Neil Nitin Mukesh hit with a broom by his director

Mumbai, July 29: Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh was hit with a broom by none other than director Pradeep Sarkar on the sets of his forthcoming film “Lafangey Parindey”.

According to a source, the scene required actress Deepika Padukone to first beat Neil and his friends with a broom and then throw a pail of water on them. But Pradeep wasn’t happy with her performance and decided to demonstrate the scene himself.

Priyanka sports grungy look for ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi 3’

New Delhi, July 29: After showcasing her svelte figure in films like “Fashion” and “Dostana”, Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra is set to sport a grungy look to host Colors’ adventure reality show “Fear Factor – Khatron Ke Khiladi 3”.

The 28-year-old actress wore denim hot pants teamed with a broad belt, knee-length boots, a cropped yellow top with a black leather biker jacket and gloves for the first promo, a statement said.

Her look has been created by Bollywood stylist and fashion designer Anaita Shroff Adajania, who earlier styled for the “Dhoom” franchise as well as “Race”.

CBI summons IPS officer Johri in Sohrabuddin case

Gandhinagar, July 29: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Thursday summoned Geetha Johri, the first woman IPS officer of Gujarat, by Aug 10 for questioning in connection with the 2005 killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in a staged shootout.

Johri was a part of the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by R.K. Raghavan to probe the case.

Madani anticipatory bail plea hearing adjourned till Aug 3

Bangalore, July 29: The Karnataka High Court today adjourned till August 3, hearing of the anticipatory bail plea of Kerala People”s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Naseer Madani, an accused in the 2008 Bangalore blasts.

When the case came up for hearing before Justice N Ananda, Public Prosecutor H S Chandramouli sought some more time to file objections. The judge then adjourned hearing of the plea to August 3.

On July 9, a fast track court had dismissed Madani”s anticipatory bail plea on the grounds that there was “no prima facie case” to grant him anticipatory bail.

Hamas eyes lingerie shops in modesty drive

Gaza City, July 29: The Hamas rulers of the Gaza Strip ordered lingerie shops to display more modesty as part of a campaign to safeguard “public morality”.

The Hamas-run police force has told stores selling women’s underwear to remove scantily-clad mannequins and any posters of racy undergarments.

“It is absolutely forbidden to place any photographic device inside the shop and it is forbidden to display revealing clothes in front of the shop,” a statement said.

SDO arrested for trying to rape woman

Muzaffarnagar, July 29: A government employee allegedly tried to rape a woman following which he was arrested at Saharanpur here, police said today.

R P Singh, a Sub-Divisional Officer of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation, yesterday attempted to rape the woman, they said.

The woman lodged a complaint against Singh following which a case has been registered and he was arrested, police said.

Sharm-El-Sheikh, July 29: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah arrived here Wednesday on the first leg of a four-nation tour which will also take him to Syria, Lebanon and Jordan aimed at strengthening Arab unity and reviving the Middle East peace process.

King Abdullah, who flew in from his royal residence in Casablanca, held talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on major regional and international issues and ways of boosting bilateral relations.

Sperm bank prohibited: Indonesian Ulema Council

Jakarta, July 29: The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has declared that the presence of sperm bank in the country was haram or prohibited.

“Sperm donor is haram, so is sperm bank,” MUI edict commission deputy secretary Asrorun Ni’am Sholeh said as quoted by kompas.com on Tuesday.

However, MUI allowed the establishment of breast milk banks in the country.

“A breast milk bank could be established as long as it meets the first requirement that there is an agreement between the baby parents and a breast milk donor including a payment to the donor,” he said.

Minister warns of fruit and veg hormone injections

New Delhi, July 29: Indian farmers are injecting a hormone sometimes given to women during childbirth into vegetables and fruits to make the produce ripen sooner and gain weight, an Indian minister has warned.

In a letter to health ministry officials seen by media, junior health minister Dinesh Trivedi demanded a nationwide crackdown on the illegal use of the prescription drug Oxytocin, which he said can cause serious health problems if taken over a long period.

Not Taken By-Polls Seriously: Naidu

Hyderabad, July 29: The TDP chief, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, has said that he had not taken the by-elections seriously because of his party’s fight for the Babli project.

Talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, the TDP supremo said that even the Politburo members had not concentrated on the by-elections. Stating that the elections were totally left to the lower level leadership, he said his party had contested as there was need to contest the elections, as a political party.

Dynamite blast injures 12 people in Guwahati

Guwahati, July 29: At least 12 persons, including a woman and two minors, were injured Thursday in a dynamite blast in a private stone quarry at Jorabat on Assam-Meghalaya border.

The blast was triggered near the famed Ganesh Mandir when the area was busy with vehicles and commuters on the inter-state Guwahati-Shillong Road at around 6 pm, official sources said.

A woman and her child travelling in a car with her husband were seriously injured when debris from the blast hit them, sources said.

Ahmed, in his 20s, represents some of the leaders of the young blood of the militia unit under the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), the third largest faction in Palestine after Hamas and Fatah.
