Probing Tata-Radia Phone Tap Leak: Govt to SC

New Delhi, February 01: Government today told the Supreme Court that it was taking seriously the issue of leakage of conversation between Tata chief Ratan Tata and corporate lobbyist Niira Radia and that an inquiry has been ordered into it.

“The government views the disclosure of such information seriously and in this context, an inquiry has been ordered,” an affidavit filed by the government said.

It also denied Tata’s allegation that it had adopted a lackadaisical attitude on a petition filed by Tata.

Hyderabad, February 1: It has become very clear that Anantapur faction leader Maddelacheruvu Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri was murdered as per a perfectly laid plan.

According to sources, the principal accused Bhanu Kiran had changed his appearance just a day before the murder. He had told his confident Subbaiah of his intention to physically eliminate his “boss” almost a month in advance. As per the pre-determined plan, he had procured two guns from one Anil of Kondapur.

Hyderabad, February 1: The Telangana separatists’ influence to disrupt the Racha Banda in the region went ahead unabated for the eighth day in succession on Monday.

In the districts of Karimanagar, Warangal, Mahabubnagar, the programme was either boycotted or was held for name sake as the locals cooperated with the agitators.

MRPS activists held at CM’s meet

Chittoor, February 1: Some 20 activists of Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS), who came to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, were arrested by the police here on Monday.

The MRPS workers tried to submit a memorandum on SC classification issue. Even as the police and other officials tried to convince them that it was not the occasion for submitting memorandum, the MRPS activists insisted that they would meet the Chief Minister. The police took them into custody whisked away.

Islamabad, February 01: Pakistani parliamentarians have demanded immediate government action to curb crimes against minorities following the migration of a Hindu lawmaker to India and a string of kidnappings, including that of a leading Hindu spiritual leader.

Ram Singh Sodho quit as a legislator in the Sindh provincial assembly late last month and shifted to India after receiving threats.

Sodho’s migration and rise in kidnappings for ransom against the minority communities were repeatedly mentioned in the National Assembly session.

Women found murdered

Hyderabad, February 01 (Siasat News):

Two women were found murdered in their flat in Miyapur on Monday evening. The women Nischita Mule, 30 and her mother-in-law Vimala Mule, 70 died as their heads were smashed with a blunt object at their La Gardenia apartments.

A one-year-old boy who was also present in the house, was not attacked.

12 prisoners booked for attack on Hyderabad jail officials

Hyderabad, February 01: A dozen prisoners of Cherlapally Central Jail here were Tuesday booked for attacking prison officials a day earlier. After police baton charged the attackers, two political parties have alleged it was an “assault on Muslim prisoners”.

A case against the 12 prisoners was booked at Kushaiguda police station under Cyberabad police commissionerate following a complaint by jail officials. Six officials were injured in the attack by prisoners Monday evening.

Mobile phones make youths shameless: Muslim body

Bareilly, February 01: A faction of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board on Monday passed a resolution opposing use of mobile phones by youths, particularly girls, as it make them “shameless”.

“Parents should ensure that their wards, especially girls, do not use mobile phones as it makes them ‘behaya (shameless)’,” stated the resolution passed by AIMPLB (Jadid) stated at its national convention here.

“Muslim families should strictly follow this,” AIMPLB (Jadid) national president Maulana Taukir Raza Khan said. However, he said, education for girls is very important.

Double life sentence for rape and murder of 9-yr-girl

New Delhi, February 01: A lower court here has awarded double life sentence to a man for rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl.

According to prosecution, Thessapan (42) of Serudhur was accused of raping and murdering his neighbour’s daughter in 2007.

In his order, the District and Sessions Judge Satishkumar also slapped a fine Rs 20,000 for each crime, besides the double life sentence.

If he failed to remit the amount, he would have to undergo an additional six years imprisonment, the jude said.

Girl raped by three, sold for Rs 50,000

Ahmedabad, February 01: A 24-year-old girl was abducted and raped by a group of three persons in Amraiwadi. She was then sold for Rs 50,000 to a prospective groom in a village of Amreli. The girl was abandoned by her husband and in-laws last week when they realised that she was not from the same caste.

The victim was sent for medical examination after she filed a complaint with the Amraiwadi police on Monday. The Dalit girl, a resident of Baliyanagar in Amraiwadi, used to work as a skilled labourer at Bharti Estate near Rabari Colony.

Prisoners attack jail staff with cricket bats

Hyderabad, February 01: Undertrial prisoners having links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence on Monday triggered a riot in the Cherlapally central prison, attacking prison staff with cricket bats when the latter went to conduct a surprise check following information that some of the inmates were using mobile phones. Nine prison staffers were injured, a deputy jailor suffering severe injuries.

His condition is said to be serious.

Prison authorities said they were tipped off that prisoners were running illegal activities from the prison with cell phones.
