MBT leaders protest against verdict, arrested

Hyderabad, October 02: A protest was staged yesterday against Allahbad High court verdict on Babri Masjid title case by Masjid Bachao Tehreek subsequently heavy police force came into action to restrain protest.

Police arrested leaders of MBT Dr. Qayam Khan convenor, Amjad ullah Khan Khalid corporater and other activists and sent them to various police stations. During the arrest MBT office had been cordoned off and the whole area had become police cantonment.

Friday prayer peaceful in Makkah

Hyderabad, October 02: A day after Babri Masjid title case verdict was pronounced tight security measures had been witnessed in the city on the event of Friday prayers.

Muslim offered prayers amidst tight security and barriers put up by the police as precautionary measures. In view of Friday, police maintained strict vigilance across the city. Important routes of the city were barricaded. Section 144 had been strictly implemented.

Was not under any pressure: Ayodhya judge

New Delhi, October 02: Within days of delivering the much-awaited Ayodhya verdict, one of the judges on the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court has spoken out on the matter.

Justice Sudhir Agrawal told a news channel that he or any of the other judges were under no pressure whatsoever from any quarters.

According to him, it was just like any other case for the Bench.

Agrawal also discounted reports that there was tension between the judges over the verdict.

Woman constable raped; two policemen in custody

Kota, October 02: In a shocking incident a woman constable was raped and murdered inside a police station by two of her associates in Kota, Rajasthan.

Two policemen have been arrested in connection with the incident and have been sent to police custody till October 04.

Both the policemen were said to be in a drunken state and misbehaved with the woman constable inside the police station. When the lady cop opposed their move and threatened to complain to the seniors, they raped and murdered her.

The state government has ordered a probe, which will be headed by the ADG.

Babri ruling: Muslims divided

New Delhi, October 02: A day after a court ruled in favour of a Ram temple at the site of the razed Babri mosque in Ayodhya, many Muslims across India were clearly unhappy. Others felt it was time to move on.

As millions went into the details of the epoch-making three-judge bench verdict from the Allahabad High Court, some Muslims insisted that they had not got justice.

Muslim leaders who had championed the reconstruction of Ayodhya’s 16th century Babri mosque, razed by Hindu mobs in 1992, were a disappointed lot — having spent time and energy on the cause.

‘Hisss’ gets the Princess of Travancore

Mumbai, October 02: Actress Mallika Sherawat’s forthcoming film “Hisss” has been making quite a buzz and the latest is that Lakshmi Bai, the erstwhile princess of Travancore, will make an appearance in the movie.

“Akka” as she is affectionately called by close friends and family, met “Hisss” diector Jennifer Lynch through family friend Govind Menon, who is producing the film.

When Lynch was casting for the role of Divya Dutta’s mother, she offered the role to Lakshmi Bai who initially refused. But after much convincing and cajoling, she finally agreed to be part of the film.

‘Government to celebrate Batukamma this year’

Warangal, October 02: Information, public relations and tourism minister J Geeta Reddy today announced that the state government will celebrate Batukamma festival officially in entire Telangana from this year onwards.

For the conduct of this festival, the state government will release Rs 1 lakh each to all districts in the region. Guidelines for organising the festival will also be released soon, she said.

An order to this effect has been issued by the cultural department today.

CM thanks people for peace post Ayodhya verdict

Hyderabad October 02: Chief minister K Rosaiah today thanked the people of the state, political parties, public representatives, religious organisations, youth, students and police for ensuring peace and harmony after the pronouncement of the verdict on Ayodhya title dispute by the Allahabad High Court.

He expressed happiness that the state in general and the city in particular remained calm after the judgment was pronounced.

Oct 30 is last date for payment of SSC exam fee

Hyderabad, October 02: All the heads of secondary schools in the state are instructed to incorporate mother’s name in addition to father’s name of students appearing for Class X public examinations in the manuscript nominal rolls and OMR-cum- ICR sheets for SSC public examinations scheduled to be held in March next year. The last date for payment of examination fee is October 30.

Application forms can be had from the schools or the district educational officers concerned.

“The aggression by Babar cannot be an issue of faith for Muslims. Their commitment should be with Ayodhya. We are telling all intelligent, nationalistic Muslim brothers that enough is enough. Let the perennial disputes and bloodshed end,” an editorial in party organ Saamna said.

Hindus help Muslims restore mosque

Purtageri, October 02: A small village in North Karnataka has showed the way to communal harmony. In Purtageri near Gadag in North Karnataka, it’s Hindus who’ve come forward to help their Muslim brethren restore a mosque that was on the brink of collapse.

It’s a century old mosque that’s been crying for attention since last October. It’s roofs started leaking and a portion of it was badly damaged in the heavy rains that lashed many parts of north Karnataka last year.

Muslims betrayed: Shahi Imam

New Delhi, October 02: Rejecting the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ayodhya title suits, the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid on Friday said the community had been “betrayed” again, even as he appealed for peace.

Criticising the Congress, Syed Ahmed Bukhari said: “Now dialogue has become one of the refrains, but we have seen the attitude of Congress regime over the years. First, it was installation of idols in 1949, then it was shilanyas, followed by the opening of locks and then presiding the martyrdom of Babri Mosque. Now we have been betrayed again.”

Zaheer was talking to Laxman and not Ponting: Harbhajan

Mohali, October 02: Seeking to clear air over the altercation paceman Zaheer Khan had with Ricky Ponting, India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh today said the whole issue was a misunderstanding on part of the Australian captain.

Harbhajan said Zaheer’s remarks were not directed at Ponting as the paceman was just talking about the rival skipper with teammate VVS Laxman.
