Los Angeles, Deceember 31: Hollywood starlet Lindsay Lohan will finally move out from within the boundaries of the Betty Ford Clinic in California and return home. According to reports in the media, the actress’ rehabilitation term has come to an end. However, LiLo will not return to her home in New York. Rather her father Michael Lohan is getting ready a new home in Los Angeles to welcome his daughter after a three month stint at rehab. Reports suggest that Lindsay Lohan will be staying in Los Angeles with her mother Dina and three younger siblings.

Maniac sets girl afire and commits suicide

Sangareddy (Medak), December 31: In a stunning incident of love lunacy, a maniac has poured kerosene on a girl and set her on fire, for spurning his overtures and committed suicide. The ghastly incident occurred in Medak on Thursday.

According to police, Sasidhar Reddy, a resident of Pothireddypally village has been stalking Aparna. As she has spurned his overtures, he poured kerosene on her and set her afire. He has jumped to his death from a building later. While the maniac died on the spot, the girl was being treated for critical burn injuries in a hospital here.

New Delhi, December 31: In the bone chilling winter when finding a place to sleep becomes an utter necessity, many homeless people in the national capital are making a deliberate choice of not sleeping in night shelters due to concerns of class, gender and personal hygiene among others.

A sizeable chunk of the roughly estimated one lakh homeless in the national capital are ready to brave the chill but are not very enthusiastic about using the night shelters set up for them.

Cold conditions relent in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, December 31: Biting cold conditions relented in several parts of Punjab and Haryana with minimum temperature going up by upto 5 notches, even though rains lashed the region.

In Chandigarh, mercury rose by 4 notches above normal and settled at 9.7 deg C, MeT office said here today.

In Punjab, minimum temperature increased in Amritsar and Patiala districts by 5 degree C and settled at 9.4 deg C and 11 deg C respectively. Ludhiana had a minimum of 9.4 deg C, up by 3 notches.

Couple ends life after killing kids

Tirupati, December 31: A husband and wife ended their lives after killing their two children in a pathetic incident in the pilgrim town on Thursday.

The bodies of the four were found in the MSR Lodge near DAR Mahal. The deceased were identified as residents of Bangarupalem of Chittoor district.
Police feel that financial problems might be responsible for their extreme step.

Hyderabad, December 31: A couple in Hyderabad decided to do just that and ended up running around the world in 2010.

Bored of running in marathons in cities, Uma and Krishna Prasad decided to explore the world and finally rounded up their journey in Antarctica, thus becoming the first Indians to complete marathon runs across seven continents in the same calendar year.

Uma Chigurupati, Managing Director, Krishna Estates said, “When we came to know that Antarctica run is in December, we thought of doing all the other runs before that in this calendar year itself.”

JPC logjam: Speaker to meet non-BJP parties today

New Delhi, December 31: In a bid to end the logjam in Parliament over (JPC) probe into the 2G spectrum scam, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will Friday meet the leaders of the Left and other non-BJP opposition parties.

Jindal the most popular Governor in US: Poll

Washington, December 31: Indian-origin Louisiana leader Bobby Jindal is the most popular serving governor in the United States, an opinion poll has said.

Jindal has an approval rating of 58 percent, while 34 percent disapprove of his job, shows a survey by Public Policy Polling.

One of the top ranking Republican leader of the country, Jindal is seeking re-election next year.

Jindal is closely followed by Jodi Rell of Connecticut, who has an approval rating of 55 percent.

Heart and lung patients benefit from indoor plant intervention

Washington, December 31: A new study from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and Sweden’s Uppsala University revealed that a plant ‘intervention’ improve the well-being of patients in a difficult rehab process.

Ruth Kjærsti Raanaas, Grete Grindal Patil, and Terry Hartig studied the effects of an indoor plant intervention amongst 436 coronary and pulmonary patients at a Norwegian rehabilitation centre.

Results showed that patients’ overall physical and mental health improved during the programme, but the presence of new plants did not increase the degree of improvement.

CM to open ‘Numaish’ on Jan 1

Hyderabad, December 31: Asserting that “no force on earth” could stop the Telangana movement, Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhar Rao said they would rest only after achieving statehood for the region.

“No force on earth can stop our movement now. This time we will rest only after taking Telangana. There is no question of resting without taking Telangana state,” he said.

No night trains in Maoist-hit areas till Jan 6

Kolkata, December 31: The restrictions on movement of passenger trains during night in Maoist-affected areas of West Bengal, Orissa and Jharkhand will continue till Jan 6, the South Eastern Railway said in Kolkata on Thursday.

“In view of security reasons, running of passenger trains on Kharagpur-Adra, Chakradharpur-Rourkela and Kharagpur-Tata section will continue to remain suspended up to Jan 6 from 10pm to 5am,” a railways release said.

Accordingly, some train services have been diverted, re-scheduled and regulated, it said.
