakh seats in the state this year.
Similarly, the number of seats in the medicine stream is also expected to increase by 150 after the Medical Council of India (MCI) sanctioned permission for setting up a new government medical college and also additional seats in a private medical college in the state.

TDP legislatures also ready to quit on July 4

Hyderabad, July 2: Telangana Telugu Desam Forum (TTDF) on Friday reiterated that all the Telangana MLAs of the party would submit their resignations on July 4, immediately after the Congress MLAs quit their posts.
Responding to Congress MLAs’ decision to resign on July 4, TTDF convenor E Dayakar Rao said that TDP Telangana MLAs too were prepared to quit. TTDF would convene a meeting on July 3 to take stock of the situation.
‘‘We will take a pledge at the martyrs’ memorial here on July 4 and submit our resignations to the Speaker,” Dayakar Rao said.

1,500 people evacuated in London hotel fire

London, July 02: A fire at London’s Park Lane Hilton hotel forced the evacuation of about 1,500 people including the front man of rock group Black Eyed Peas.

Around 20 firefighters were sent to the luxury hotel early on Friday evening after the fire department received reports of smoke in a second-floor kitchen vent and in the basement.

CM assures provision of land for Muslim and Christian graveyard

Hyderabad, July 2: Chief Minister Mr. N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday assured Muslim and Christian minority that government lands will be immediately allotted for their graveyard based of their availability.

He told that the district collectors will be directed to acquire private lands if government lands are not available. Chief Minister announced this while addressing a conference of National Council of Dalit Christians at Jubilee Hall. Union Health minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad also attended the function.

Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood welcomes US talks

Cairo, July 02: Egypt’s powerful Islamist movement, the Muslim Brotherhood, said it is willing to hold talks with the United States, taking up an offer of dialogue seen as an implicit recognition by Washington that the group will likely hold significant political power in Egypt’s post-Hosni Mubarak era.

The Brotherhood’s bid for prominence comes at a time of growing discontent by pro-democracy protesters toward the military council that took power in Egypt after Mubarak’s ouster in February.

Pakistan slated to tour India in 2012 as per FTP

Mumbai, July 02: Pakistan have been pencilled in to tour India for a full series of Test and one-day cricket matches next year, in what would be a breakthrough in relations that were hit by the deadly 2008 Mumbai attacks.

The International Cricket Council governing body’s latest Future Tours Programme shows that the two South Asian rivals could play three Tests and five one-day internationals in March and April 2012.

Six tribals killed by Maoists in Munger, Bihar

Munger, July 02: In a pre-dawn strike, Maoists posing as CRFP personnel attacked a village in the district on Saturday, leaving six villagers dead.

The heavily-armed rebels attacked Kareili village around 5 AM and shot dead the villagers including some tribals.

While five villagers were killed on the spot, one succumbed to injuries in a hospital.

Deputy General of Police Neelmani said the rebels posing as CRPF personnel came in two vehicles and shot dead the villagers.

US wants India, Pakistan to keep up dialogue

Washington, July 02: Even as the US talks with Pakistan about its relationship with Islamabad since the US raid on Osama bin Laden’s hideout, the US considers it important that India and Pakistan continue their “constructive” dialogue.

“We said last week and continue to say that dialogue between India and Pakistan is a very constructive one,” State Department spokesman Mark Toner told reporters on Friday when asked if the US was asking Pakistan to do more to counter terrorism as demanded by New Delhi.

PM meets president, no clarity on reshuffle

New Delhi, July 02: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday called on President Pratibha Patil, triggering more speculation about a cabinet reshuffle.

The meeting lasted for 45 minutes, the president’s office said. However, there was no clarity on when the reshuffle would take place.

“The two leaders discussed about the forthcoming monsoon session of the parliament and the current political situation. They also discussed various other issues of national and international importance,” a release from the president’s office said.

US wars leave 225,000 dead, cost $4.4 trillion: Study

Washington, July 02: US wars launched since the attacks of September 11, 2001 have left 225,000 dead and cost up to $4.4 trillion, according to a new study by university researchers.

The study published by Brown University this week focused on the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and counter-terrorism campaigns in Pakistan and Yemen, which came in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on the United States.

Osama’s Son in Talks with UN to Release Family

United Nation, July 02: Osama bin Laden’s son, Omar bin Laden, says he is working with the United Nations to free his family members who are detained in Pakistan.

Amal Ahmed Abdulfattah, one of Osama bin Laden’s widows, along with some of his children and two other wives are held in Pakistan.

“I want to send a message to the leaders of Pakistan,” Omar told Reuters. “They should help the children of Osama bin Laden to go wherever they want to go. The Pakistani government should protect them, because they are just innocent children and women.”

A sorry thief pays up after 30 years

London, July 02: A man in Britain was in for the surprise of his life when a remorseful thief walked into his shop to pay for a gold pocket watch he had flinched 30 years ago!

Colin Brook, 60, was stunned when the thief, now middle-aged, walked in at his shop to give him 100 pounds ($160) in compensation, Daily Express reported Friday.

Brook said: “The chap said ‘I’m the man who pinched your gold watch and I’ve come to pay for it’.”

New Delhi, July 02: The sister of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian on death row in Pakistan following his conviction for alleged involvement in bomb attacks, on Friday urged the Pakistan government to send a special team to India to re-investigate his case.

12 year old Boy burnt for playing prank

New Delhi, July 02: A 12-year-old boy was doused with petrol and set on fire by a man who got infuriated by the youngster playing a prank on him, police said Friday.

“The incident was reported from Mangolpuri area of west Delhi Friday afternoon and the injured Abdul Aleem has been admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital with 30 percent burn injuries,” said a senior police officer.

Police said the incident took place outside shop number 1124 by the name of Aslam Electronic Shop in Y block of Mangolpuri.
