Mumbai,February 02:The Sangh-Sena rift over identity politics in Maharashtra moved a step closer to rupture on Monday after the BJP threw its weight behind the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on the issue. Amid hardening positions on both sides, BJP president Nitin Gadkari backed the RSS view articulated by its chief, Mohan Bhagwat, even as Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray launched a broadside against the RSS, asking it to keep off the Mumbai-for-Marathis issue.

MUSIC maestro A.R. Rahman’s dream run continues on the global front. The ‘Mozart of Madras’ scaled a new high on Monday by winning two trophies at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards for his music in last year’s Oscar-winning film, Slumdog Millionaire.

Rahman won the best compilation soundtrack album (for a motion picture, TV or other visual media) for Slumdog Millionaire. His song Jai ho, from the same film, got a trophy in the best song (written for motion picture, TV or other visual media) category.

T-Committee this week

New delhi,February 02 :The Home Minister said the government was on the job of drafting the Terms and Reference of the Committee and would announce it. “Terms and reference can’t be kept in secret. When we will draft it, we will announce and circulate it”, he said.

Last week, Chidambaram had said the Committee to examine the demand for separate Telangana will be announced this week.

New Delhi,January 29: The much-talked about Committee to examine the demand for separate Telangana will be announced next week, home minister P Chidamabaram.

The Home Minister said the government would have more or less finalised the names and will do by the the end of this week. “Perhaps by the next week, the committee will be announced,” he said.

“We are almost at the end of concluding that exercise. If all goes well, we should have a committee by the end of this week. We will announce the committee by next week,” he told reporters declining to give out the names.

Southern model for “MUSLIM QUOTA”

New delhi,January 28 :The centre has asked all states to follow Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to provide increased quotas for minorities under the OBC ambit. The move comes on Wednesday after the Centre found it tough to push through a quota for Muslims in educational institutes and government jobs on the lines of a model recommended by the Ranganath Misra Committee report.

RBI will HIKE INTREST RATES ?

Mumbai,January 28 :IN the wake of accelerating economic activity and rising prices, the Reserve Bank of India ( RBI) is expected to not only hike the cash reserve ratio ( a portion of bank deposits kept as cash reserves with the RBI), but also tinker with the key policy rates on Friday.

Though bankers are expecting only a hike in CRR by 0.25- 0.5 per cent, economists feel the RBI cannot afford to wait for various factors, including inflation and growth, to threaten the economic balance before hiking the policy rates.

“TWO” flags hoisted in Telangana

Gujrat riots:Best bakery convicts want to go gujrat jail

Mumbai, January 21: 8 convicts in the Best bakery case have petitioned the Bombay High Court seeking their transfer from Kolhapur central jail to Gujarat.
The petition filed by them said, “We are far away from our home. Our families are facing financial difficulties because of which they are not able to visit us. It becomes time consuming and expensive for them to visit us in Kolhapur Jail.”

All the eight have been convicted for burning alive 14 people inside Best Bakery in Hanuman Tekdi area of Vadodara during the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat.

Islamic banking a reality ?

New Delhi,January 20: The govt has offered a helping hand to Kerala in revoking a stay order by the state high court against setting up of an Islamic bank.

Noting that the court order could hamper investment opportunities in the country, Union minority affairs minister Salman Khurshid said the Centre would coordinate with the state government in dealing with the issue legally.

Speaking at the editors’ conference on social sector issues on Monday, Khurshid backed the concept of Islamic banking.

Judicial magistrate Pramod Gangwar and his friend Vivek Gupta are named in an FIR lodged by one Annaju Singh.

Gupta and Singh teach in a college. Singh reported to a mahila thana that she was receiving salacious SMSes and objectionable calls from a mobile number belonging to judge Gangwar.

Muslim man branded as terrorist offloaded from bus

London,January 14: An “innocent” man of Asian origin was branded a “terrorist”, and forced off a bus in Scotland by fellow commuters, who feared that he was a suicide bomber, as he had a rucksack and two cell phones, a media report has said.

According to British tabloid The Sun, police swooped on the bus, and then ordered the unidentified Asian man off for questioning after barmy passengers badgered the driver over “concerns” he was a terrorist on a suicide bombing mission.

Mumbai,January 13: The spat between Salman Khan and his producer Vijay Galani has turned uglier with Salman pulling out from the promotions of his own movie.

The producers are desperately trying to make Salman agree to attend a parade at Delhi’s Red Fort where Salman is supposed to be chief guest.

Sources say Salman, who is also the scriptwriter of the film, was demanding a few changes in the climax scene which Galani has refused to make. So a miffed Salman has cancelled all promotional activities for the movie to force his producers to toe the line.
