Aishwarya in land deal row

New Delhi, June 24: The Bachchan family and land acquisition don’t seem to go along well. First it was Amitabh Bachchan and the land in Barabanki and now it is daughter-in-law Aishwarya who is in a land muddle in Nasik.

The police in Nandurbar in Nasik have received a farmer’s complaint who has alleged that his land was taken over in an illegal fashion and sold to actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

The farmer said that his land was procured by Suzlon Energy Ltd in 2003-2004 for a paltry amount of Rs 20,000. And then the same land was sold to Aishwarya for Rs 20 lakh.

Alleged lover of Asia’s richest woman testifies

Hong Kong, June 24: The alleged lover of the late Nina Wang, Asia’s richest woman when she died, testified today for the first time in the Hong Kong court case to decide if he will inherit her multibillion-dollar estate.

Feng shui adviser Tony Chan Chun-chuen, 49, claims he was romantically involved with Wang and that the real estate tycoon left her fortune to him in an October 2006 will.

But the Chinachem Charitable Foundation which was set up by Wang and her late husband, holds a July 2002 will that bequeaths Wang’s estate to the charity.

Monsoon plays truant; Govt preparing plan of action

Indian jailed in UK for stealing identity

London, June 24: An illegal immigrant from India has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for stealing another man’s identity and pretending to be him for 12 years.Sukhjiwan Singh Burham, 37, was arrested by UK Border Agency officers during a raid on a catering firm in Southall
on April two.

He claimed to be a British national named Avtar Singh, and a later search of his property by immigration officers uncovered a marriage certificate and driving licence in that name. However, they also found letters and other documentation in his true name.

Aishwarya too busy for motherhood?

Govt will try to implement Yash Pal report in 100 days: Sibal

New Delhi, June 24: Taking forward the process of reforms, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal today said the government will try to implement in 100 days the Yash Pal committee’s recommendations for setting up of a national commission in higher education and research.

“The report seeks to show a roadmap for future of education in India. The recommendations are pivotal for reforms. I believe it will be accepted by the nation,” Sibal told reporters after eminent educationist Prof Yash Pal submitted the report to him at his office here.

Little time to savour T20 win, says angry Afridi

No place for Chand Mohd in Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC): Bishnoi

Taliban leader killed by guard who was ‘planted by rival ‘

Islamabad, June 24: A Taliban leader who had emerged as a potential rival to Pakistan’s most wanted militant has been assassinated by a guard, alleged to have been planted by the feared Baitullah Mehsud.

Qari Zainuddin was shot several times by one of his own guards who had stormed into his office following morning prayers and then fled in a car. Mr Zainuddin was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.

Man murders pregnant wife, commits suicide

Mumbai, June 24: A man allegedly murdered his pregnant wife by hitting her with iron rod on the head, and later hanged himself at Manubai Javala area in Gevrai tehsil in this district.

Police said Mahadev Kamble (30) had married Mangla five years ago and also had a one-and-a-half-year old son.

The couple fought frequently as Mahadev suspected Mangla’s character. Yesterday, their tiff reached its peak and Mahadev ended up hitting Mangla, who was pregnant, on her head with a iron rod, police said.

Couple arrested for kidnapping two-year-old girl

New Delhi, Jun 24: A couple, who allegedly kidnapped a two-year-old girl from India Gate on Thursday last week and let her off after a day, have been arrested, police sources said today.

The couple Jugal Kishore and Rekha, who had gone out of Delhi after the girl’s missing case hogged limelight, was caught by a team of Delhi Police from outside the national capital, they said.

They are being taken to the capital, they said without revealing from where the couple was picked up.

Iran Air Force wraps up Persian Gulf drill

Tehran, June 24: Iran’s Air Force has successfully conducted the final phase of a large aerial maneuver over the Persian Gulf.

“At the final stage of the aerial maneuver, dubbed Milad-Noor-Velayat, on Wednesday, fighters of the Iranian Air Force successfully hit predetermined targets to test new domestically-made armaments,” Air Force pilot Brigadier Hossein Chit-Foroush, spokesman for the maneuver, told reporters.

Woman gangraped in east Delhi home

New Delhi, June 24: A 22-year-old woman was raped allegedly by three men, including her husband’s friend, in her east Delhi residence, police said today.

The incident was reported from Bholanath locality last evening.

The three men came to her residence on the pretext of meeting her husband and then allegedly raped her, a senior police official said.

According to the woman’s statement, the three raped her and threatened her of dire consequences if she made a noise.

Her husband claimed that he came back home in the night and found his wife crying.

Aishwarya should have got IIFA award for ‘Jodhaa Akbar’: Jaya

Dinosaurs may not have been as huge as thought: Study

New Delhi, June 24: Gigantic dinosaurs, as shown in Hollywood movies, may not have been as huge when they actually walked on the earth, scientists have said.

Scientists at the Colorado University in the US claimed to have found that the original statistical model, used to calculate dinosaur mass, was flawed.

The model showed dinosaurs as oversized animals due to the imperfection of the evaluating techniques, they said.

No Obama apology for CIA in Latin America

Washington, June 24: US President Barack Obama on Tuesday declined to apologize for a past CIA interventions and alleged coup attempts in Latin America, after talks with Chilean leader Michele Bachelet.

“I’m interested in going forward, not looking backward,” said Obama, who has pledged to reinvigorate ties with Latin America, after what his advisors believe was neglect during the previous Bush administration.

“I think that the United States has been an enormous force for good in the world. I think there have been times where we’ve made mistakes,” Obama said in the Oval Office.

Sarabjit’s family appeals to New Delhi to intervene
