London, July 02: A man in Britain was in for the surprise of his life when a remorseful thief walked into his shop to pay for a gold pocket watch he had flinched 30 years ago!
Colin Brook, 60, was stunned when the thief, now middle-aged, walked in at his shop to give him 100 pounds ($160) in compensation, Daily Express reported Friday.
Brook said: “The chap said ‘I’m the man who pinched your gold watch and I’ve come to pay for it’.”
“After I looked at him closely his face came back to me. He was not somebody you wouldn’t trust. He was clean, personable, well-mannered and very well spoken – all those sort of things – but a thief.”
Brook, who runs an upholstery in Stratford, said “He said ‘I don’t come to Stratford often but when I do I can’t walk down this street without feeling guilty so I’ve come to put it right’.
He said he accepted the 100 pounds offer even though the then 70 pounds timepiece would now be worth about 500 pounds.
