I want to do all kinds of films as an actor: Shahid

New Delhi, September 27: Shahid Kapoor is still basking in the attention coming his way after the box office success and critical acclaim for Vishal Bhardwajs Kaminey, which featured him in an intense action role, a far cry from his image of a ‘romantic hero’ in his earlier films like ‘Ishq Vishq’, ‘Vivaah’ and ‘Kismet Konnection’.

The accolades for his double role in ‘Kaminey’ notwithstanding, Shahid insists that as an actor he wants to try his hand at all kinds of roles.

The Bollywood heartthrob, whose latest film ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ features him in a light hearted romantic portrayal, feels that a role like that in ‘Kaminey’ comes an actor’s way ”once in a blue moon”.

”A role like the one in ‘Kaminey’ does not come to an actor every day. Moreover, as an actor, I want to try my hand at all kinds of films. I am trying my hand at everything. I am still at the stage when I am discovering different sides to myself,” Shahid told UNI here.

Nothing illustrates this more than the fact that after playing intense characters like that of Charlie and Guddu in Kaminey, Shahid’s latest film Dil Bole Hadippa belongs to an altogether different genre than Kaminey.

”Kaminey and Dil Bole Hadippa are vastly contrasting films both in terms of genre and their treatment. While Kaminey was an intense action film, Dil Bole Hadippa is a fun film. It is a colourful film, one which is high on entertainment. ‘Hadippa’ is an exclamation which is made when we are in a good mood, or when we are happy or when we are celebrating, which is somewhere the flavour of our film, Shahid says.

Shahid said, Dil Bole.. is a film which he had not attempted before.

”Firstly, I play the character of a cricketer in the film, which is something I have not done before. Further, I have never before done a film with the kind of celebratory flavour that ‘Dil Bole..’ has. Its new for me that way,” the actor said.

The film brings together on screen for the first time the pair of Shahid and Rani Mukherjee. Infact, Dil Bole.. has Rani playing a sardarji. In the film, Ranis character dons the garb of a sardar (Sikh) to get into the area cricket team headed by Shahids character.

”I enjoyed the interactions between Rohan and Veer. It was a guy to guy interaction and to have that kind of interaction with Rani was really nice. Rohan and Veer are extremely funny together. Its very fresh, very different and really very hilarious,” he said.

Shahid, who had years ago worked with Rani in a cola commercial, added, ”I was surprised when I was offered the film with Rani.

Infact, I was telling Rani throughout the movie that “Rani I am your fan, I still dont believe I am doing a film with you after that commercial”. And she always used to get damn irritated. She used to say Shahid, now you are my actor, please behave like a hero.” The actor is elated at the positive response that the film has evoked from across the country.

”I am happy that ‘Dil Bole..’ has got a very positive response.

‘Kaminey’ was a different film and this film has different sides of mine. It looks like a fun film. I have really got a very positive response and I am really happy. It’s great to see that people like me and Rani together,”Shahid said.

”Rani has done some brilliant work in the past and has been getting lot of praise for her portrayal of Veer. Having worked with her earlier, I was sure that if anybody can pull this off it would be Rani and no one else. Working with her you really gain a lot. She has so much experience on her side. She is so focused and I really respect that in anybody,Shahid added.

Incidentally, Dil Bole Hadippa is Shahids first film with Yashraj Films.

”YRF is an extremely professional set up to work with. The best thing about YRF is that it is headed by a creative man.

Adi(Aditya Chopra) is a director himself and he is the producer.

Usually, there are problems when the director is on a different side and the producer is on the different side. Here, you have somebody who understands the creative part so it is a lot easier to communicate with him,” Shahid said. Made under the Yash Raj Films banner, “Dil Bole Hadippa” also stars Anupam Kher, Rakhi Sawant and Vrajesh Hirjee. The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) recently.
