With his full-on actioner “Wanted” becoming a hit, the superstar has millions of rupees riding on his shoulders with three more big-budget films lined up. And all his friends in the industry – from David Dhawan to Vipul Shah – are rejoicing at the actor’s success.

“Wanted” earned about Rs.38 crore (Rs.380 million) across the country in its first week and industry experts feel that the film’s good business will help Salman’s forthcoming releases – “Main aur Mrs. Khanna”, “London Dreams” and “Veer”.

Kathmandu, September 27: Nepal’s Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that his government is committed to establish a commission for investigating political killings that occurred during the struggle to overthrow the monarchy.

“The government is determined to establish the truth and reconciliation commission and a disappearance commission as a part of ensuring transitional justice and restoring social harmony and peace,” Mr. Nepal said during the opening session of the UN General Assembly on Saturday.

Losing weight protects kidneys

London, September 27: Losing excess weight through dieting, exercise and surgery can improve kidney function in obese adults already suffering from kidney disease.

Being overweight or obese had long been linked with various health conditions such as diabetes and heart problems.

Weight loss was therefore shown to improve control over diabetes, lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and reduce heart-related complications.

A new study, however, found that losing weight can also help protect the kidneys.

US to demand immediate opening of Iranian nuclear site: Report

Washington, September 27: The world powers led by the US will insist in a meeting Thursday with an Iranian delegation that Tehran immediately open its newly revealed nuclear plant to international inspectors, the Washington Post reported online.

The existence of the second Iranian nuclear facility was revealed Friday in an announcment by US President Barack Obama, who joined with leaders from Britain and France to accuse Tehran of concealing from UN inspectors the plant, which is believed to be intended for enriching uranium.

Mumbai, September 27: Some Bollywood stars are flying about 1200 kilometers north to Pataudi (India) to host a dinner in honor of Julia Roberts, who is currently shooting for “Eat, Play, Love”, according to reports.

The list reportedly includes Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, etc.

Tagore, who is chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) of India, has reportedly already met Roberts.

Government regulatory body CBFC is “responsible for certifying the films produced in India as well as outside the country suitable for public exhibition”.

5 teachers killed in road accident

Gorakhpur, September 27: Five teachers, including two women were killed and eight others injured in a road accident in this Uttar Pradesh district this morning.

All the deceased were heading towards Maharajganj when the jeep they were travelling in collided head-on-with a truck coming from the opposite direction near Bargadai bridge under Gulharia police circle, 25 kms away from district headquarters.

The deceased were teachers of Navodaya Vidyalaya, Maharajganj.

US committed to nuclear deal, India told

Pittsburgh, September 27: Notwithstanding its recent sponsorship of a U.N.resolution calling, inter alia, on all countries to sign the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty, the United States has assured India it remains fully committed to the civil nuclear agreements of 2005 and 2008.

“We have been assured that this is not a resolution directed at India and that the U.S. commitment to carry out its obligations under the civil nuclear agreements that we have signed with it remain undiluted”, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said when asked by reporters here about the U.N. resolution.

Minutes after alighting from a plane at Devi Ahiliya Bai Airport, Sherawat put on a burqa to hide her identity.

“I repeatedly requested her to remove the burqa for a while and pose for a photograph, but she did not. So I took her snap in the burqa itself ,” a press photographer, who had waited for a long near the airport to take her photograph said.

Do not hold back ties on Mumbai issue: Pak Foreign Secretary

New York, September 27: With India insisting on concrete steps against the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks, Pakistan on Saturday said New Delhi should not hold the relationship back on a single issue as it has done what was “required” in the case.

“The question is how do we move beyond this point. The relationship cannot be held or brought to a standstill because of a trial or one investigation,” Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir told PTI after meeting his Indian counterpart Nirupama Rao here.

54 killed in storm in the Philippines

Manila, September 27: At least 54 people were killed as tropical storm Ketsana battered a wide area in the Philippines, dumping record rainfall on the capital, officials said Sunday.

Twenty-one people were missing in floods and landslides caused by Ketsana, according to Defence Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, who also heads the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC).

Authorities rushed rescue and relief to thousands of people who spent the night on the roofs of their submerged houses in Manila and surrounding provinces.
