Mumbai, February 26: Veteran actress Karisma Kapoor is as charismatic as ever. Her counterparts like Raveena Tandon, Sonali Bendre and Twinkle Khanna never make public appearances while pregnant but she recently attended a wedding in Mumbai though she was heavily pregnant.

It was reported that she looked gorgeous in a white and pink salwar kameez. Dressed in a loose kurta by her favourite designer Manish Malhotra, Karisma carried off herself very well in spite of the baby bump. She even posed for shutterbugs.

AP govt assures of fool-proof arrangements for IPL

Hyderabad, February 26: In a fresh effort to get the IPL-III matches back in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh government asked the BCCI-IPL to visit the city to see for itself the fool-proof arrangements made by it.

“I would like to request you and your officials to make a visit to Hyderabad to assess yourself our preparing for IPL-3 in style and also to become conversant with the high degree of security and assurance of our government to conduct an incident-free government,” Sports Minister K Venkat Reddy said in a letter to IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi.

Blast in Kabul

Kabul, February 26: An Afghan Defense Ministry official says at least seven people have been killed in bombing attacks in Kabul.

Gen. Ahman Zia Yaftali says seven bodies have arrived at military hospitals from the site of the attack. He says there were some foreigners among the dead but did not have the exact figures or nationalities.

He also did not have information on how many dead were police or civilians.

At least two police officers were reported dead by other sources.

Liverpool, Juve through as Roma, Shakhtar crash

Paris, February 26: Liverpool survived a big scare against Romanian underdogs Unirea Urziceni before securing a 3-1 victory that takes them into the Europa League round of 16.

Serie A giants Roma, however, crashed out of the competition after losing 3-2 at home to Greek side Panathinaikos last night, while defending champions Shakhtar Donetsk were eliminated by English Premier League side Fulham.

Major fire in Delhi shoe factory

New Delhi, February 26: A major fire broke out in a shoe factory in the city early this morning, fire brigade officials said.

The blaze was reported from the factory located in Udhyog Vihar in Peeragarhi at around 5:20 am.

Thirty-two fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire.

Woman employee hurls slipper at Judge in court

Kurnool, February 26: Taking a cue from the incident where footwear was hurled at the erstwhile US president George Bush, a government employee did the same in the court here today.

She threw a chappal on Judge M Shanmugam in the IVth Additional and Family Sessions court in the city today.

Surprisingly, the woman – Radha Rani – is a typist in the same court. The judge and the typist had an argument earlier in the day on a petty issue.

Man trying to sell teenage sister for Rs 50,000

Ghaziabad,February 26 :Four others have also been arrested in the case. The five were held from a house in Loni’s Ram Park area. The girl, who is from Guwahati in Assam, has been rescued.According to SP ( City) A. K. Vijeta, Raju Thakur, the main accused, was striking a deal with two persons — Babu and Alam — to sell off his sister.

The girl was supposed to be sold to Raj Pal and Dharm Pal, two farmers from Dadri and Jarcha in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Budh Nagar district.Acting on a tip- off, the police raided the house and arrested the five accused.

Headley arrest key factor in Pakistani crackdown on Taliban’

Washington, February 26: Pakistan may be cracking down on the Afghan Taliban partly as a response to building US pressure following revelations from the arrest of Pakistani-American David Headley, according to a US South Asia expert.

A US court in Chicago has charged Headley with scouting targets for Pakistan based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for the November 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

Along with Headley, Pakistan born Canadian terror suspect Tahawwur Hussein Rana, has also been charged with providing material support to LeT for the Mumbai attacks.

Shahid Afridi to play for Bangladesh T20 team in Sharjah

21 killed in garment factory

Dhaka, February 26: At least 21 people, including 15 women, were killed and 50 injured in a major fire which broke out in a garment factory in Bangladesh’s Gazipur town, around 50 km north of Dhaka, police said on Friday.

The blaze engulfed the Garib & Garib Sweater factory at around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday when workers were preparing to leave, said Suman, one of the workers who escaped the fire.

At least 50 were injured, suffering burns or smoke inhalation. Of them, 20-25 were taken to hospitals, a senior police officer said.

Sensex rises 74 points in opening trade on Asian cues

Mumbai, February 26: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex recovered by over 74 points in the opening trade on Friday on fresh capital inflows from foreign funds amid a firming Asian market.

The 30-share index was up by 74.05 points, or 0.45 per cent at 16,328.25 points, in the opening trade.

The Sensex had closed almost flat in Thursday’s choppy trade.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 22.80 points to 4,882.55 points.

MLA kills self

Patna, February 26: Ruling JD(U) MLA Abhay Singh on Friday allegedly committed suicide after shooting his wife and six-month-old daughter dead at his father and Bihar Minister Narendra Singh’s official residence here.

Food and Supplies Minister Narendra Singh fell unconscious after the incident and has been admitted to the ICCU of Patna Medical College and Hospital with cardiac complications, sources said.

Police said Abhay Singh, who was elected from Jamui, shot his daughter and wife dead with a gun before killing himself after a quarrel at about 2 am.
