Don’t interfere, Ahmadinejad tells Obama

Tehran, June 25: President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused President Barack Obama of behaving like his predecessor on Iran and called on him to apologise for what he called US interference following the Iranian elections.

Obama has ramped up his previously muted criticism, saying he was “appalled and outraged” by a crackdown on protests which followed Ahmadinejad’s disputed re-election.

Poor nations plead for money at U.N. crisis meeting

New Delhi, June 25: Developing countries had a clear message on Wednesday for a U.N. meeting on the global financial crisis — we need money.

Planning for the three-day conference has been fraught with difficulties. It was first scheduled for June 1-3 but U.N. General Assembly President Miguel D’Escoto postponed it to this week when it became clear negotiators had no agreement on a set of draft proposals for reforming the global financial system.

After Australia and Canada now attacks on Indian in Russia

Moscow, June 25: After Australia and Canada, attacks have now been reported on Indians in Russia with a businessman badly beaten up and robbed by unidentified men in broad daylight here, a media report said today.

The Indian businessman, whose identity has been withheld by the police, was knocked down and beaten by unknown attackers near the Moskva River embankment in the heart of the town yesterday, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.

Emma Watson to quit Hollywood?

London, June 25: Harry Potter star Emma Watson is considering giving up acting if she doesn’t find any more roles she is passionate about.
The teenager who plays Hermione Granger in the hit movie franchise would be willing to axe her film career if she can’t find other fulfilling roles.

“I don’t have a burning passion for acting. Until something comes along that I feel as strongly about as I did Hermione – like, I felt that it was life or death – I don’t want to act again,” she said.

The 19-year-old will be next seen in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”.

Soldiers fined after ‘prank’ injures naked officer

London, June 25: Three soldiers have been fined after leaving an officer with “nasty” injuries when they tied him up and carried him naked from his bedroom in a drunken “prank”.

Corporal Paul Kingswood, Lance Corporal Mark Foster and Lance Corporal Matthew Stenton were at a party at a barracks in Germany after their return from Iraq when they were “put up” to the prank by an army captain.

They dragged the officer from his bed and, in the struggle to carry him outside, ripped off his boxer shorts and caused him to suffer carpet burns to his torso, elbow and knee.

Bedi, whose family originally hails from Chhabewal village near Hoshiarpur town in Punjab, 130 km from here, chose this place Wednesday to announce the release of her first album of Sikh devotional music.

Naidu urges CM to lead all-party delegation to Delhi

Hyderabad, June 25: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu today urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to lead an all-party delegation to New Delhi to exert pressure on the Centre to find a political solution to the row over Babli and 11 other projects with Maharashtra.

India slams ‘ferocious’ attacks

New Delhi, June 25: There have been large rallies against the attacks in Australian cities India’s overseas minister Vayalar Ravi has expressed concern over the “ferocity” of recent attacks on Indian students in Australia.

Mr Ravi told the BBC that the attacks have become more “aggressive”.

He said the primary reason for such attacks was robbery and that a few could be called racial attacks.

The attacks have caused outrage in India and prompted Australian PM Kevin Rudd to reassure the Indian government that Australia is not a racist country.

Artists write to Chidambaram, more forces in Lalgarh

Lalgarh, June 25: Eminent artists have written to Home Minister P. Chidambaram complaining about atrocities by security forces, whose presence in this trouble zone was beefed up Thursday by 1,000 paramilitary troopers crossing over from Jharkhand.

Hyderabad, June 25: Concerned over continuing ”racial attacks” on Indian students in Australia, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu today urged the Centre to send a Parliamentary delegation to that country to stop such attacks.

Dalit woman paraded half-naked in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, June 25: Five people allegedly thrashed a 40-year-old Dalit woman, chopped her hair and then paraded her half-naked through an Uttar Pradesh village alleging that her husband was involved in a theft, police said Thursday.
“The incident took place Wednesday in Sirsia village of Kushinagar district where a group of locals ill-treated Barfi Devi alleging that her husband was involved in a theft,” police Inspector Om Prakash Chauhan told IANS by phone.

Sudan orders four hanged for murder of U.S. official

Sudan, June 25: Four Sudanese men on Wednesday were condemned to hang for killing a U.S. aid official and his driver in Khartoum, and a fifth man was jailed.

John Granville of the U.S. Agency for International Development was the first U.S. government official killed in Khartoum in more than three decades in a crime that sent shockwaves through the capital’s expatriate community.

Granville, 33, from near Buffalo, New York, and his driver, Abdelrahman Abbas Rahama, 39, were shot as they returned from New Year’s celebrations in the early hours of Jan. 1, 2008.

Coming Soon: 35 New Live Streaming Channels On Reliance GSM Network

New Delhi, June 25: In a first of its kind effort, Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications (RCom), is all set to come up with 35 new live streaming channels to its GSM subscribers.

The private sector telecom company is already offering 13 news and other TV channels to its CDMA network.

For this purpose, RCom has tied-up with Hyderabad-based Apalya Technologies.

The services are branded as MimobiTV.

Confirming the development, Krishna Durbha, Head (VAS) RCom said, “We are in advanced talks with Apalya. The tie-up would help us increase the width of the usage.”
