I work ‘without break’ for Bihar, says Nitish

Patna, July 03: Bihar has recorded a high growth rate but a lot is still to be done, according to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who said that he worked “every day without a break” for the state’s development.

“I have been working every day without a break, thinking often of the philosophy of aharnish seva (uninterrupted work through day and night),” Nitish Kumar wrote on his blog Saturday.

“We are joining the bandh to awaken the UPA Government,” Raj said in a statement here. Petrol is costlier by Rs 4 a litre in Mumbai than in Delhi, while LPG price is higher by Rs 45 per cylinder, Raj pointed out.

All-India strike delays Orissa university exams

Bhubaneswar, July 03: Exams scheduled for Monday in Orissa universities have been postponed in view of the nationwide shutdown called by political parties to protest the hike in fuel prices, officials said Saturday.

The Biju Patnaik University of Technology and the Utkal University postponed their exams after several political parties called for a strike earlier this week, marking the first unified showdown since the Congress returned to power last year.

Israel rules out apology to Turkey

India alerts Afghanistan about the Haqqani network

New Delhi, July 03: Amid Pakistan’s intensified efforts to influence evolving power-sharing negotiations in Afghanistan, India and Afghanistan today held wide-ranging talks, with New Delhi making clear its unease about accommodating hardcore Taliban and militant groups like the Haqqani network.

YSR death due to fault of pilots: CBI

Hyderabad, July 03: The Central Bureau of Investigation has blamed pilot error for the helicopter crash in which former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajashekhar Reddy was killed.

Almost 10 months after the helicopter carrying YSR crashed in the Nalla Malla forests the CBI finalised and submitted its report on the tragic incident on Friday.

The recorded voice of the pilots saying “go around go around action” according to the CBI happened in the last few seconds before YSR’s helicopter crashed on September 2, 2009 in Nalla Malla forests of Andhra Pradesh.

BJP considering Uma Bharti’s return

New Delhi, July 03: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is considering the return of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti to its fold, top level party sources have indicated.
They said the process of her return was under way but no final decision has been taken. “The process is on,” the sources said.

5.2-magnitute quake hits Andaman Islands

New Delhi, July 03: A slight intensity earthquake of 5.2-magnitude hit off Andaman Islands late last night, Meteorological Department has said.

But there were no immediate reports of damage or tsunami warning.

The quake struck at the depth of 27 kilometres south of Port Blair at a place situated at 9.9 Degrees N Latitude and 91.8 Degrees East Longitude in the Andaman sea at around 23.53 hours, the Met department said.

The Andaman area witnesses frequent earthquakes.
