Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal dismisses demand

Hyderabad, July 01: The Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal Wednesday dismissed the demand of Andhra Pradesh government for a fresh survey of the crest level height of Alamati dam over Krishna river as it could deprive several riparian areas of water for irrigation.

The Tribunal said in an order that “there is no merit in the case made out by Andhra Pradesh” which sought a fresh survey by Survey of India of the crest height of Alamati dam located in Karnataka.

Srinivas win will mean eyeing CM seat, says camp

Hyderabad, June 30: Followers of APCC president D Srinivas in the Nizambad (Urban) constituency have begun stumping for their leader.

In their anxiety to make sure that he wins this time, they have launched a campagin — albeit by word of mouth — that if he clinches the seat the chief ministership would surely be his for the asking.

But such propaganda may well boomerang, given the caste composition of the constituency.

Court directs EC to hold by-polls in Telangana

Hyderabad, June 30: The Andhra Pradesh High Court today directed the Election Commission (EC) to hold by- elections to Vemulawada and Sircilla Assembly constituencies in Karimnagar district along with other 10 seats in the state going to the bypolls next month.

A Division Bench comprising Justices V V S Rao and Vilas Afzalpurkar allowed a writ petition in this connection filed by Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS). The sub-regional party had questioned the EC’s decision to withhold bypolls in these two constituencies.

Governor commissions two war ships

Vishakapatnam, June 30: INS Cankarso and INS Kondul, the fifth and sixth in a a series of water jet propelled fast attack craft of the Indian Navy were commissioned by Governor ESL Narasimhan here today. The ships, measuring 50 metres in length and displacing 325 tonnes of water, can achieve a speed in excess of 30 knots. They have a complement of four officers and 45 sailors.

Sunkesula works to be completed in 10 days

Kurnool, June 30: Minister for major irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah said Sunkesula reservoir works would be completed in another ten days and water from Handri Niva project would be released from August 15 as promised at any cost.

The minister inspected Sunkesula reservoir repair works today. He came to Kurnool today from Hyderabad.

After taking some rest at the government guest house in the city, he reached the site. After talking to labourers there, he drove the proclainer and tractor for a few minutes there.

Tirupati-Guntakal train flagged off

Tirupati, June 30: Efforts were on to get the project to develop the Tirupati railway station to international standards cleared, member of Parliament Chinta Mohan said here today.
