College Principals body discovered in lodge

Hyderabad, August 08: In a shocking incident, the staff of a lodge discovered the body of the Principal of a B Tech college was discovered near the Central Bus Station, Afzalgunj on Saturday.

According to police, P Janakaiah (35) was the Principal of SRK B Tech College in Narayanapet in Mahabubnagar district.

Mr Janakaiah had come to Hyderabad on some official work on Thursday morning and booked a room in Sri Krishna Lodge opposite the CBS in Gowliguda.

Heavy rains raise warning level-3 in Khammam

According to reports coming in, the heavy inflows in the Srisailam Project have forced authorities to lift the crest gates, leading to outflows rushing in the Godavari River.

Zardari ends British visit with a political rally

England, August 08: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari addressed a rally in Britain for his political party on Saturday, ending a visit he was criticized for making while millions struggled with devastating floods at home.

Protesters outside the rally shouted “Go Zardari, Go,” while witnesses said that inside an old man tried to throw a shoe at the president before being hustled away by security guards.

Complaints galore as Ahmedullah visits Makkah Masjid

Hyderabad, August 08: Minority Welfare Minister Ahmedullah Syed on Saturday inspected the arrangements in the Historic Makkah Masjid prior to the advent of the Holy Month of Ramzaan.

Seven nursing students test positive for swine flu

Hyderabad, August 08: Health officials on Saturday confirmed that seven of the 17 nursing students admitted to Gandhi Hospital were afflicted with swine flu.

The blood samples were sent to the Erragadda Chest Hospital after the students showed symptoms of the dreaded disease on August 5.

Gandhi Hospital doctors confirmed that news that seven nursing students had indeed tested positive for the infection on receiving the reports.

Three of the nursing students are stated to be in a serious condition.

Court summons Thackeray over migrant comments

Darbhanga, August 08: A Bihar court summoned MNS chief Raj Thackeray for clarifying his position in connection with a complaint against the latter’s alleged provocative statement against migrants from northern India in 2008.

Darbhanga district Judge Sushil Kumar ordered the issue of summon to Thackeray, asking him to present his side in the court by September 3.

“Thackeray can appear in the court in person or through his lawyer to explain the position,” Kumar ordered.

Woman, 75, kills 80-year-old husband

New York, August 08: A 75-year-old woman stabbed her husband, 80, to death in a fit of rage in Monroe town in New Jersey, police said.

Ruth Zucker was charged with the murder of her dentist husband, Harvey Zucker, in the living room of their home in a retirement community in Monroe, the New York Post reported.

The body, which had multiple stab wounds, was found when their 46-year-old son, Scott, went to visit. Zucker herself was covered with blood and a knife was recovered, the Middlesex county prosecutor’s office said.

British woman doctor among 10 shot in Afghanistan: group

London, August 08: A Briton who was among eight foreign medical aid workers shot dead in Afghanistan was a 36-year-old female doctor, an organisation she had been working with said Saturday.

Dr Karen Woo, who British media reported was due to get married in two weeks, is believed to have been part of a group which had been delivering aid and medical care in the northeastern province of Badakhshan.

She is thought to have quit her job with a private healthcare firm in London so she could work in Afghanistan.

Israel violates Lebanese airspace again

Jerusalem, August 08: Two Israeli aircraft have violated Lebanese airspace, breaking the sound barrier over several villages in the eastern part of the country.

The Lebanese Armed Forces issued a statement on Saturday saying that an Israeli fighter jet together with a reconnaissance plane crossed into Lebanese airspace on Friday at 6:00 p.m. local time (1500 GMT) and hovered over the eastern town of Baalbek, situated approximately 86 km (54 miles) northeast of the Lebanese capital Beirut.

Israeli aircraft left Lebanese airspace at 10 p.m. local time (1900 GMT).

Foreign mercs must leave, Karzai says

Kabul, August 08: Afghan President Hamid Karzai has called on the United States and its allies to stop supporting private security companies, saying the activities of these firms aggravate the country’s problems.

Karzai made the remarks in Kabul on Saturday during a visit to the Afghan Civil Service Institute, which is training thousands of civil servants in the capital and across the nation to bolster the capacity of the Afghan government, AP reported.

Gaza flotilla ships return to Turkey

Ankara, August 08: Three Turkish relief ships of a Gaza-bound flotilla that was attacked by Israeli forces last May have finally returned to Turkey.

The lead aid ship, the Mavi Marmara, reached the port of Iskenderun on Saturday morning. Another ship with the convoy, the Gazze, arrived on Saturday evening. The third one, the Defne-Y, had docked at Turkey’s
Iskenderun on Friday, according to Solar Ship Rescue Services Director General Murat Dalyan.

On July 23, Israel decided to allow the three ships to return based on a joint decision made by all circles of power.

Dev Patel is afraid of Spiders

Mumbai, August 08: “Slumdog Millionaire” actor Dev Patel admits the biggest fear he has is that of spiders and he can’t even be in the same room with them.

“I am not superstitious but I am a scaredy-cat in general. The last time I was frightened was when I saw a massive spider in the bathroom,” quoted Dev as saying.

“I had to run out in my towel and scream for my dad,” he added.

The “Last Airbender” star is dating actress Freida Pinto, who featured opposite him in the Oscar winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire”.

Shoes thrown at Pak Prez Zardari

Birmingham, August 08: A protestor on Saturday threw both his shoes at the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, when he was addressing the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) meeting in the International Convention Centre in Birmingham.

He was later taken into custody by the police.

The furious protestors staged demonstrations outside the International Convention Centre venue in Birmingham.

They were protesting Zardari’s visit to UK when the Pakistan is suffering from the devastating floods.

Swedish internet co discloses its WikiLeaks link

Solna, August 08: A Swedish Internet company PRQ disclosed its link with online whistle-blower WikiLeaks in releasing classified documents from servers located in a Stockholm suburb.

The firm has been working with WikiLeaks since 2008 but through a Swedish middleman and provides the Internet service, electricity and other services, including restarting the servers when needed.

PRQ owner Mikael Viborg said that WikiLeaks has servers outside Sweden, too.

“There are backups. If one goes down, there are others that take over,” he added.

TDP president kicks off Maha Dharna in Tirupati

Tirupati, August 07: TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday launched a ‘Maha Dharna’ (mega sit-in) in front of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams headquarters here in protest against alleged irregularities in TTD which runs the famous Lord Venkateswara temple.
