Karnataka MLA surrenders before ACB in cash-for-bail scam

Kampli MLA T H Suresh Babu, who is allegedly involved in cash-for-bail scam of former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, on Monday surrendered before the Anti Corruption Bureau officials at Nampally.

According to the ACB soources, Bellary (Urban) MLA Gali Somasekhar Reddy, brother of Gali and Kampli MLA T H Suresh Babu have not been in public view after the scam broke out. The ACB has served notices on these two MLAs directing them to appear before the investigating agency within three days.

Case against CBI JD struck down

The High Court today struck down a Public Interest Litigation against CBI Joint Director V V Lakshmi Narayana that he was leaking information about his investigations.

One Bhavanam Bhushanam of Guntur filed the PIL in which he stated that the CBI officer was leaking information about details of investigation to select media about investigation into cases, including disproportionate assets case against Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, Emaar Properties and OMC cases.

DG opens first ever police canteen in Vizag

Director General of Police V. Dinesh Reddy inaugurated Central Police Canteen at City Police Commissionerate here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dinesh Reddy said the Canteen will supply all types of goods to the para-military, CISF, BSF and other Army personnel. He pointed out that Army personnel in 11 States were availing the Canteen services across the country.

He said that it was the first of its kind in the State. He also said that he was making efforts to get the goods exempted from VAT. Some 42,000 families would be benefited by the Canteen, he added.

AP Cong functionary held for ‘misbehaving’ with woman patient

A functionary of the Andhra Pradesh Congress was arrested today for allegedly “misbehaving” with a 25-year-old woman patient at his private hospital here, police said.

Dr Jayendra Rishnath, convener of the state Congress committee’s Doctors Cell, was held on charge of misbehaving with the woman patient at his Kerala Aurveda Hospital here and remanded in judicial custody till August 9, police sub-inspector Ranganayakulu told reporters.

Constable commits suicide in AP

A constable allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Rajaomandi mandal of East Godavari district, police said on Sunday.

Under tension after being served a memo by his senior, constable Srinivas, attached to Jeddangi police station, consumed the poisonous substance last night, police said.

The case was being investigated, police said.

Two motorcycle-borne Pak infiltrators arrested in Jammu

Two Pakistani infiltrators, riding a motorcycle, today “inadvertently” crossed over Indo-Pak border and were arrested close to a forward Border Out Post (BoP) in Jammu district.

The two youth crossed the Zeroline along International Border (IB) and landed up close to three-tier border fencing in Tubewell-4 BoP in Karotana Khurd forward belt in R S Pura this morning, BSF officials said.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh today said the RSS and its affliate organisations were continuing to support yoga guru Ramdev and Anna Hazare and would back them even during elections.

“Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare had and will continue to have the support of the Sangh Parivar. Even during elections these people have been supportive of them (Sangh),” Singh told reporters.

Gold chain snatched from housewife on ORR

Four highway robbers have waylaid a couple at Bonglur ORR under Vanasthalipuram police limits and relieved the housewife of her gold ornaments weighing three tolas.

According to the police, Narasimha and Sunita were returning on bike from Ravirala village under Ibrahimpatnam mandal after attending a function when the desperadoes waylaid the couple at Bonglur ORR and snatched the jewellery of the housewife. They said the culprits brutally assaulted Narasimha and threatened to kill him if he screamed for help or complained to the police and snatched 30 gram gold chain from his wife.

Bio-metrics of criminals in Cyberbad

The Cyberabad police on Saturday decided to adopt biometric system for recording fingerprints of arrested accused so that repeated offenders can be nabbed by crosschecking with clues that they gather from the scene of offence. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting with officers of Cyberabad commissionerate, Rangareddy collector V Sheshadri and the II additional district judge.

HC directs Govt to initiate action against swamy goud

The High Court has directed the State government to initiate action against TNGOs leader Swamy Goud.
The High Court heard a petition on the alleged irregularities committed by Swamy Goud in the allotment of house-sites to Telangana NGOs. The court has directed the government to initiate inquiry against Swamy Goud within one month. The court also told the petitioners that they could get back to it, if the government failed to initiate action within a month.

City police on alert over two communal incidents in Ramzan

Two minor incidents allegedly of communal nature, one in Kacheguda and another in Sri Ram Nagar Colony, Banjara Hills, over the past week have put the city police on alert.

According to sources, senior police officers in the east, west and south zones have asked their Rakshak and Blue Colt patrolling teams to intensify vigil in their demarcated areas. They were especially asked to keep an eye on public gatherings and ensure that people returning home after Iftar and Taraweeh (special Ramzan prayers) from mosques are provided adequate security.
