Cong MPs to push for T in Delhi from June 6

Hyderabad, June 02: Rajya Sabha Member and senior Congress leader K Kesava Rao on Wednesday stated that the party MPs from Telangana region would visit New Delhi from June 6 to June 10 to build pressure on the Centre on the separate statehood issue.

Talking to media persons after emerging out of meeting with MPs at Komatireddy Rajgopalreddy residence in Jubilee Hills, Mr Kesava Rao stated that the MPs would meet again on June 5 to take stock of the latest political situation in Telangana and devise the strategy to be adopted to push for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

Solve farmers’ issue by June 13, or else..: YRS Cong

Hyderabad, June 02: Setting the state government a deadline of June 13, the YSR Congress Party on Wednesday said that if concrete steps to solve the issues faced by the farmers are not taken by then, the party would intensify its struggle. UPA govt has betrayed people: Sushma

New Delhi, June 02: Accusing the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) of betraying the people, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj Wednesday said her party will bring out a people’s report card to highlight the failures of the government.

“The government has betrayed people of India… a report card from people will give its true account,” Sushma Swaraj said at a public meeting organised here by the party “on two years of failure of the UPA government”.

AP CM holds meeting with ministers

Hyderabad, June 02: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy tonight held a meeting with some of his state Ministers.

Various issues concerning the government and party were reportedly discussed in the meeting.

The election of Assembly Speaker and Chairman of Legislative Council was also discussed, officials said.

The election of Assembly Speaker has been pending ever since Reddy became Chief Minister.

Two including minor raped in Aurangabad

Aurangabad, June 02: Two incidents of rape, including that of a minor, were reported in Vaijapur tehsil here creating shockwaves across the district, police said.

A married woman was raped by a neighbour identified as Vikram S Thorat in Kadamvasti locality while she was sleeping alone in her home late last night, they said.

The victim registered a case with the Veergaon police station today, police said, adding Thorat has been arrested.

In an other incident, a minor girl was abducted and raped by two persons in Jambergaon village.

Maoist ideologue demands AP Gov be booked in encounter case

New Delhi, June 02: Refuting the allegations leveled by Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu that the Centre was responsible for the Telangana crisis, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday said a decision on Telangana would be announced soon.

Afridi ready to face disciplinary actions

Karachi, June 02: Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi on Wednesday accepted that he has violated the PCB’s code of conduct but expressed willingness to face disciplinary actions.

“Yes I have sent my reply to the board and I have accepted that I had violated the terms of my contract with them,” Afridi said from London.

Pakistan identifies Osama’s couriers

Martung (Pakistan), June 02: Pakistan has identified the Kuwait-born brothers who were al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden”s main links to the outside world during his stay at Abbottabad.

Bin Laden, who had evaded capture for a decade, was killed on May 2 along with these two men in a top-secret US unilateral military operation in Pakistan’s Abbottabad city.

Pakistani officials told The Wall Street Journal that they had identified the brothers as Abrar and Ibrahim Said Ahmad.

Saudi woman ‘raped by driver

Riyadh, June 02: A woman in Saudi Arabia has claimed she was raped at gunpoint by a male chauffeur she had been forced to hire.

The unnamed woman, who had hired the driver due to strict Saudi laws banning women from driving, claimed she was raped when the chauffeur pulled over in an industrialised part of Medina.

The alleged attack was reported by Suadi Arabian daily Okaz as a campaign intensified to allow woman driving licences and to drive legally.

Woman kills self as hubby refuse to buy new sari

Bhuwaneswar, June 01: A 27-year-old woman, Mamina Behera, has allegedly committed suicide after her husband, a carpenter, refused to buy her a saree for the Sabitri festival.

Police inquiry on Tuesday revealed that Mamina had a tiff with her husband, Susanta Behera, on Monday over buying the saree. After he went out for work that day, she allegedly committed suicide. She has a two-year old daughter, whom the neighbours found crying inside their rented house at Khandagiri. Police have registered an unnatural death case.

Anti-Islam lawmaker demands his acquittal

Netherland, June 01: Dutch anti-Islam lawmaker Geert Wilders on Wednesday demanded an acquittal on charges of racial hate and discrimination, saying he was “defending freedom” in the Netherlands.

“Acquit me. I do not encourage hatred, I do not encourage discrimination,” Wilders, 47, told judges before the Amsterdam regional court, broadcast on Dutch public television.

The court will give a judgment on June 23 at 9:00am (0700 GMT) Amsterdam court spokeswoman Yndra Poel told AFP.
