New Delhi, February 04: Bipasha Basu thinks she makes a sizzling couple with her long-time beau, actor John Abraham, contrary to what a publication quoted her as saying.

“Whoever from the media quoted me in print saying John n me lk (look) like a boring couple, is bizarre. My real opinion, we look “SMOKING HOT”,” Bipasha posted on her Twitter page.

The actress was quoted in a leading daily saying – “We have become a boring couple”.

However, it was said in an explanation as to why the two aren’t being seen together at social events.

Post offices to distribute unique ID number

New Delhi, February 04: Indians will get their unique identification number from post offices.

An agreement to this effect was signed here Friday by the department of post and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which is in charge of the mammoth project.

“This is not a tactical but a strategic partnership where UIDAI will leverage the existing infrastructure of (post offices) to reach out to the masses,” said Nandan Nilekani, chairman of UIDAI.

Mubarak Likely to Quit Under US Brokered Deal

Washington, February 04: Embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is likely to step down immediately and turn over power to a transitional government headed by Vice President Omar Suleiman, backed by the army.

A deal to this effect is being brokered by the Obama administration, which is in talks with top Egyptian leaders, New York Times reported today quoting US officials.

Officials said under the proposal, the transitional government headed by Suleiman would prepare constitutional reform to prepare the country for a free and fair election in September.

26/11 case: Pakistan court adjourns trial till February 17

Islamabad, February 04: A Pakistani anti-terrorism court today adjourned the trial of LeT’s Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and six others charged with involvement in the Mumbai terrorist attacks till February 17 after prosecutors sought more time for the Lahore high court to decide on a related petition.

The prosecution team told anti-terrorism court judge Rana Nisar Ahmed that more time was needed for the high court to decide on its plea to declare lone surviving Mumbai attacker Ajmal Kasab and terror suspect Fahim Ansari as “proclaimed offenders” or fugitives.

Cairo, February 04: Former Israeli Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer has defended Egyptian President Hosni Mubrak, saying his collapse will be “tremendous loss” for Israel.

The former army general has praised Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak for supporting Israel for thirty years, Israel’s Arutz Sheva newspaper reported.

“When I watched his speech in which he said he would step down, it pained me to see his collapse,” Ben-Eliezer said on Wednesday about Mubarak.

Egypt’s defence minister inspects Tahrir Square

Cairo, February 04: Egypt’s Defence Minister Mohamed Hussein Tantawi and commanders of the Egyptian army Friday inspected Cairo’s Tahrir Square, a media report said.

Thousands of Egyptians are congregating at the square to hold protests against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Xinhua quoted state Nile News TV reported.

There has been tension since Friday morning at the square, which is the focal point of protests to oust Mubarak. The protesters are determined to force out Mubarak who has ruled them for the past 30 years.

Probe sought into disrupted assembly telecast

Panaji, February 4:Goa Speaker Pratapsing Rane Friday asked Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to initiate a police probe into the blackout of live assembly transmissions by a section of cable TV operators.

Speaking during zero hour, Rane said the live telecast was intended to inform the people of what their legislators were doing in the house.

“The cables of the media are being cut by some miscreants. This is a programme which the whole population should be seeing. Why are miscreants cutting cables? Send the police and check it,” Rane said.

26/11 martyr’s uncle critical after attempted suicide

New Delhi, February 04: K. Mohanan, the paternal uncle of 26/11 martyr Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, was in a critical state Friday after immolating himself Thursday evening, doctors said.

“He is still critical. We are constantly keeping an eye on his position. He is on the ventilator and has 95 percent burn injuries,” T.S. Sidhu, medical superintendent at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, told IANS.

‘Egypt army will not fire on people’

Cairo, February 04: US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen says Egypt’s army will not fire on protesters as anti-government demonstrations continue in the country.

“I mean in the discussions I’ve had with their military leadership, they’ve reassured me that they have no intent to fire on their own people,” AFP quoted Mullen as saying.

US military’s top officer said to his Egyptian counterpart General Sami Enan on Wednesday that the army is expected to conduct the country to political reforms.

Hyderabad, February 4 (Siasat News): Two vehicle lifters were arrested by the KPHB police today and eight stolen vehicles recovered from them.

The police caught Sandeep and Manoj Kumar near Malaysian Township during routine vehicle checking. As they could not produce the documents, they were taken into custody.

On interrogation, the duo admitted that along with an associate, they had committed theft of eight vehicles.

Mogadishu, February 04: A fresh round of clashes in central and northern Somalia has left at least 18, including soldiers and fighters, dead and over 26 others injured as warring factions fight over control of positions.

Heavy fighting between pro-government forces and al-Shabaab fighters broke out on Thursday in the central Somali villages located near Guriel district, in Galgadud region, 300 km north of the capital, Mogadishu, a Media correspondent reported.

MiG fighter crashes, no loss to life

Gwalior, February 04: A MiG-21 fighter of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Madhya Pradesh Friday but there were no casualties as the pilot ejected safely, an official said.

The crash occurred at around 11.20 a.m. at Anup Nagar, 150 km southwest of this Madhya Pradesh town, an IAF spokesperson said here.

“The pilot ejected safely and was picked up the IAF,” he said.
