Prabhakaran was tortured before being killed, says report

New Delhi, June 10: Tamil Tigers leader Velupillai Prabhakaran was tortured by the Sri Lankan military before being killed, a leading human rights body said in a report released Wednesday.

The University Teachers for Human Rights (UTHR) quoted high-level military sources as saying that Prabhakaran was tortured in the presence of ‘a Tamil government politician and a general’.

The torture, it said, took place probably at the headquarters of the army’s 53 Division, which battled the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) before crushing it last month.

Daylight robbery in Hyderabad, 16 lakhs robbed from Private employee

Osman’s killers wanted revenge from father, not ransom

Hyderabad, June 10: It was revenge and not ransom for which the 12-year-old boy from the Old City, Syed Mohd Usman Quadri, was killed. The kidnappers wanted revenge against Usman’s father, a realtor and demanding ransom was just a ploy to deceive the investigators, police said.

Police solved the mystery behind Usman’s killing and nabbed three brothers who plotted the kidnap and killing. Usman’s father, Syed Abdul Khader Quadri, is a realtor and the main accused, Khaja Aneesuddin alias Anees alias Hashmi, used to get him prospective customers.

Man accuses wife of marrying two ot

Hyderabad, June 10: A man lodged a complaint against his wife, a software professional from the US, alleging that she had gotten married without divorcing him. Police said Sai Kumar, a resident of Mirzalguda in Malkajgiri, claimed that he was married to a software professional, Manasa, in 2001. Later, Manasa left for the US for higher studies. Sai Kumar also tried to go to the US but failed twice to secure a visa. “Sai Kumar is claiming that the marriage took place in 2001 while the parents of the girl are denying the same,” Malkajgiri police inspector M Madhusudhan Reddy said.

SIT chief in Ahmedabad to assess probe on Modi’s role in Gujarat riots

Ahmedabad, June 09: Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) chief R K Raghavan is in town to assess the progress made in the probe on the
role of chief minister Narendra Modi and 62 others in post-Godhra riots, officials sources said on Tuesday.

The SC had last month ordered SIT to probe within three months a complaint that Modi, his cabinet colleagues, police officials and senior bureaucrats aided and abetted post-Godhra riots of 2002.

IAF plane with 12 people goes missing

Shillong, June 09: A transport plane of Indian Air Force carrying six IAF personnel went missing on Tuesday over the mountains of Arunachal Pradesh and is feared to have crashed, an IAF spokesman said here.

The AN-32 plane had flown from Dibrugarh in Assam to Mechuka in Arunachal from where it took off again with the civilians for Jorhat at around 2 pm, after which the aircraft went missing, said IAF spokesman Wing Commander P Sahu.

He said the plane was feared to have crashed. The six civilians were being ferried as part of the IAF plane’s regular sortie.

Senior Maoist leader surrenders

Hyderabad, June 09: Vexed with the Maoists philosophy and unhappy with the leadership, a senior leader of the CPI (Maoist) gave himself up to the police in Vizianagaram district today.

Kondagorri Kurma Rao alias Kurranna was a member of the Maoist Nagavali area committee and was allegedly involved in several offences, including blasting of Gummada railway station, a mandal development office, and attack on Udayagiri police station.

Vizianagaram district Superintendent of Police Y Gangadhar said the latter was vexed with the Maoist philosophy and wanted to lead a normal life.

Injured Telugu Journalist dies in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, June 09: The injured journalist belonging to a Telugu Daily today died in Hyderabad while under going treatment. Rajsekhar who was injured during the attack on Sakshi Telugu Daily office at Tadipatri Anantapur was admitted into Apollo DRDO Hospital at Kanchanbagh. But today night he sucummbed to his injuries.

It may be remembered that followers of a former minister attacked the telugu daily office at Tadipatri and the police have already arrested three accused persons in this regard.

10 year old Kidnapped boy murdered

Hyderabad, June 08: In a gruesome incident a 10 year old boy who was kidnapped 20 days ago was murdered in city outskirts by his father’s business partner. Syed Osman Quadri who is the son of Syed Waheed Pasha Quadri was kidnapped on May 20 from Qazipura area and a case was registered in the Shahalibanda Police station.
