Australian PM warns Indian students over revenge attacks

Sydney, June 10: A second night of protests by Indian students over perceived racially motivated violence against them prompted Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to warn Wednesday against the formation of vigilante groups.
“I fully support hardline measures in response to any act of violence towards any student anywhere – Indian or otherwise,” Rudd said. “And furthermore we also need to render as completely unacceptable people taking the law into their own hands.”

‘Pregnant man’ gives birth to second baby

Los Angeles, June 10: Thomas Beatie, the transgendered man who created history last year by giving birth to a baby girl, has done it again.

ABC News reported that Beatie gave birth to a son early Tuesday in Bend, Oregon, and that the child would be nursed by his wife, Nancy.

Beatie, 35, was born a woman, but legally changed his gender. He decided to get pregnant after it emerged that Nancy could not conceive. Photos of a bearded pregnant Beatie caused a sensation last year.

Mumbai, June 10: Hindus have criticized actress Heather Graham and other “Hollywood types” who apparently think of Tantra as just sex.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that Tantrism was a major channel in Indian religious traditions and besides Hinduism, it also exerted considerable influence on Buddhism and Jainism. Sankaracharya had mentioned the names of 64 Tantras.

Hyderabad, June 10: The Legislative Assembly on Tuesday was agog with rumours that TDP MLA from Kovur in Nellore district, N Prasanna Kumar Reddy, was contemplating to quit Telugu Desam and join Congress.

The rumour spread like wild fire as Prasanna Kumar distributed a letter which he said he had written to party president N Chandrababu Naidu. In the letter, Reddy has advised Naidu to be wary of `chamchas’ and `buffoons’ who had “surrounded him and giving wrong advice leading to hasty decisions on important issues.”

Fine quality rice still eludes consumers

Hyderabad, June 10: The state government is finding it hard to live up to its promise of making fine quality rice available at Rs 20 per kg despite a
crackdown on hoarders across the state over the past fortnight.

Civil supplies minister J Krishna Rao on Tuesday said that a spate of raids on millers and hoarders across the state was yielding results with millers coming forward to sell fine quality rice (sona masuri) at Rs 26 per kg. The minister said raids by the vigilance and enforcement department across the state had resulted in the seizure of stocks worth Rs 119 crore.

Peshawar, June 10: A huge suicide truck bomb ripped through a luxury hotel Tuesday killing 11 people and wounding 52 in Pakistan’s Peshawar city, capital of a northwest province plagued by Taliban violence.

Two foreigners were among the dead in the devastating blast at the five-star Pearl Continental hotel, provincial information minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said, but would not reveal the nationalities.
