Sunkesula works to be completed in 10 days

Kurnool, June 30: Minister for major irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah said Sunkesula reservoir works would be completed in another ten days and water from Handri Niva project would be released from August 15 as promised at any cost.

The minister inspected Sunkesula reservoir repair works today. He came to Kurnool today from Hyderabad.

After taking some rest at the government guest house in the city, he reached the site. After talking to labourers there, he drove the proclainer and tractor for a few minutes there.

Later, he held a review meet on Jalayagnam and works on the projects which were damaged in the recent floods with collector Ramasankarana Naik and other irrigation officials.

The minister directed officials to speed up works, especially on Malyala, Alluru and Muchchumarri projects.

He asked them to complete repair works on KC canal at the earliest apart from checking drainage water being released from the towns on either side of the canal.

Later, speaking to mediapersons, the minister said Sunkesula dam was completely damaged in floods and restoration works were taken up on a permanent basis at a cost of Rs 15 crore such that it could withstand even 10 lakh cusecs of flood water in future.

Allaying fears of farmers, the minister said all the ayacut farmers in the district would get water.

Housing minister Silpa Mohan Reddy, irrigation CE Kasinath, SP Ramachandra Reddy, Sunkesula dam SE Ravikumar were present.
