“But I am shocked to know that the news doing the round is that I used the men’s loo, followed by the speculation that I’m pregnant! All this is far from true, ” points out Sherlyn.

US consulate in Hyderabad silent on rape case

Hyderabad, July 08: The USA consulate here is tight-lipped on the incident in which a 30-year-old US national was allegedly raped by an unidentified person at her residence.

The victim has been working with Clinton Foundation as a nutritionist.

When contacted the USA consulate said they are aware of the incident and cannot comment.

“We are aware of the report. We cannot comment or provide any further details at this point of time,” a consulate official said in a message sent to PTI.

54 Shias killed in Baghdad bombings

Baghdad, July 08: A series of bomb attacks targeting Shia pilgrims here has killed 54 people and left 359 injured, an interior ministry source said Thursday.

“A total of 51 pilgrims were killed and 318 wounded in Wednesday’s attacks, including the suicide bombing of Adamiyah district in Baghdad,” the source told Xinhua.

A roadside bomb went off Thursday morning near a procession of Shia pilgrims in southeastern Baghdad, killing three pilgrims and wounding 31 others, he said.

Woman lawyer stabbed to death in court

Bangalore, July 08: An advocate allegedly stabbed a woman lawyer to death in the Karnataka High Court Thursday over a failed love affair, a police official said.

Advocate Raju, 28, stabbed junior lawyer Naveena, 25, many times with a knife and then attempted to commit suicide by slitting his throat and consuming poison. He also attempted to stab himself in the stomach, Cubbon Park police sub-inspector Jagdish told IANS.

By the time Naveena was rushed to a nearby hospital, she died.

Raju was taken to a private hospital for emergency treatment and is under intensive care.

Osama’s statue found inside garden gnome

London, July 08: A Briton was left dumbstruck when he accidentally broke a garden gnome and out popped a statue of Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.

Joseph Balfour, 73, who lives in the tiny village of Mossblown, Ayrshire, said: “I was watering some bedding plants and I caught the hose round a gnome. It fell over and broke.

“I picked it up and noticed the wee fella in there looking at me. I recognised Osama right away. He’s a pretty famous guy,” The Sun Wednesday quoted him as saying.

Kadapa district named after YSR

Hyderabad, July 08: Andhra Pradesh government Thursday renamed Kadapa district as YSR district on the birth anniversary of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who was popularly known by his initials.

The state government issued a notification, renaming the native district of YSR.

Ignoring objections from the opposition parties and using the powers under Andhra Pradesh Districts (Formation) Act, 1974, the government issued the order. The records in the state gazette have also been accordingly changed.

China bans vulgar ads

Beijing, July 08: Chinese authorities have issued new guidelines to curb the use of sex and vulgarity in advertisements of online video games.

The culture ministry issued a notice Tuesday, asking officials to check the vulgar marketing of cyber games, China Daily reported Thursday.

The government had also issued a notice June 22 banning the use of sex, gambling and violence to promote online games.

The new regulation, to be implemented from Aug 1, came after a string of advertisements by online game companies.

Mumbai, July 08: Romantic comedy “I Hate Luv Storys” has collected approximately Rs.21.5 crore in the domestic circuit in the first three days of its release and hero Imran Khan says he is surprised by the “grand opening” it has got.

“I feel honestly very surprised with the numbers. I had told (director) Punit Malhotra that it’s a very good film and I was quite confident with the way it was promoted, but I didn’t expect such a opening, ” Imran told over the telephone.

Hyderabad, July 8 (Siasat News): A 45-year-old man died after taking an injection for headache from a medical store at S R Nagar here on Wednesday.

The police said R Ramakotiah was suffering from headache and went to a drug store owned by one Kanaka Raju.

He collapsed and died after taking the injection. A case was filed against Raju.

Hyderabad, July 08: Ignoring the warning by the Congress leadership, party MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy Thursday began his ‘Odarpu’ yatra in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district, attracting huge crowds.

Thousands lined up both sides of the streets and stood on rooftops to welcome Jagan at the start of his three-day campaign in Itchapuram town.

The Kadapa MP unveiled a statue of his late father and former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on his birth anniversary and paid floral tributes to him at the site where YSR ended his 68-day ‘padyatra’ in 2003.

US world’s global dictator: Ahmadinejad

Abuja, July 08: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called the United States a global dictator and lashed out at Israel after arriving in Nigeria to meet fellow Muslim leaders at a summit.

“They are the self-proclaimed leaders and everybody should know that self-proclaimed leadership is dictatorship,” Ahmadinejad, referring to the United States, told an audience of hundreds at the Iranian embassy in Abuja.

“The era of dictatorship is over,” he added through an official translator.

Iran to limit trade with UAE: official

Tehran, July 08: The Iran-UAE Chamber of Commerce announced that Iran reduced its trade ties with the UAE following the latter’s decision to freeze 41 Iranian bank accounts.

Masoud Daneshmand, Head of Iran-UAE Chamber of Commerce, said trade ties with the UAE would be significantly reduced following the Gulf country’s announcement of freezing any accounts belonging to firms listed in the latest U.N. sanctions against Iran.

Andhra Pradesh remembers YSR on birth anniversary

Hyderabad, July 08: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah led the state in paying tributes to his predecessor Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on his birth anniversary Thursday.

The popular leader died in a helicopter crash Sep 2 last year.

“A heartfelt remembrance of the winner of people’s hearts. Our government will work every second to ensure that your immortal smile shows up on every face of the state,” said a government advertisement in newspapers.
