CPM MLA ridicules resignation drama

Hyderabad, July 4: CPM MLA Julakanti Ranga Reddy has appealed to the central government to take a decision on Telangana and clear the uncertainty at the earliest.
In a statement here on Sunday, Reddy alleged that Congress leaders and ministers were divided on regional lines. Submitting resignations and withdrawing them later became a farce in the state, he remarked.

‘KCR provoking Congress MLAs to quit’

Hyderabad, July 4: Minor irrigation minister TG Venkatesh on Sunday said that the TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao was trying to derive political benefit by inciting Telangana Congress MLAs to resign in demonstration of their commitment for Telangana cause.
Speaking to reporters here, the minister said: “We will not allow bifurcation of the state. All Samaikyandhra leaders will go to Delhi and bring pressure on the party national leadership not to take any hasty decision under pressure from Telangana Congress leaders.”

Yajurveda Mandir to be inspected after July 15

Anantpur, July 4: District joint collector Anita Ramachandran said after July 15, inspections will be continued in Yajurveda Mandir, adjacent guest houses and other buildings in Prashanti Nilayam.
On Saturday, when the joint collector inspected Yajurveda Mandir, Rs 76 lakh worth gold and silver articles were found stashed away in a small room attached to Baba’s personal room in the Mandir.

London, July 04: A new business venture and imparting batting tips to son Arjun right are two things that Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar is currently focussing on before he starts concentrating on the upcoming England series.

The iconic batsman has been regularly visiting the MCC cricket academy to coach his 11-year-old son, Arjun – and passing on tips to other people using the indoor nets here.

An honorary life member of the club, Tendulkar, who has been staying at a property he owns near the Lord’s, has been visiting the academy here for the past few days.

Two Telangana ministers head to Delhi for talks

Hyderabad, July 4: Two senior Andhra Pradesh ministers, K. Jana Reddy and Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Monday left for Delhi for talks with the Congress leadership on the issue of statehood to Telangana.
Immediately after submitting their resignations, along with other ministers and legislators, to the deputy speaker of the assembly, the ministers left for the national capital to join their party MPs from the region in the talks with the leadership.
Nine MPs from Telangana are already in Delhi to submit their resignations to press their demand for formation of a separate Telangana state.

Shiv Sena, MNS warn action if Maria cast in film

Mumbai, July 04: The cine-wings of Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have warned the filmmakers and TV channels against casting Maria Susairaj, a convict in the 2008 Neeraj Grover murder case.

Ram Gopal Varma, who has made a film ‘Not A Love Story’ on the gruesome incident, had said that he was interested in casting Maria for a role in his next film. Stories of Maria to be a part of the next season of Bigg Boss also made rounds, even though Colors channel, which airs the reality show, dismissed these speculation yesterday.

Telangana: Congress to talk with MLAs, MPs

New Delhi, July 4: The Congress has called for another round of talks with its legislators and parliamentarians from Telangana in Andhra Pradesh even as they were expected to resign en masse, party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said Monday.
“They were supposed to submit their resignations. We have requested that we would like to have another round (of talks) before they submit their resignations,” Azad, the Congress leader in charge of Andhra Pradesh, told reporters here Monday.
As per reports from Hyderabad, five Congress legislators have already resigned.

Girl commits suicide to donate organs to family

West Bangal, July 04: Distressed by the plight of her father in need of an urgent replacement of both eyes and her brother of kidney, a minor girl committed suicide leaving a note instructing that her organs be donated to the ailing at Jhorpara village in Nadia district.

Mampy Sarkar (12) was often depressed seeing her father Mridul Sarkar, a daily labourer, suffer because of his decaying eyes and her brother Monojit ailing from a damaged kidney, police said. Monojit’s other kidney was also getting weak, the doctor had diagnosed.

JAC calls for two-day Telangana shutdown

Hyderabad, July 4: Normal life in Hyderabad and nine other districts of Telangana is likely to come to a standstill Tuesday and Wednesday as the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) has called for 48-hour shutdown in a bid to intensify its agitation for a separate state.
JAC, which is spearheading the movement for separate Telangana state, has given a call for a series of protests starting with the shutdown to demand that the central government table a bill on the issue in the monsoon session of parliament.

Telangana will become fireball, warns TRS chief

Hyderabad, July 4: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao has warned that Telangana will turn into a fireball from Tuesday if statehood was not given to the region even after the mass resignations of public representatives.
He cautioned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh against going back on his Dec 9, 2009 promise to carve out a separate Telangana state.

Congress MPs go to Delhi wearing war paint

Hyderabad, July 4: Their foreheads daubed with vermilion tikas, nine Congress MPs from Telangana left for Delhi on Sunday vowing not to chicken out of their intention to quit their membership of Parliament.
Notwithstanding the efforts of chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, APCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana and the high command to mollify them, they asserted they would meet speaker Meira Kumar at 11 am and deliver their resignation letters. At the same time, Telangana Congress MLAs and MLCs will meet the presiding officers of the state legislature here to do likewise.

AndhraPradesh, July 4:Deficit rainfall in the first month of the monsoon this year has left farmers in the north coastal districts apprehensive about another bad year, particularly potato farmers in Visakhapatnam. A handsome shower in mid-June sparked hopes of early kharif operations in these three districts — Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam — which are generally known for late sowing of paddy. However, the hopes have been belied: agriculture operations in parts of the three districts continue to be hit seriously.

Call center shifts from ‘expensive’ Mumbai to ‘cheaper’ Burnley

Mumbai, July 04: New Call Telecom, which competes with BT and Sky to offer home telephone services, broadband and low-cost international calls, is opening a call center in Lancashire after being attracted by low commercial rents and cheap labour costs, the Daily Mail reports.

New Call’s chief executive Nigel Eastwood reckons UK employees will stay longer as there are fewer opportunities to switch jobs than in Mumbai.

Husband bites wife’s ear in drunken rage

Bangalore, July 04: A Drunkard bit off his wife’s ear lobe and ate it even as she screamed in pain in Karnataka.

The incident, which took place on Tuesday night, disfigured the victim, Roopa ( 34), who approached the doctors for a plastic surgery.

According to the police, Roopa’s husband Nagaraj Reddy came home at around 10 pm in an intoxicated state.

“ They fought after dinner leading to the altercation. Subsequently, Roopa went off to sleep,” the police said.

Riots as Israel police quiz rabbi on ‘racist’ book

Jerusalem, July 04: Supporters of an Israeli rabbi questioned by detectives on Sunday over his endorsement of an allegedly racist book rioted in Jerusalem, burning tyres and injuring a policeman, police said.

Police spokeswoman Lubra Samri said that a total of seven people were arrested for various public disorder offences, including a pepper spray attack on a Palestinian passer-by and attempts to block roads.

“One police officer was lightly injured in the protests,” she said. Local media said he was hit in the stomach by a stone thrown by the rioters.

10,000 civilians sentenced in Egypt military trial: Rights group

Cairo, July 04: At least 10,000 civilians have been sentenced in military trials since Egypt’s January 25 uprising that ousted president Hosny Mubarak, a human rights group said Monday.

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information called on the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to reconsider, saying the activists jailed in military prisons do not get a fair trial.

There has been an uptick in protests to pressure the council, which has been in charge of the country since February, to stop the military trials of civilians.

41 MLAs submit resignations to DY speaker

Hyderabad, July 04: Sticking to their decision taken on July 1, the Telangana Congress MLAs and MLCs have submitted their resignations to the Assembly Deputy Speaker and Deputy Chairman of the Council respectively on Monday demanding that the Centre and the Congress high command initiate process for creation of separate Telangana State immediately.

According to the Assembly Deputy Speaker, Mr Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, 41 MLAs, including two from the PRP, have resigned to their posts and 12 MLCs submitted their resignations to the Council Deputy chairman, Mr Nethi Vidyasagar.

Supreme Court rejects plea against Sanjay Dutt’s bail

Mumbai, July 04: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed Bollywood film producer Shakeel Noorani’s plea seeking cancellation of actor Sanjay Dutt’s bail in the 1993 Mumbai serial blast case.

Mr. Noorani, who is involved in a financial dispute with the actor, had approached the Supreme Court alleging that he is being threatened by underworld on Dutt’s behest.

Dismissing his petition, a bench of justices P. Sathasivam and B.S. Chauhan said, “You cannot use this court to solve your financial disputes in a criminal case.”
